Steampunk Day – Historischer Jahrmarkt Bochum

On Saturday, February 11th, 2017 the 10. historic fair in the Jahrhunderthalle Bochum was opened with the Steampunk Day. I already had a blast last year. And this year there were once more the classic carroussel, the ferris wheel and many other rides to admire and enjoy.

This year I was in the merry company of friends and family including the godchildren and their sisters. Even the two older ones enjoyed themselves. At least after a little warm up phase.

Yayh!
I successfully mastered the Ring-the-Bell and competed against my cousin on the Crazy Loop. I do know how to use my weight. Still afterwards I was as weak as a kitten. It’ll still take a while till I am back in old form. At least the pertussis is finally and verified gone. Yayh!

Just for the record – I bought that hat in 1990. In the sales. A good match for the theme. But not that practical on the rides.

But not just the rides were quite a sight but also the Steampunk community and the many time travellers.

Left a more traditional Steampunk creation and to the right the SteamKitty bag – both by Ätherwerk.

Old rides, selling booths and phantastically dressed people – an amazing combination.

Good time travellors come prepared  – even for an emergency cup of tea.

Gloriously and thoroughly photobombed. But I can’t blame the lads. There were photoshoots at and around every corner. Didn’t really notice that last year.

Work, Politics and Family – Fein Gemacht!

When I got this dress I didn’t expect it to get the amount of mileage it already did. It is quite good for more formal occasions – meetings at work with clients, political gatherings and council sessions or my dad’s 70th birthday. Or in this case a party meeting. Next year we will have two major elections. And today we had to elect delegates and a candidate for our consituency (or electoral district). All fortunately without drama. But I still had to get up far too early for my taste. And it feels like I had as much coffee as things to vote for. And when your cup matches the tights you can use it as a prop.

This is a lined cotton dress with a hint of stretch. A 1950s inspired wiggle dress. I think it would also be quite nice on a date – though better without the wooly thermal shirt underneath the chiffon blouse. Like for the French Curves this week I wear beige opaque tights under the dark red lace ones. Doesn’t show but keeps you toasty.

The swallow brooch is true vintage – it is probably not bakelite but plastic.
Die Brosche mit der Schwalbe ist Vintage – ich vermute aus Plastik und nicht aus Bakelit. misskittenheel-vintage-plussize-pinup-lindybop-vanessa-wiggledress-lace-tights-03

The brooch has a nice size and is for once not too dinky.

The plaid is big and cuddly – perfect to curl up in on the train or elsewhere.
Perfekt um sich im Zug und anderswo darin einzukuscheln ist dieses Tuch – von der Grösse mehr eine kleine Decke.misskittenheel-vintage-plussize-pinup-lindybop-vanessa-wiggledress-lace-tights-05

And then I faffed around and lost my balance…
Und dann albert man ein wenig herum und verliert prompt die Balance…misskittenheel-vintage-plussize-pinup-lindybop-vanessa-wiggledress-lace-tights-06

…just to strike asilly pose. Fortunately I didn’t spill my coffee.

Coffee with an espresso shot – I leave the earl grey tea (hot) to the captain. All in all a good outfit from „work to play“ or at least from politics to blogging. I spend the rest of the day along Bochum Tourism’s guests from Hamburg. But more about this on a later day or glimpses here on my Facebook page.

MyStory – Tweed and Blue!

The football season is coming to a close and though VfL Bochum will not change into the German premier league, we are on a nice 4th place. And much, much more fun to watch than last season before the new coach. It started to get a little warmer for the last games – but it wasn’t around Easter – when the pics were taken. So yes, minus this pale blue coat I wear things like this to the game (different shoes though) or stuff like this  or this in Summer. I love the retro vibe of the scarf I bought this season.

don’t mention the stripes

Last summer I quite fell in love with the blogger collection by Studio Untold. So many great things. The tweed pants instantly interested me. I knew when I saw these trousers that they were itchy – and they are. Truly. Ok, I am a proper pincess on the pea with tings like that. Anyway – a bit more lining would have been excellent. They were part of Lisa Mosh’s Blogger Outfit. What do you think?

I love that scarf – it’s soooo me

Oktoberfest Craze: Dirndl No.4

Miss Kittenheel |vintage | plus size | style| Oktoberfest Dirndl No.4It is Mid October and my very own Oktoberfest was last weekend. It was Bochum’s first and for our group also our last. The tent was on the small side. A different layout than shown on the booking site. The aisles were on the whole too narrow for the staff. Professionally I deal with fire prevention and escape routes literally only on the outside, but I didn’t feel comfortable. We sat too close to over steering speakers. The music wasn’t Bavarian but party. And party they did in a way I only know in the small hours from carnival. The food was ok, but no roasts. The price for a Maß (1litre) was below 9 EUR. Still it took a while to get our second round.

Before yesterday I was a stern defender of local beerfests in Bavarian Style. The one in Xanten was always great. A tent like the ones in Munich. The music proper Bavarian, ok – so they played a few carnival songs later in the evening. The food was roasts galore, hearty, lots and good. We were out of that tent in Bochum in less than two hours. By that time already two benches with people dancing on them tipped over. However, next year we will return – to Xanten. We booked our tickets the day after.

selfie – no filters

This is dirndl No.4. My first dirndl is this one. Then I got myself a black woolly one. The third is sadly without any pics. Dirndl No.4 is like the rest vintage. They date somewhere from the 60s (No.2) to the 80s, possibly early 90s (No.1). Not a big fan of dirndl blouses, I usually wear a shirt underneath. I don’t feel comfortable in the classic dirndl blouses, too much exposed cleavage for my taste. Since tugging is never sexy I rather wear something less revealing. The red trims at dirndl No.4 are new. I also wanted to sew an apron but time prevented that. Was only able to pick up the dress two hours before from the tailor, who let out the bodice, shortened the hem and put the red trimming on in less than three days.

The necklace is vintage and a dainty little thing from the 1950s which I got a few years ago on eBay. The fascinator is hand- and self-made. Though I bought the feather pad at my local flea market in Bochum, together with a second one, both vintage – who would have thought. The tartan is also vintage, some leftovers from a former colleague. Excellent quality. The brooches’ fastening is broken, but sewn on it neither matters nor shows. Instead of an apron I wear a gathered square scarf. It comes in handy on the way home. Though the sun is still warm the evenings already get rather nippy.

Oktoberfest Craze – Dirndl No.4

Miss Kittenheel |vintage | plus size | style| Oktoberfest Dirndl No.4
