Maritime Fun: Crabs Ahoi – ü30 Blogparade

It is the last sunday of the month and once more I join the ü30 Bloggers for a maritime challenge. Now in July I celebrated Maritime Fun on my blog but I left this look for latre summer. Usually those looks involve blue and white – possibly with a dash of red.

Red, pink and white without blue is a bit outside the box for maritime themes. The crab skirt was on this blog before – even with the same shoes. I had planned a different pair to go with the look but I hurt my pinky toe and I couldn’t even stand in those red heels anymore.

The confetti bracelet and the woven raffia hand bag with the lucite are 1950s originals. The red pearl brooch and the red polka dot cat eye sunglasses are newish.

A very cute souvenir from the north sea – a baby seal. The year before godchild no3 got a big seal from the amazing aquarium in Brest Océanopolis, the largest one in France – and seriousls worth a day out if you are in the area and a detour, if you are not.

Sea Life at the tiny and cute North Sea aquarium on Borkum.

Quite often you don’t have to travel far to enjoy some amazing sea life – locally we have a charming small zoo with an aquarium.

Tropical Delight – Urban Safari

Summer in the city is quite hot – but it can be fun to dress up. The stripey shirt was meant as a cover-up at the beach. My skin burns easily. Two years ago the French Curves made a resort queen challenge – that was a lot of fun. I realised I have never shown a safari look here.

I like the shorts – my mum (and usual photographer) doesn’t like me in shorts. Though she finds them less despicable the longer they are.

Means „Fat and so what?“
Grosse – et alors? Bedeutet „Fett und was soll’s?“

Some dots are missing in the next picture – that is a glitch.

One of the zoos in the area is really, really good and an excellent staycation option to a real life safari. Check your local zoor or safari park for a great day out. For very small kids smaller zoos can be more fun, like our local one.

Out of Afrika – or ready for some exploration of local (wild) life. Serious safari look. I’d actually go on a real safari for a longer buttoned up shirt against sun burns.

The panther is lurking in the jungle – on that vintage scarf. Matching masks fpr many outfits – but then why not?

A Panama Hat – if you want to know more about the classic read this article in German from the fabulous Claudia.

Vintage Jewelry – a plastic 1950s souvenir brooch with dangling Elefants from the zoo in Göttingen, an 80s panther with a touch of Cartier and a snake clamper bracelet that could be from anytime from the 80s to the last couple of years.

Cheerful Face Mask – this is usually my dads. But it went so well with the safari look.

Tropical Delight – JungleQueen

Short and sweet, as my laptop seems to have some trouble. I really wanted to shoot this outfit at the lovely local botanical garden. But it was way too hot for that.

The lovely Essbdee customized a simple pair of espadrille wedges with zigzag trim. I loved them when she showed her diy project on Facebook. When she sold them I was quite happy that we have the same shoe size.

It was a beautiful dress but holder necks are literally a pain in the neck in my cup size. That is why my trusty tailor turned it into a skirt.

The comic style pattern is amazing and fun. Very much like Wonder Woman of the jungle. These days for the urban jungle masks are required at the watering holes, ehhh supermarkets and shops. So if you got to wear them make them a part of your outfit.

The vintage earrings remind me of a pair I had in the 1980s and have been on the blog before.

The pineapple bag is new, bought 2nd hand. I need a longer chain though to wear it cross body style.

Here are some pictures I took at Kew Gardens. Such an amazing place with the Victorian greenhouses.  You can see more of my pictures here. Botanical gardens are another great staycation idea. There is a good chance you also have one closer than you think.

French Touch – Curves for Paris

One of the things I really miss right now is going places. Visiting cities. Enjoying the hustle and bustle. I have been off sick for a very long time and it isn’t fun. Though social distancing gets easier and easier. I managed to get a respiratory disease in April – not covid – and though I had RSV before I had complications.

For my loyal readers – you have seen this dress before. Although in another colour. In 2016 during a trip to the Alsace I have shown it in navy blue.

Somehow in our mind we still associate the beret with France – clichées are hard to kill. To be fair I haven’t seen a lot French people wearing it.

Before a long overdue trip to my hair dresser.

Kurz vor dem lange überfälligem Friseurbesuch.

Last time I went to Paris was in September 2017. I went to see the fantastic Dior exhibition.

Of the things I love the bistrots and cafes in Paris and France. Sitting outside and watching the people in the streets. So when you are grounded like me you might still have the chance to visit one in that style where you live. I got the Cafe Zentral around the corner – it comes pretty close to that.

I have quite a thing for souvenir scarves – you might have noticed that in the past. Classically most of them are from the 1950s or 60s. From the style this looks like a 50s scarf.

I do love the naff little Eiffeltower souvenirs – the key ring isn’t as old as it looks. The brooch is vintage – probably also from the 50s or 60s.

The hydrangea hairpiece is for first time on the blog. Sadly it doesn’t get a lot of mileage.

The iris or rainbow rhinestones jewelry was a present from myself for my birthday in May. The earrings are a mix of vintage deadstock rhinestones and new bases. The necklace, bracelet and brooch are proper vintage.

Home Stories – Garden Kitsch

Everyone seems to be in vacation mode – but for many that excludes this year travel. Staycation is the bussword. Explaring things close to home, growing new things in your garden, balcony or alotment. Or make a tour of a park.

This playsuit works well for the beach, garden or simply your home when you just feel like melting. Despite not being necessarily being flattering, they are fun to wear when it is boiling hot and a much better look than wearing a t-shirt and panties.

Fun true vintage accessories round up the look: the dainty 60s floral porcelain bracelet, the 80s clamper and the 1950s souvenir brooch. You can actually see postcard pictures from the lake Eder in the binoculars. If that name rings a bell – it was on of the places of the famous bouncing bomb raids in 1943, meant to cut off transportation and watersupply for the weapon industry in the ruhr area. The pics however are idyllic post-war ones from 3rd largest reservoir in Germany and its (repaired) dam.

Oldschool Flower Stickers – the generic German household brand for washing up or dishwashing detergent had flowers like these on their bottles from 1972-1984. So when you grew up in the 70s to 80s these cheerful stixkers were on kitchen tiles, cabinets, windows and other things.

Retro-styled wax cloths to match – together with or ontheir own if you like the pattern but it is a bit too loud to wear it for you.

I just have a tiny balcony – but I like pretty flowers there. I exchange the ones on my table – in plain view from my sofa few times through the year.

Dahlias have a very vintagey feeling – they were seriously polpular in the 1950s and 60s. No flower show without a dahlia garden. There is a gorgeous one in a former garden show ground in Essen. But you can find them in many other places. They are at their prime in August and even September and come in may forms – pompom, cactus filled or simple flowers. Colours classically from white to almost black, red, yellow, orange, pink.

Plant porn in parks is not your thing? And you don’t have a garden or akotment? But you still enjoy a peek? Some areas still have amazing front gardens too oogle in passing. Some (bike) routes here go through garden „colonies“. Open garden days usually a good option but they are unfortunately a bit tricky during the pandemic.

Garden Gnomes – once a classic now a dwindling species. You can make it a game to count them with kids.

Another relic from the poast – the chewing gum machine. It can be fun to treasure hunt for things like that.

Even at the beach – keep your distance and stay safe!
