Ü30 Blogger + Friends: Filmreif – Ready for the Oscars

Time to join the ladies from the ü30 blogger network for this month’s theme „Filmreif – Glamorous“. I wanted to do a a spin on the blush Ava dress for a long time – some of you might remember the green one and my tribute to Dita von Teese.

Es ist Zeit sich den Ladies der ü30 Bloggerinnen (und Friends) anzuschliessen – Thema des Monats ist „Mondän / Filmreif“. Ich wollte euch schon seit ewigen Zeiten das Ava Kleid in Blush zeigen – einige von euch erinnern sich vielleicht noch an das Kleid in Grün und meine Hommage an Dita von Teese.

Das Harlequin Schmuckset und die Brosche sind aus den 1950- und 60ger Jahren und sind sehr spektakulär.

Until a few years ago I used to host Oscar night parties. With the time difference, they were always the next evening, on mondays. All spruced up. And we watched a recording. And I got to admit, one of the things I like best is the part when all the stars walk the red carpet. Some of those dresses are amazing, some are iconic and some are, ehhh interesting choices. Anyway – these parties were always good fun and I actually miss them. Maybe next year there will be another one.

Bis vor ein paar Jahren hatte ich regelmäßig zu einer Oscar Nacht eingeladen, die fanden immer am nächsten Abend, einem Montag statt. Alle schick gemacht, mit Cocktailkleid und Anzug. Aufgezeichnet. Ich gestehe, der Teil mit dem Einmarsch der Stars über den roten Teppich gefällt mir richtig gut. Manche Kleider sind einfach wunderschön, manche episch und andere leider eine ehhh interessante Wahl. Wir hatten immer ziemlich viel Spass und mir fehlt das schon. Vielleicht nächstes Jahr wieder.

Just before the pandemic kicked off Susanne from Texterella invited me to the launch of a blogger collection she contributeted to. Unfortunately it got cancelled – but this was to be my outfit.

Kurz bevor die Pandemie losging hatte mich Susanne von Texterella zum Launch einer Blogger-Kollektion eingeladen, an der sie beteiligt war. Leider wurde das wie so vieles abgesagt – aber das wäre mein Outfit gewesen.

Singing in the Rain – hallo Frühling

Who doesn’t love a good coat? You might remember this gorgous coat in mustard yellow from two years ago. It got too large – not really a problem in winter with a nice fleece jacket underneath for warmth but less than ideal now. English only today.

Very Cinderella – this is from Miss Candyfloss new Grace Kelly collection. The Lorin in Regia, a princessy pale blue with a sumpteous pink satin lining.

Roses and Leopard – the pretty umbrella is not only true vintage but it used to my (maternal) Grandmother’s.

London calling – the cute but rather small bag is another cool one from vendula – like my cute bike shop and the much admired sushi restaurant bag. The details are always amazing.

From Dawn into the Night – some pictures from my rambles. The sloes are currently in bloom and the willow buds are ever so pretty.

Far from the Pyrenees – a young woman at the train station said I remind her of the girls from Beauxbaton – and I had to look that up – They make quite an entry in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

Heimatliebe: Space Cowgirl rides Again

After a glum but mild winter, spring is finally here. And I promised you the sweater from the Rodeo collection – yeah, the one were I first got the blouse and then the dress.

Nach einem trüben, aber mildem Winter ist der Frühing endlich da. Ich hatte euch den Pullover aus der Rodeo Kollektion versprochen – passend zu der Bluse und dem Kleid.

The irony is cruel – the fun cowgirl with the UFO in the back is classic 1950s atomic design references and for me also forever linked with the cold war. But now as Russia invaded the Ukraine, a pan-European conflict with Russia suddenly is very real and not just an abstract threat. My generation, born in the 70s, experienced the end of the cold war in our teenage years. We saw perestroika and glasnost, but never NATO in full alert.

Die Ironie ist bezeichnend – das fröhliche Cowgirl mit dem UFO im Hintergrund ist klassisches 1950ger Atom-Design und auch für mich untrennbar mit dem kalten Krieg verbunden. Allerdings seit Russland die Ukraine überfallen hat, wurde ein pan-europäischer Konflikt mit Russland sehr real und keine hypothetische Bedrohung. Meine Generation, in den 1970ger geboren, hat das Ende des kalten Krieges als Teenager erlebt. Wir haben Perestroika und Glasnost erlebt, aber niemals die NATO in voller Alarmbereitschaft.

Amidst all those terrifying news it helps to get out. And since the weather is lovely right now, I took #derFahrrad for a spin and asked a friend who lives locally to tag along.

Zwischen all diesen erschütternden Nachrichten hilft es auch einmal raus zu kommen. Da das Wetter mitspielte, habe ich endlich mal wieder eine Tour mit #derFahrrad gemacht und einen Bekannten gefragt uns zu begleiten.

The main destination (at least for me) was the Bismarckturm Delecke. 22 of these towers in memory of the „iron“ Reichs-chancellor are still dotted over Northrhine-Westfalia. And my Corona „travel“ project since November 2020 – and no I am not a fan of the old man nor do I approve of blatant nationalism – that is why these towers were built. This is number 13 and the last that was built. Nine of these mostly phallic monuments are stil left to visit. The tower in the back of the post with the blouse last year is the one in Tecklenburg.

Mein eigentliches Ziel war der Bismarckturm Delecke. 22 dieser Türme, die in Erinnerung an den eisernen Kanzler gebaut wurden stehen noch in NRW verteilt. Die sind mein Corona „Reise“ Projekt seit November 2020 – ohne ein Fangirl des „Reichsgründers“ zu sein oder krassen Nationalismus gut zu finden – denn das war die Motivation die Türme zu bauen. Dieser hier ist meine Nummer 13 und der letzte der gebaut wurde. Neun der überwiegenden phallischen Monumente „muss“ ich mir noch ansehen. Der Turm im Hintergrund vom Post mit der Western-Bluse letztes Jahr war der in Tecklenburg.

You can already get a glimpse of the Möhnesee from the tower. To my readers from the UK (and the US – or any military buffs) – that is the dambusters lake. The bombing made a gap in the middle and as a result war related industries had only temporary setbacks but also about 1700 lives were lost in the floods. 1000 of which were prisoners of war and slave labourers.

Vom Turm aus ist schon der Möhnesee zu sehen. Für meine Leser aus Grossbritannien (und den USA oder Geschichtsinteressierte) – das ist eine der Talsperren, die im zweiten Weltkrieg zerstört werden sollte. Die Bormbardierung der Staumauern hatte nur temporäre Auswirkungen auf die Rüstungsindustrie, dafür starben aber über 1700 Menschen in den Fluten. 1000 davon waren Kriegsgefangene und Zwangsarbeiter.

The distorted idyll – not a result of flooding than a mix of droughts and the bark beetle. So many hills and valleys look similar. It is a heartbreaking sight. Climate change is real.

Die gestörte Idylle – kein Ergebnis von Hochwasser, sondern die Kombination von Dürre und Borkenkäfer. So viele Berge und Täler sehen so aus. Es ist ein trauriger Anblick. Der Klimawandel ist real.
