L’été et le swimming pool (ou la piscine/ plage/ lac/ fleuve) sont une combinaison extra. Quand le soleil brille dur, la chaleur danse sur l’asphalt baigner (ou même nager) est pour moi à meilleure chose pour se fraîchir. Dehors le pool je préfère de rester sur l’ombre. Summer and pools are always a good idea – even if the pool is the beach, by the lake, a river or a lido. When the sun shines mercilessly and the heat danses on the tarmac I love to go for a dip (or even swimming) to cool me down. Outside the pool I prefer to stay in the shade.
Voilà mon maillot de bain traditionnel. L’année avant j’ai trouvé une très jolie et rétro robe de bain. Super-chouette dehors l’eau. Mouillé comme un sac. Pas bien dans le courant. Et si on quitte l’eau – ce n’est pas „drip-drip“ mais une petite deluge. This is my much loved traditional bathing suit. Last year I found a very pretty and retro bathing dress. Super cute outside the water. Wet like a sack. Not good in currants either. And when I leave the water it don’t just dribble the amount of water looks more like beaching a whale.

But small children didn’t cry, teenies didn’t laugh and I even got a „hello sexy“. The top is meant to be knotted. Didn’t like that look on me and with 4 friendly safety pins it is now a fitted crop top.

It’s fashion week, baby. Berlin gets swarmed twice a year with the fringes of the fashion circus. You get them all – the models, the designers, the fashionistas. Berlin fashion week is no high flying event. More hands on. Pragmatic, like the most Germans prefer it. Es ist Fashionweek, Liebelein. Zweimal im Jahr kommt der Modezirkus nach Berlin. Und dann kommen sie – die Models, die Designer, die Fashionistas. Nicht unbedingt das ganz grosse Kino. Mehr der pragmatische Ansatz. Es ist immerhin Deutschland. Das passt besser hier hin.
There was a change for the plus size market – the Curvy is Sexy fair was canceled. The general trade show Panorama offered an alternative.I prefer it this way. Not the name HIPSTAR though. Not out of the way but a part with the main event. The size of the hall however doen’t do justice to the size of the market. Here is a very good (German) review about the HIPSTAR. Dieses Jahr gab es eine Veränderung bei den grossen Grössen – die Curvy ist Sexy wurde abgesagt. Es gab einen Plussize Bereich bei der Panorama (HIPSTAR – reden wir besser nicht über den Namen). Ich finde das besser so. Nicht einmal quer durch die Stadt, sondern mit dabei. Die Grösse der Halle steht wieder mal in keinem Vergleich zur Grösse und Kaufkraft des Marktes. Hier gibt es eine gute Zusammenfassung der HIPSTAR.

Diesmal gab es keine Modenschau – dafür „liefen“ die Puppen bei Ulla Popken. Schick!Overall plus size fashion and a lot of regular stuff isn’t very interesting for me. Each season a little less. Don’t get me wrong – I still buy regular clothing – as long as it has that vintage or classic touch. Like this spectacular Jumsuit by allsize label Mable (lower right corner). If you get it you’ll be one of less than 30 women who do. Alles in allem interessiere ich mich nur bedingt für Trends. Jede Saison auch ein bisschen weniger. Versteht mich nicht falsch – ich kaufe immer noch reguläre Kleidung. Zumindest solange sie in mein Retro-Konzept passt.Wie dieser spektakuläre, bordeauxrote Overall (unten rechts) vom Allgrössenlabel Mable. Wer den kauft wird eine von nur ca. 30 Frauen sein, die ihn ihr eigen nennen dürfen.

And so I have very mixed feelings if that fashion week thing is for me. I take part mostly at blogger meet-ups like the Fashion Blogger Cafe or the Hash Mag Blogger Lounge. Smaller shows, like Julia Starp’s – apart from the Lena Hoschek one I didn’t apply for any others. That was more due to the things I wanted to do and see. Und so habe ich auch sehr gemischte Gefühle ob dieses Konstrukt Fashionweek etwas für mich ist. Ich mache nur am Rande mit. Bloggertreffen wie das Fashion Blogger Cafe oder die Hash Mag Blogger Lounge. Kleinere Shows, wie die von Julia Starp. Abgesehen von der von Lena Hoschek Schau habe ich mich auch woanders nicht beworben/ angemeldet.

On the Fringes – Von der Seitenlinie
From the plus size brands Miss Kittenheel didn’t get any invites for workshops, breakfasts, no collection previews. Despite that designer and stylists find my looks interesting enough to sometimes even take pics with their mobiles, their PR people don’t. And yes, that is frustrating. I am among the most recognisable German plus size fashion bloggers. Aus der Plussize-Branche erhält Miss Kittenheel keine Einladungen zu Workshops, zum Presse/ Bloggerfrühstück, keine Kollektions-Vorschauen. Trotzdem machen mitunter die Stylisten und Designer Bilder von mit mit ihren Handys. Für die PR Leute bin ich aber augenscheinlich uninteressant. Und ja, das ist frustrierend. Ich gehöre bei den deutschen Plussize-Bloggerinnen zu denen mit dem höchsten Wiedererkennungswert.
So what do I do wrong? Despite the claims for more colour and diversity I don’t feel included. Please, don’t give me the crap that I haven’t been around long enough. Blogs that started after mine with fewer readers get invites. I usually post about twice a week on Sunday and late Wednesday or Thursday. I am very proud that the French Curves took me on in April and that I was able to join Beth Ditto’s trunk show in Paris. I don’t need to be invited to everything – one or two events would be fine. Was mache ich also falsch? Denn trotz der Beteuerungen nach mehr Vielfalt und Farbe bleibe ich aussen vor. Und sorry, Blogs die weniger lange als ich am Start sind, und weniger Leser haben gehören mit dazu. Ich poste meistens zweimal die Woche – Sonntags und Mittwochs abends oder Donnerstags. Ich bin hocherfreut, das die French Curves mich mitmachen lassen und das ich bei Beth Ditto’s Trunk Show in Paris mit dabei war.Ich muss nicht überall mit dabei sein – aber ein/ zwei Einladungen wären schön.
So back on the train home I don’t just have a slight hangover from last night’s party. Which was increadible and at trendy Haubentaucher. I turned heads. And that is a good feeling. Not because the fashionable and skinny were appalled. I wasn’t an accident they couldn’t look away from. I got appreciative looks. That and you guys are my reward. The reason why I spent my time blogging. Like potitics you don’t blog for free drinks. Random strangers who tell me they like the way I dress. The admiring looks. Im Zug auf dem Weg nach Hause habe ich nicht nur einen leichten Kater von der Party von gestern Abend. Die Party im Haubentaucher war toll. Leute haben sich nach mir umgedreht. Und das fühlt sich gut an. Nicht weil die dünnen und modischen entsetzt waren. Ich war kein Unfall, bei dem man nicht wegsehen konnte. Das waren anerkennende Blicke. Das und ihr seit meine Belohnung. Denn weie in der Politik macht man das nicht wegen der Häppchen. Der Grund warum ich diesen Aufwand betreibe. Völlig Fremde, die mir sagen, dass sie meinen Stil mögen.
However Fashionweek is more than fancy do’s – for me it is exploring new places – like the wonderful shop Fräulein Anders. Anyway – die Fashionweek ist mehr als schicke Events – es gibt auch immer viel in Berlin zu entdecken – wie den wunderbaren Laden von Fräulein Anders.

Dieses wunderbare Kleid ist von Stop Staring. Mit diesem Label kam ich mir ewige Zeiten wie das Kind vor dem Süssigkeitenladen vor. Mit der Nase am Fenster. Sabbernd. Aber der Laden hat zu. All diese schönen Dinge direkt vor meinen Augen. Aber unerreichbar. The gorgeous dress is from Stop Staring. For a very long time I just felt like the kid in the candy shop. Pressing my nose at the window. Drooling. But the shop is closed. All those shiny things before my eyes. But unreachable.
Dann fuhr ich im Januar zur Fashionweek nach Berlin. Bei der Panorama habe ich die Vertreter von Stop Staring vom Fruchthaus kennengelernt. Wie immer habe ich sehnsüchtig nach den Kleidern geschaut. Etwas defensiv. Bis Armin, der Eigentümer mich fragte welche Grösse ich denn trage – es gäbe da noch einige Kleider im Lager, die passen könnten. Prompt hat er den Kollegen angerufen die für mich heraus zu suchen und ich bin dann einmal quer durch das eisige, winterliche Berlin gefahren. Then I went to Berlin Fashion Week in Janurary. At the Panorama I met Stop-Staring’s German representative das Fruchthaus. As usually I pined over the dresses, a bit defensive. Until Armin, the owner asked fo rmy size and told me to get to the shop – they’d still have some of the bigger sizes in storage. He called the colleague straight away to get them out and off I went through an icy, snow coated Berlin.
Ich war dann fast zwei Stunden im Laden. So viele Pin-Up-Kleider in meiner Grösse habe ich noch nie vorher anprobieren können. Fünf oder sechs klingen für einige von Euch nach nicht sonderlich viel. Aber ich bin im dem Segment schon ziemlich am Ende der Fahnenstange. I spent two hours there. I never tried on that many pin-up dresses in my life before – five or six might not sound a big deal to someone of a regular size. But I am a larger plus size.
Ich war schwer versucht Tatyana’s Vickie zu kaufen – aber eigentlich wollte ich das nicht in Schwarz. Gekauft habe ich dieses rasante Kleid in Pflaume, das direkt aus einer der ersten Staffeln von Mad Men stammen könnte. Das gefaltete Dekolleté ist einfach ein Hingucker. Auch wenn es so ausgefüllt ist, wie bei mir. Die Stop-Staring-Kleider sind nicht preiswert. Sie sind aber ihr Geld wert und wurden in den USA gefertigt. Die Schnitte sind gut und raffiniert. Mein Mad-Syle kann sowohl im Alltag, als auch für schickere Anlässe getragen werden. I was most tempted to get the Tatyana’s Vickie. But I got this dashing Mad-Men styled dress in plum. The folded cleavage is ever so pretty. Even as much filled out as on me. The Stop-Staring dresses don’t come cheap. They are made in the US. The styles are good and clean. And my Mad Dress can be easily dressed up or down. Always handy in this country!

This is the ü30 blogparade „black and white“ entry with the retro touch. Black and white always, always reminds me of the silver screen. Vintage Vamps and pin ups. Humphrey bogart, Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire, a lanky Jimmy Steward. It’s dancers, detectives and dames. Mystery and suspense. Double entendres and frivolous fun. And I try to make it all work in a single outfit. I fail epically at the detective bit though. Das ist der Beitrag der ü30 Challenge mit dem Retro-Touch. Schwarz-weiß erinnert mich immer an alte Filme. An Stars und Sternchen. An Humphrey Bogart, Ginger Rogers und Fred Astaire, den schlaksigen Jimmy Stewart. Das sind Revuegirls, Detektive und Damen mit wesentlich mehr Problemen, als es zunächst scheint. Filme voller Doppeldeutigkeiten und harmlosem Spaß, aber auch Spannung und Verschwörungen.

In January I made a post with a red tartan dress and some traditional German clothing – the sound of music goes highland fling. Das Kostüm ist von Dolly and Dotty. Das englische Rockabilly- und Retrolabel hatte mich gefragt, ob ich noch ein weiteres Outfit von Ihnen auf meinem Blog zeigen will. Im Januar habe ich bereits mit ihnen für ein Trachtenoutfit mit Vintagetouch kooperiert – Schottenkaro trifft auf Wolljanker.
Secretary Style – the 1950s short black jacket and a sexy high waisted skirt Fräuleinwunder – 50ger Jahre-Look mit der kurzen Jacke und dem schmalen Rock
The Alice jacket has 3/4 length sleeves. The dogtooth buttons are a super cute detail. It is longer in the front than the back, the tiniest bit too short for my seriously generous chest. It fits still perfectly. Yes, it’ll get lots of mileage with my wiggle dresses an pencil skirts. Das Alice-Jäckchen hat 3/4 Ärmel. Die Knöpfe sind in Hahnentritt gehalten – ein schönes Detail. Insgesamt ist die Jacke vorne einen Hauch zu kurz für meine sehr grosse Oberweite. Es passt aber immer noch fast perfekt und wir befinden uns am Anfang einer langen Freundschaft. Besonders gut lässt sich die Jacke mit Etuikleidern und Bleistiftröcken kombinieren.
Talking about pencil skirts. Falda is one of the few items (as well the jacket) that didn’t really need to be altered. The length was perfect and for once it feels really high waisted. I had it nipped in at the hem for about an inch on each side. To make it extra wiggly. Apropos Bleistiftröcke – Falda, der Rock, ist wie die Jacke eines der wenigen Dinge die prinzipiell nicht in die Änderung gemusst hätten. Die Rock- oder Saumlänge ist für mich optimal. Die hohe Taille ist gut ausgearbeitet. Trotzdem habe ich unten an den Seiten noch knapp 2-3cm wegnehmen lassen. Um die Silhouette noch zu verstärken.
Both jacket and skirt are well made. I like the material of both. The skirt seems a bit deerer materialwise. Even the lining has a very nice feel to it. Jacke und Rock sind beide gut gemacht. Die Stoffe von beiden Teilen gefallen mir. Der Rock sieht etwas hochpreisiger aus. Auch das Futter fühlt sich gut an, das kommt auch nicht immer vor.
I admired that hat (or fascinator) for a very long time from afar on Sadie Walker in her stunning and colourful 1950s style. It is a bit larger than my usual fascinators. If you wonder if you should get it, do it. It’s worth to get on that waiting list. It packs very flat. An excellent choice for travelling and it adds instant glamour. Den Hut habe ich ganz, ganz lange aus der Ferne an Sadie Walker mit ihrem flamboyanten 1950er Jahre-Stil bewundert. Jetzt wohnt er auch bei mir. Solltet ihr Euch fragen ob der bei Euch einziehen darf – kauft ihn. Er lässt sich super flach in die einpacken. Perfekt für unterwegs auf Reisen für ein wenig Instant-Glamour.

Mit einem Sitz im Bochumer Stadtrat gehöre ich zu den vorgenannten Vorbildern. Ich werde definitiv am Ende der drei Wochen nicht die mit dem meisten Kilometern sein – die Kategorie „Best in Show“ geht leider nicht. Am Freitag habe ich für 3 Wochen freiwillig meinen Führerschein abgeben. ÖPNV ist erlaubt, aber für uns Stadtradel-STARS noch nicht mal der Beifahrersitz (auch nicht der Kofferraum ; ). Ist für mich nur bedingt schwer – denn ich habe gar kein Auto. Allerdings gibt es Termine, wo ich eines brauche weil entweder Bauherr oder Baustelle am Ar…Ende der Welt liegen. Hmmm, Daumen drücken das weiterhin nichts dringendes ansteht! Und ja, ich hoffe auf trockene drei Wochen!
#derFahrrad und ich mögen Regen nur bedingt – trotz rasanter neuer Regenbekleidung. Nummer eins bei den Neuanschaffungen war das gute alte Fahrradcape in neuer Farbgebung. Gut für mit Kleid. Mit knapp 8EUR ein äusserst preiswerter Spass! Man wird von unten aber nasser als ich das in Erinnerung hatte während sich oben am Lenker eine kleine Pfütze bildet, die beim Anhalten nicht zu unterschätzen ist. Vielleicht hätte ich farblich doch das diskretere Cape in Türkis nehmen sollen…
Miss Kittenheel im Poncho – der schnellste Fliegenpilz der Welt!
Wesentlich besser ist dieses Sahnestück in Flamingo-Pink. Gesehen letzen Sommer bei Röhnisch auf der Curvy – und hach, Liebe auf den ersten Blick. Nun denn, gut Ding will Weile haben und im April war es dann soweit – mir wurde die Elvi-Jacke von Röhnisch zur Verfügung gestellt.
Röhnisch kommt aus der Golfbekleidung. Da darf es sportlich sein, soll aber nicht aussehen wie aus dem Basislager für die Everest-Besteigung. Check! Die Jacke ist superleicht. Wind und Wasserfest. Beides sehr überzeugend. Die verstellbaren Ärmel sind toll. Farbe ist top – und mein Flamingoschal passt da ganz hervorragend zu. Das Material ist klasse, gar nicht zäh und steif. Die Jacke hat keine Kapuze. Das ist nur bedingt ein Manko, da ich mit den meisten Kapuzen sowieso nicht klar komme. Schon doof wenn man den Kopf dreht, die Kapuze aber an Ort und Stelle bleibt und man dann nur in seine eigene Kapuze schaut. Sicherer ist auf dem Rad die Sicht in den querenden Verkehr. Naja, soviel dazu – das Problem gibbet bei der Jacke nicht, sie hat ja gar keine Kapuze… Demnächst gibt es dann für Miss Kittenheel noch einen Regenhut.
Die Länge der Jacke ist auch prima – nicht zu lang, aber auch nicht so kurz das der untere Rücken vornübergebeugt auf dem Fahrrad nass wird. Alles bleibt trocken und ausnahmsweise schwitze ich mich mal in der Jacke nicht zu Tode. Das passiert mir sonst meistens bei Regenjacken. Taschen hat sie auch. Alles sitzt an der richtigen Stelle. Und wie! Das ich mal eine Regenjacke an mir als sexy bezeichne hätte ich vor einem Jahr noch stark bezweifelt.
Auf dem Rad ist die Jacke noch nicht fotografisch dokumentiert zum Einsatz gekommen – dafür aber neulich beim Wandern zwischen Wattenscheid und Gelsenkirchen.
Richtige Funktionskleidung ist in Übergrössen, bzw. jenseits der 44 für Damen noch ein vernachlässigtes Thema, auch wenn es langsam besser wird. Farblich passende Shirts gibt es auch zur Jacke – z.B. als Longsleeve. Mir fehlt in der Kollektion noch eine Radlerhose (für unters Kleid). Mit dem Fahrrad kann man den ersten Teil unserer kleinen Wanderung auch ganz vortrefflich zurücklegen! Die Himmelstreppe auf der Halde Rheinelbe ist für mich eine der schönsten Halden-Landmarken im Ruhrgebiet! Ich freue mich schon so – wie letzte Woche angekündigt findet am Samstag, den 11.Juni 2016, auf der Krefelder Rennbahn im Rahmen der Ladies Day statt. Der Ladies Day ist inspiriert von den englischen Pferderennen und somit eine großartige Gelegenheit, ein schickes Outfit in Kombination mit einem Hut oder Hütchen auszuführen. I am so excited – like I announced last week on Saturday, June 11th, 2016 isLadies Dayat the racecourse in Krefeld. Like the well known Ladies Days in the UK it is a great opportunity to dress up a little and wear a hat or fascinator.

Ich habe überlegt was mir noch zum Thema Pferderennen einfällt – und mal eine Varitation mit einem meiner Bleistiftkleider ausprobiert.
I had a go at another outfit for the horse races for me – with a pencil or wiggle dress. This would be a very nice outfit – however I picked another one.

Mit den Federn war mir das einfach zuviel – also Schnipp-Schnapp Federn ab! Der Fascinator ist von Bijou Brigitte und hat weniger als 20 Euro gekostet. There was too much going on with the feathers – so I just cut them off! The fascinator is by Bijou Brigitte and cost less than 20 Euros.
Süss – aber zum Renntag ziehe ich etwas anderes an! Cute – but I’ll wear something else on racing day!
The football season is coming to a close and though VfL Bochum will not change into the German premier league, we are on a nice 4th place. And much, much more fun to watch than last season before the new coach. It started to get a little warmer for the last games – but it wasn’t around Easter – when the pics were taken. So yes, minus this pale blue coat I wear things like this to the game (different shoes though) or stuff like this or this in Summer. I love the retro vibe of the scarf I bought this season.
Die Spielsaison nähert sich dem Ende und auch wenn derVfL Bochumnicht in die erste Bundesliga wechselt sind wir auf einem schönen vierten Platz. Und es macht seit dem Trainerwechsel letzte Saison endlich Spass ihnen beim Spiel zuzusehen. Es wird auch endlich wärmer – auch wenn die Bilder zu Ostern aufgenommen wurden und da war es noch recht frisch. So – das trage ich tatsächlich zum Spiel (also mit anderen Schuhen) und gerne auch mitdiesem Mantel. Wenn es wärmer wird dannwieder sowas hieroderauch das. Ich liebe den Retrolook meines Fan-Schals!

Last summer I quite fell in love with the blogger collection by Studio Untold. So many great things. The tweed pants instantly interested me. I knew when I saw these trousers that they were itchy – and they are. Truly. Ok, I am a proper pincess on the pea with tings like that. Anyway – a bit more lining would have been excellent. Spring is springing – finally! Easter came and went an was somewhat mixed weather wise. It was nice to be at the parents again though. My my and I shot four outfits. And I chip my bit in for Ines Modejahr (Fashion Year) 2016. I love her monthly challenges. Theme this month was spring colours. Apart from a few things and groups I am affiliated with is the Plus40Fabulous group. There is a monthly theme and though I am late I am not too late for my contribution.
So what am I proud of?
There is the obvious thing on this blog – I am proud to be Miss Kittenheel. It is fun and I hope to inspire others to live the way they want it. Give a fig on what the others say. If you want retro – wear it, no matter what your size is. Yes, ridicule can sting but the feeling like you are outside, pressing your nose to the glass while there is a ball going on inside hurts too. It can cripple your soul. Do what makes you happy, what feels right for you! It took me quite a while to cmome to terms that over the years I became first a fat teenage girl and then as a woman the fat remained. Give or take a few diets which made everything worse in the long run.

I am a landscape architect. I have worked in two countries in my profession. It fills me with silly pride that I can touch the things I imagined. On my mothers side I am the first female with academic training and on my fathers side the first female with a degree in engineering, because that is the title I achieved. My job is diverse and chellenging. Of course there are downsides and I am not excited every day about it – but I wouldn’t be real otherwise.

I was raised to be proud to be a European first, before that nationalistic bollocks. These days I am not so proud of my Europe – but I am a stubborn creature and that is not something I let go off easily. So, the third (big) thing I am proud o is being a part time politican with a mandate on my local council. Getting there was a few years hard work and I nearly missed out (as it is politics after all). You can’t have politics without meddling and scheming. You got to have the stomach for that. And persistence. And to boldly go where you know you are not welcome. Where they don’t reserve a seat for you (and saw off the legs under the chair you are sitting on). I met a lot of people who struggled with that. You have to make a lot of compromises. But at some point you also got to draw a line or you loose being yourself.

Currently, for almost a year I am an independent member in my local council. I have left the party I got elected for. I am not proud of that. Had I the chance to turn back time I would do the very same thing again though. Sometimes life isn’t pretty. I started Miss Kittenheel for that. To have something where I am my own boss and just to my bidding. A happy place.

I started my life in politics with a back then new party who sadly started to desintegreate. A lot of what was important for me was lost out of sight. I try to carry some of that with me to my new political home. Civil rights, freedom and social issues are still very important. I started in a party that claimed to be post gender but the last year and recent developments made me realise we still need feminism, maybe more than five years ago.

I won’t burn my bra though but I do burn for equal chances. For a world (and my country) that give my god children the chances I got. For a society where people marry for love and not for provision. For a world where no means no. For a society where you can be whatever you want to be, without fear or persecution (as long as you don’t want to cut back the rights of others because they effing offend you).

Ich bin stolz auch meine drei Leben – ich arbeite als Landschaftsarchitektin und es ist schön die Dinge, die man sich ausgedacht hat anfassen zu können. Ich bin stolz auf Miss Kittenheel – denn ich hoffe so kann ich mehr Menschen erreichen, dass sie so leben, wie es sich für sie richtig anfühlt. Das mit dem Vorbild. Ein schöner, glücklicher Ort. Und ich bin stolz darauf in der (Lokal-) Politik mitzumachen. Gut, dass ist nicht immer so und manchmal fällt man auch unschöne Entscheidungen (immerhin bin ich seit knapp einem Jahr parteilos), aber manches ist notwendig. Für sich selber. In der Politik haben nicht immer alle darauf gewartet das man mitmachen will. Aber das trifft auch für das ganze übrige Leben zu. Und ja, ich bin Feministin – ich meine nicht das wir bessere Menschen als Männer sind. Allerdings ist das mit der Chancengleichheit immer noch unheimlich wichtig. Und das wir das bewahren und hüten ist vielleicht heute wieder wichtiger als noch vor zwei oder drei Jahren.
