Last Sunday Katha from Kathastrophal posted a new project „DIY your closet“ she organises with Mein Feenstaub. The idea is to show selfmade, crafted or upcycled clothing or accessories. I wanted to sew my own clothes for a very long time. But with my work as a landscape architect and a mandate in council plus blogging as Miss Kittenheel there is not enough time to take a class. But I like hats and I found out I quite enjoy making fascinators. Making a fascinator doesn’t take ages and handstitching is fine. This pretty little thing is an addition to my winter outfits.
Letzten Sonntag hat Katha von Kathastrophal mit Mein Feenstaub ein neues Projekt „DIY your closet“ vorgestellt. Dabei geht es darum sebstgenähtes, -gemachtes oder upgecycletes. Seit einigen Jahren würde ich gerne einen Nähkurs machen, aber zwischen der Landschaftsarchitektur, also meinem Beruf, meinem Mandat im Stadtrat und der Kommunalpolitik plus bloggen für Miss Kittenheel bleibt einfach nicht genug Zeit für einen Nähkurs. Aber ich mag Hüte und es macht mir Spass meine eigenen Fascinators zu machen. Ein Hütchen zu machen dauert nicht lange und lässt sich einfach von Hand nähen. Dieses hier ist eine gute Ergänzung für meine Winteroutfits. 
You don’t need lots of things to make a fascinator: scissors, a needle, matching thread, needle threader (at least I do), pins and depending on the materials a thimble.
Man braucht nicht viel um einen Fascinator zu machen: Schere(n), eine Nadel, passender Faden, eine Einfädelhilfe (also ich brauche den zumindest), Stecknadeln und je nach Material auch ein Fingerhut.
I prefer to use a sinamay to a felt one – it is easier to get the needle through.
Ich bevorzuge eine Basis aus Sinamay gegenüber einer aus Filz – es ist auch einfacher da die Nähnadel durchzubekommen.
This fascinator’s material is from a reclaimed mohair cap from the 1950s or 1960s which I cut in pices. You mount it with lining and pin it on a base and handstitch it. The little bow is a hair bop from H&M and the blackberries are from a vintage millinery supply via eBay.
Das Material dieses Fascinators ist eine alte Mohair-Kappe aus den 1950/1960gern. Ich habe daraus einen Kreis ausgeschnitten und das mit dem Volumenvlies auf der Sinamay-Basis mit Stecknadeln aufgezogen und habe es handvernäht. Die kleine Schleife ist eine Haarklammer von H&M und die Brombeeren sind Vintage-Hutbedarf, die ich über eBay bezogen habe.
Call me lazy but I acutally use safety pins to attach the headband. It also has the advantage that you can readjust them if you want to weat it slightly different.
Vielleicht bin ich faul – aber ich benutze immer nur Sicherheitsnadeln um das Haarband zu befestigen. So kann man auch im Nachhinein noch die Passform etwas anpassen.
No outfit shown with this one – you’ll see that in less than two weeks. It’ll be one of the ones I’ll wear in Berlin for the Curvy and the Fashion Week.
