Ü30: Spring – New Life Sprouts

Time to join the ladies from the ü30 blogger network for this month’s theme „Sping – New Life Sprouts“. So here comes springtime on my head and out there!.

Es ist Zeit sich den Ladies der ü30 Bloggerinnen (und Friends) anzuschliessen – Thema des Monats ist „Frühling – New Life Sprouts“. Also macht Euch bereit für den Lenz – auf meinem Kopf und da draussen.

This is an original 1950s floral half hat.
Das hier ist ein Blumen-Hütchen (half hat) aus den 1950ger Jahren.

And this was its‘ last owner – Helen Delich Bentley, former republican US Congresswoman, maritime reporter + TV moderator, lobbyist and lover of hats. One of my lovely American vintage crazy ladies I met last winter in Vegas helped raise funds by selling some of Bentley’s hats for the Baltimore Museum of Industry (abbreviated BMI – yep, most of us associate that with the Body Mass Index – but that’s acronmys for you). Helen Delich Bentley was a remarkable woman AND had an amazing collection of hats, especially (floral) ones of the 1960s.

Das hier war seine letzte Besitzerin. Helen Delich Bentley, eine US-amerikanische Kongressabgeordnete, TV-Moderatorin, Lobbyistin und Hutliebhaberin. Eine der grossartigen Amerikanerinnen, die ich letzten Winter in Las Vegas getroffen habe, hat geholfen mit dem Verkauf von einigen von Bentleys Hüten Spenden für das Baltimore Museum of Industry (kurz BMI – und ja, den meisten von uns fällt bei der Abkürzung eher Body Mass Index ein) zu sammeln. Helen Delich Bentley war eine bemerkenswerte Frau UND besass eine grossartige Hutsammlung, besonders (floraler) Hüte aus den 1960gern.

More vintage – this is a fun and cheap 1950s celluloid brooch in a lace pattern.

Mehr vintage – das hier ist eine hübsche, preiswerte 50ger Jahre Zelloloid-Brosche mit einem Spitzenmuster.

And a charming enamel Lisner bracelet with pink and pale blue striped rhinestones and tiny aurora boeralis ones.

Und ein entzückendes Emaille-Armband von Lisner mit rosanen und hellblau gestreiften Strasssteinen plus winzigen im Aurora Borealis Schimmer.

Singing in the Rain – hallo Frühling

Who doesn’t love a good coat? You might remember this gorgous coat in mustard yellow from two years ago. It got too large – not really a problem in winter with a nice fleece jacket underneath for warmth but less than ideal now. English only today.

Very Cinderella – this is from Miss Candyfloss new Grace Kelly collection. The Lorin in Regia, a princessy pale blue with a sumpteous pink satin lining.

Roses and Leopard – the pretty umbrella is not only true vintage but it used to my (maternal) Grandmother’s.

London calling – the cute but rather small bag is another cool one from vendula – like my cute bike shop and the much admired sushi restaurant bag. The details are always amazing.

From Dawn into the Night – some pictures from my rambles. The sloes are currently in bloom and the willow buds are ever so pretty.

Far from the Pyrenees – a young woman at the train station said I remind her of the girls from Beauxbaton – and I had to look that up – They make quite an entry in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

Back to School – die Ferien sind vorbei

I seriously love my tartans. This one is a fairly new addition and completely unaltered. You might remember the dress in duck egg blue with a Sakura pattern. The holidays are over now and autumn is approaching.

Ich liebe Schottenmuster (oder Karos). Das hier ist ein recht neuer Beitrag zu meiner Sammlung. Vielleicht kommt euch der Schnitt bekannt vor? Das Kleid habe ich auch in Eisblau mit einem Sakura-Muster. Mittlerweile sind die Ferien vorbei und der Herbst steht vor der Tür.

Yeah – it made me think a little bit about Clueless. Even if that film was never something I liked. I relly enjoed Legally Blonde though.

Yep – das Kleid hat mich etwas an Clueless erinnert. Auch wenn der Film nie wirklich meins war. Natürlich Blond hat mir allerdings gut gefallen.

Scream Queen? Now T-Rex and the other dinosaurs have left Bochum. DinoCity2 was good fun – not just for the kids.

Opferrolle? Der Tyrannosaurus Rex und die andern Dinos haben heute leider wieder Bochum verlassen. DinoCity2 hat nicht nur den Kindern Spass gemacht.

Fun Fact: those pictures were taken during my recent stay in Höxter. At the place where I studied landscape architecture and environmental planning. My Grandfather also studied in „the place with an X“. He was a civil engineer though.

Fun Fakt: die Bilder wurden in Höxter aufgenommen. Wo ich Landschaftsarchitektur und Umweltplanung studiert habe. Mein Opa väterlicherseits hat auch „an dem Ort mit X“ studiert. Der war allerdings Bauingenieur.

FrenchCurves – Chic en Léopard (pour Noël)

C’est encore le 16me du mois et c’est le temps pour le French Curves. L’imprimé léopard est quelque chose que j’aime beaucoup mais seulement pour les accessoires. 
It is once more the sixteenth of the months and it is time for the French Curves. The leopard print is something I really like, but  I just keep to accessories.

Moi, j’ai toujours l’impression que le graou n’est pas pour moi. Des vêtements léopard sont super chic pour les autres, mais c’est un peu trop pour moi. Je me ne sens pas comme Grace Kelly mais comme le cliché la madame d’un bordelle pas cher. Peut-être un jupe crayon en léopard est une bonne idée. 
I always have the impression that leopard print is not for me.  Animal printed clothing always strikes me as something for other people but on me it is a bit too much. I don’t feel like Grace Kelly in them but rather like thé cliché of the madam of a cheap brothel.

Mais c’est aussie les temps de l’Avent. En attendant noël j’aime bien de porter les pulls moche. C’est-ci est acheté dans les soldes en janvrier. Avec un chat „festive“. Maintenant j’ai trois et je pense que ça suffit. 
But it is also the time before Christmas. During Advent I love to wear kitschy Christmas sweaters. This one was bought in the January sales. With a „festive“ puss that looks suspiciously like „grumpy cat“. I currently own three Christmas sweaters and I think that is plenty.

Green Tartan for Christmas

HoHoHo – are you already in a festive mood? The Christmas season is here again. The Christmas market is open and I already had two pinaple skewers covered in white chocolate. No mulled wine yet, though.
HoHoHo – seid ihr schon in Weihnachtsstimmung? Die Adventszeit hat begonnen. Der Weihnachtsmarkt ist eröffnet und ich hatte schon zwei weisse Ananasspiesse. Allerdings noch keinen Glühwein!

Such a pretty dress – I love my tartans, I have this dress in red, too and have shown it on this blog in April with bright greens.
Ein tolles Kleid – diesmal mit einem winterlichen Auftritt. Im April gab es das hier schon mal mit frischem Grün zu sehen – ich habe das Kleid aber auch in Rot.

The fur is vintage – the cuffs are made of an old fake fur scarf. The collar is actually a 1950s blonde mink scarf pinned to my dress.
Der Pelz ist Vintage – die Manschetten sind aus einem alten Kunstfellschal gemacht und der Kragen ist eine weisse Nerz-Krawatte aus den 1950gern.



I sorted my Christmas jewellry. Half the brooches are vintage. All of the earrings are new(ish). The bracelet is my first bit of festive jewellry, bought in 2003.
Meinen Weihnachtsschmuck habe ich schon sortiert. Die Hälfte der Broschen sind alt, die Ohrringe alle „neu“. Das Armband war mein erster Weihnachtsschmuck, gekauft ca 2003.

Guess tomorrow I’ll start operation Christmas tree. So far I haven’t decided if it’ll be the black or the white Christmas tree this year.
Morgen werde ich wahrscheinlich wieder den Weihnachtsbaum hochholen. Bis jetzt weiss ich nur noch nicht ob der schwarze oder weisse Weihnachtsbaum aufgestellt wird.

Hello Sping – Pink Magnolias

Spring is a bit late this year. Fashionwise autumn is my favorite season but I can never decide if I prefer spring or autumn.
Der Frühling ist dieses Jahr etwas später dran. Modisch ist zwar der Herbst meine liebste Jahreszeit, aber ich kann mich nie entscheiden was ich lieber mag – Frühling oder Herbst.


The bright greens of the fresh foliage in spring is so mouthwatering. The glorious pinks, bright yellows, shiny whites, the many dainty flowers. Magnolias are among my favourites in a spring garden. Delicate flowers like china cups and ahhh – the fragrance.
Das frische Grün der jungen Blätter ist so saftig. Die wunderbaren Rosatöne, das fröhliche Gelb, strahlendes Weiss und die vielen zarten Blüten. Magnolien gehören zu meinen Lieblingen m Frühjahrsgarten. Blüten wie feinstes Porzellan – und ach, der feine Duft!

Last year LindyBop made this lovely Magnolia dress. It came out late in May. Too late to celebrate spring. I bought it before it hit the sales. But I struggle to resist a wiggle dress in my size – they are few.
Letzes Jahr brachte LindyBop dieses Kleid Ende Mai heraus. Zu spät um noch den Frühling zu feiern.Und ich hatte es gekauft bevor es reduziert wurde. Aber ich habe Probleme Bleistiftkleidern in meiner Grösse zu wiederstehen. Es gibt sie so selten.


When I proudly showed a picture of this dress to my cousins both of them agreed that the original black scallops were too harsh. But spring is light and airy and fresh. So I made my tailor change that.
Als ich meinen Cousinen hocherfreut ein Bild vom gerade bestellten Kleid zeigte, waren beide von der ursprünglich schwarzen Dekolletee-Einlage wenig begeistert. Zu Hart der Kontrast. Aber der Frühling ist leicht und luftig. Also musste mein Schneider das ändern.


The material is from a shirt I orered in two sizes that was in the January sales. I amwearing the smaller one underneath. Did I metion – I am quite smitten?
Das Material ist von einem Hemd, dass ich im Winterschlussverkauf in zwei Grössen bestellt hatte. Das kleinere trage ich darunter. Habe ich es schon erwähnt: ich bin hellauf begeistert?

On the Go: Sushi Kitten Bag meets Sakura Dress

My new handbag meets one of my favourite dresses – and the Anna Scholz dress has been around on this blog a few times. This time the Cheongsam-style dress is paired up with an orange/ coral boden cropped cardigan. Spring is close by – as you can see with the pale blush scarf and beret.


The cheongsam was considered in the 1930s a dress of empowerment for women, fo rmore freedom. I love the modern, stretchy material and the very pretty pattern. And it goes so well with the colours of the Vendula handbag.


Sadie from SadiesFab50Style introduced me to that label – of which she has a fine collection. I just hit it off with the sushi bag. And I looooooove sushi. And I love the details. The little fish in the bin. The marquee with the different kinds of delectable fish rolls. The happy cats.

Ich bin ein grosser Weihnachtsfan. Mir ging das Herz auf als ich vor zwei Jahren die bezaubernde Caterina von Megabambi darin sah. Ich hab mir das Kleid dann sofort (es war auch schon im Sale) gekauft.
I am a huge Christmas fan. I was utterly delighted when the gorgeous Caterina from Megabambi showed this dress two years ago. I bought it right there and then (it was also on sale). 
 

Letztes Jahr gab es dann das Kleid auf meinem Blog zu sehen. Und dieses Jahr schon wieder? Nun, Dank einer lieben Freundin hat es dieses Jahr sogar Ärmel! Sie hatte Stoff bestellt und die hatten auch den von meinem Kleid.
Last year the dress made it finally to my blog. And this year once more? Well, thanks to a dear friend the dress grew sleeves. She ordered some fabric and got me the very one from this pretty dress.


Mein tapferer Änderungsschneider hat dann den Ärmel genäht. Erst ein Dummy, dann mit dem richtigen Stoff. Toll, oder? Das hat sich definitiv gelohnt.
My brave tailor added the sleeves. He made a dummy first before he used the the original fabric. Looks amazing, doesn’t it?

Die zauberhafte Harfinistin Nadia Birkenstock „spielt“ auch dieses Jahr wieder ein Weihnachtslied auf meinem Blog.

German Curves: Glitzer, Glamour und Pailetten – White Glam

This is the final German Curves  contribution this year. And since the year is coming to an end it is getting glamorous and festive. I don’t start December with a Christmas but a party look. A swish party. White and blonde is tried and testet. Even if I am still a bit pinkish on my head.Marilyn Monroe already knew that.
Das ist der letzte German Curves  Beitrag für dieses Jahr. Und da das Jahr sich dem Ende neigt wird es wieder glamourös und festlich. Ich beginne den Dezember nicht mit einem klassischen Weihnachts- sondern mit einem Partylook. Eine schicke Party. Weiss und Blond ist eine bewährte Kombination. Auch wenn meine Haare immer noch etwas pink sind. Schon Marilyn Monroe hat sehr gerne „weiss“ (creme´oder helle Goldtöne) getragen.

German Curves: Star Style Dita von Teese

Today German Curves features a look inspired by a star. I didn’t come up with this challenge but I instantly knew who my inspiration was going to be. The one and only highly iconic Dita von Teese, queen of Burlesque.

Star Style – style das Outfit eines Stars nach ist das heutige Motto der German Curves. Ich habe mir das zwar nicht ausgedacht, ich wusste aber sofort wer mich dazu inspiriert: die Mode- und Burlesqueikone Dita von Teese.


A woman whose glamorous retro style I fell for when I saw a picture of her wedding dress. Back then when she married Marilyn Manson. She is the kind of beauty I admired most as a child: raven black hair, a clear, pale complexion with red lips. Like Snow White. Von Teese is a Snow White for grown-ups.

Eine Frau deren glamouröser Retrostil angetan hatte, als ich ihre Hochzeitsbilder sah. Damals als sie Mailyn Manson geheiratet hatte. Sie ist die Art von Schönheit, die ich als Kind am meisten gewundert hatte: rabenschwarzes Haar, ein heller, klarer Teint und rote Lippen. Wie Schneewittchen. Von Teese ist aber ein Schneewittchen für Erwachsene.

This is the original outfit. I saw it a few years back in a fashion magazine. I was struck. Instant love. The combination of green and leopard. The dress. The glasses. Herself. Pure fan girl moment. So it is a 30/40s inspired day dress. And not like mine a (recreated) 50s cocktail dress. But feel rather dowdy in 1940s dresses.
Das hier ist das Original Outfit. Ich habe es vor einigen Jahren in einem Modemagazin gesehen. Es war eine Offenbarung. Liebe auf den ersten Blick. Die Kombination von Grün und Leopard. Das Kleid. Die Sonnenbrille. Sie selber. Ein echter Fan Girl Moment. Aber es ist ein 1930ger/ 1940ger inspiriertes Tageskleid. Und nicht wie meines ein neu aufgelegtes 1950ger Cocktailkleid. Aber in Vierzigerjahre Kleidern fühle ich mich recht trutschig.

Her book Your Beauty Mark: the Ulitmate Guide to Eccentric Glamour hit a nerve. Unlike quite a few other guides I encountered it isn’t about creating mini-mes. This book encourages you to embrace your individuality. And the pictures are a feast.

Ihr Buch Beauty und Glamour: Mein Geheimnis für außergewöhnliche Schönheit hat bei mir einen Nerv getroffen. Anders als viele andere solche Bücher geht es darum nicht kleine Kopien von ihr selber zu schaffen. Dieses Buch ermutigt seine Individualität auszuleben. Und die Bilder sind ein Fest.

This is actually already the second outfit this year inspired by Dita von Teese. Back in June the German Curves‘ theme was monochrome. I chose red. The strawberries were pure Miss Kittenheel. Von Teese doesn’t do cutsey. At least not that I have seen it. Her vintage inspired pin-up style is quite clean.
Dieser Blog Beitrag ist tatsächlich schon das zweite Outfit dieses Jahr das von Dita von Teese inspiriert wurde. Im Juni war das Motto der German Curves monochrom. Rot war meine Farbe. Die Erdbeeren waren halt voll und ganz Miss Kittenheel. Denn von Teese macht nicht auf süß. Zumindest nicht das ich das schon mal gesehen hätte. Ihr vintage inspirierter Pin-Up Stil ist sehr clean. 

Besides chiffon is something I prefer for tops or scarves. I struggle a bit with dresses or skirts made of it. I had a few and usually they get or rather got remarkably little wear. The green satin however is heavy and rich. I have shown it before as a New Years outfit. And I love the jewel colour. So Joanie from MAD Men. Though this would be another fantastic star style.

Abgesehen davon ist Chiffon etwas was ich für Oberteile oder Schals bevorzuge. Ich tue mich etwas schwer mit Kleidern und Röcken die daraus gemacht sind. Ich hatte davon schon einige und Sie bekommen relativ wenig Auslauf. Der grüne Satin ist schwer und fällt wunderbar. Ich habe das Kleid schon mal zu Silvester gezeigt. Ich mag das satte Grün. Sehr Joanie von Mad Men. Das wäre auch ein großartiger weiterer Star Style.

The dress is from the US label Pin-Up Girl Clothing. I recently even bought in a pale peach. A very lingerie colour. But I need my winterly pallor to pull it off. It still needs to be shortened too.
