Fancy Friday: PinUp Girl Clothing Outfit – Glamour in Green

This dress hung forever and a day in my closet since my birthday in May. Somehow there never quite was the time to show it off. It would make an amazing New Years Eve outfit. That is if I went to a party. And personally if I wasn’t the only female single present, too. This beauty from PinUp-Girl-Clothing is spectacular. Check out their plus size range – you get the most glorious dresses (and other things) from sultry to sweet.

The cleavage of the fabulous Ava is impressive and a bit too revealing for my taste (though I am sure there would be no complains from the Gentlemen). That green brings out the very best in my colouring. Even my mum was gobsmacked, so was a guy who just wanted to pick up his pants from my taylor (had the hem shortened by quite a bit).

So here I am standing next to my wonderful 1930s repliqua bar cart and pretend to be the hostess with the mostess. The Jewellry is more sparkly than the detail pic lets on and the fascinator is reclaimed fur. Reclaimed fur? It was a vintage hat (and scarf set), but like so many of the era too small and in a style I find rather dowdy on me. So I kept the scarf and turned the hat into this little millinery confection. I have worn it before here.

The necklace reminds me of the 1950s kitsch film series „Sissi“ – oringinally hair ornaments like here.

Curvy Christmas: Winterwonderland Dress – ein Weihnachtsmärchen zum Anziehen

Willkommen bei Curvy Christmas Adventskalender 2015 – heute am 08.12 ist mein Türchen dran – und es wird weihnachtlich! Curvy Christmas bleibt im Pott (oder besser der Metropole Ruhr) – gestern bei Stephanie von Dress it Curvy, heute bei mir in Bochum und morgen gibt Sophia von Simpulsant den Weihnachtsengel.

Dieses wundervolle Bernie Dexter Pin-Up Kleid ist eine Weihnachtskarte zum Anziehen. Es fehlt fast nur der Glitter. Ich schmachte nach diesem Muster schon seit einigen Jahren. Ich finde es grossartig, das Bernie Dexter einen erneuten Anlauf für PlusSize Kleidung unternommen hat und ich drücke ihr die Daumen für ein gutes Gelingen! Ihr werdet dieses Kleid noch in ein paar verschiedenen Styles in den nächsten Wochen sehen können!

Es passt einfach zu mir – allerdings habe ich mir die Freiheit genommen es etwas familiengerechter zu machen. Bei mir gilt: je grösser der Busen, desto kleiner der Ausschnitt. Viel hilft nicht immer viel! Deswegen habe ich vom Schneider meines Vertrauens einen Einsatz aus feinster Plauener Spitze einnähen lassen. Ich hoffe Bernie Dexter rollt jetzt nicht mit den Augen – aber ein Kleid, dass im Schrank hängen bleibt oder an dem man nur herumzupft ist niemals sexy.

Das zauberhafte Hütchen „Sterntaler“ ist eine Kreation von Tate Millinery und konnte auch schon in der aktuellen Ausgabe im Vintage Flaneur am reizenden Vintagemädchen bewundert werden.

So, jetzt aber zum eigentlichen Türchen – heute gibt es bei mir zwei Dinge zu gewinnen: die wunderbare CD „The Glow within“ meiner Lieblingsharfinistin, Stylecrush und Sängerin Nadia Birkenstock mit dem Percussionisten Steve Hubback. Welcome at Curvy Christmas – today on Dec 8th it – und es wird weih’s my turn and it’ll be seriously Christmass! Curvy Christmas stays in the region – yesterday it was Stephanie’s from Dress it Curvy turn,today we are in Bochum and tomorrow Sophia of Simpulsant will be Santa’s little helper.

This is a dream come through. A Christmas card you can wear. I lusted for this pattern for at least three years. Saw it sighed in awe. Whistfully as the largest size was still a few sizes too small. Earlier in the year there was a heated debate on Bernie Dexter’s Facebook page. Well, her first attempt at plus sizes a few years back failed apparently epically. It was too early. I keep my fingers crossed for this time though and wish her the best of luck and success (that’s how we do it in German). And suddenly what I lusted for became available. In my size.

An hour later when I clicked on the dress to buy it it was out of stock. Panic. Ohhh nooooooooo! So close. So I wrote an email and within the hour I got a reply. So promptly. She was checking stocks and was happy to tell me there were more in 4xl available. Finally the pattern I waited for three years came within three weeks. My trusted taylor added a lace insert as the cleavage isn’t very modest on me. And since tugging is never sexy (or banning something into the wardrobe) I prefer it that way – on me. I hope Bernie Dexter will forgive me. The charming little hat is by Tate Millinery and was featured in this issue of Vintage Flaneur by the lovely Vintagemädchen.

Thanksgiving – mit der Familie feiern

Last year I already made a post how we Germans don’t really celebrate thanksgiving but I usually do with very dear friends and more friends. Though this year I won’t due to stomach trouble. Still, the outfit was already sorted out. The American thanksgiving is a bit like Heiligabend, Christmas Eve in Germany without presents or the tree. It is about gathering with the family and stuffing not only the massive turkey but also yourself. We usually celebrate it in our little circle on Saturday, as most of us got to work on Thursday and it isn’t a national holiday over here.

The dress is probably my favourite LindyBop dress and I wore it to that vintage car rally almost two months ago. I first saw it on RetroChick and had a case of serious dress envy and grumbled something about never getting stuff like that in my size to find out only they do. Without charging more. Happy days!

This is the late autumnal version. With rich burgundy and my maternal grandmother’s brooch. Currently the Ophelia dress in the same pattern (which I bought initially as this one was back then sold out in my size) is on sale.

Letztes Jahr habe ich schon einen Beitrag gepostet dass wir Deutschen nicht wirklich Thanksgiving feiern. Und doch mache ich das meistens mit lieben Freunden und Bekannten. Dieses Jahr allerdings nicht, ich habe Magenprobleme. Trotzdem, das Outfit stand schon. Das amerikanische Thanksgiving ist ein bisschen wie Heiligabend in Deutschland allerdings ohne Baum und ohne Geschenke. Es geht darum mit der Familie zu feiern und zu tafeln. Erklärtes Ziel, am Ende mindestens so gefüllt zu sein wieder Truthahn. Wir feiern normalerweise in unserem kleinen Kreis samstags. Bei uns ist halt der Donnerstag kein Feiertag.

Dieses Kleid ist wahrscheinlich mein Lieblingskleid von LindyBop. Ich hab es schon bei der Oldtimer Rallye vor knapp zwei Monaten an. Zuerst habe ich es an RetroChick gesehen und hatte ernstlichen Kleiderneid, Von wegen, so etwas gibt es ja nicht in meiner Größe um herauszufinden, ohhhhh, das gibt es ja doch. Und das ohne extra Kosten. Dies ist die SpätHerbstversion. Mit Bordeauxrot und der Brosche meiner Oma. Momentan gibt es Ophelia, im gleichen Muster mit einem anderen Schnitt, dass ich als erste Variante gekauft hatte, im Sale.

Lady in Red – a new Winter Coat. Ein roter Wintermantel

Last winter I bought a gorgeous princess coat. I planned to wear Trixie (on Sale here, also in pink) a lot but then I didn’t, as I cycled quite a bit. Yes, on the bike, even in winter. And trust me a pale blue coat and the bicycle chain is not a good idea. So I needed another one. Hell Bunny had another gorgeous coat last season, the Coleen, seen here in blue on Miss Twinkle. Wide skirted, with dramatic big lapels and a very rich dark red. Then came the curvy fair in Berlin and Studio Untold’s blogger outfits, Ela from Conquore had this beautiful red coat. At the end of August I finally ordered mine. When it arrived it was blazing hot but being a seasoned counter seasonal shopper that was nothing new. It would get cold soon enough. As we are approaching advent it got cold (and nasty). I hope you like my little video it is the first of its kind. Would you like more of them?

Letzten Winter habe ich mir einen wunderbaren Prinzessinnenmantel gekauft. Ich plante Trixie (im Sale hier, auch in Pink) sehr sehr oft zu tragen. Da ich viel Fahrradfahre hat das nicht ganz so geklappt. Denn ein hellblauer Mantel und die Fahrradkette passen nicht wirklich zusammen. Und ja, ich fahre auch im Winter Fahrrad. Also musste ein weiterer Mantel her. Hell Bunny hatte letzten Winter noch einen weiteren wunderschönen Mantel genannt Coleen, hier in Blau an Miss Twinkle. Mit weitem Rock, dramatischem Kragen und einem satten, dunklen Rot. Dann kam die große Messe in Berlin und die Bloggeroutfits von Studio Untold. Das von Ela von Conquore hatte auch einen großartigen roten Mantel. Ende August hatte ich dann aber meinen bestellt. Als er ankam war es noch viel zu heiß. Als erfahrene asaisonale Shopperin war das nichts Neues. Kalt wird es noch schnell genug. Kurz vor dem Advent wurde es dann auch kalt (und ungemütlich). Ich hoffe ihr mögt mein kleines Video, es ist das erste seiner Art. Möchtet ihr so etwas öfter sehen?

This skirt and top this combination is something I got at ASOS curve in the summer sale. Previously I have shown this on the blog when I took it along to southern France. This is the autumnal version. You can never go wrong with a beret and I just love the tweed heels. I already have an idea how to pull off a winter look in this one, too. How do you wear you summer dresses in the other seasons?

Dieses Ensemble aus Rock und Oberteil habe ich bei ASOS curve im Sommerschlussverkauf erstanden. Die Kombination hatte ich schon auf meinem Blog gezeigt als ich damit in Südfrankreich war. Dies ist die Herbstversion. Mit einem Barett kann man nichts falsch machen und ich liebe diese Absatzschuhe aus Tweed. Ich habe auch schon eine Idee für einen Winterlook. Wie tragt ihr eure Sommerkleider in den anderen Jahreszeiten?

Pump up the Volume – Maximales Volumen

This month contribution „Think Big!“ for Modejahr2015 it’s about maximum volume. As a vintage fan what could be better suited to add volume than a petticoat? That would be two petticoats! Super extra pooffiness. I really like the result. At some point I need to make a blog entry about the under-construction of my outfits. Recently you have seen this dress before worn with mustard. This dress was shortened, again, at the hem and sleeves. I also dyed it grey. Initially the dots were white. But as it was, it was a bit too busy for my taste. I really needed a swing dress for work. Vintage inspired full skirted workwear (for external meetings) is still something I struggle with. Anyway, this dress also did a splendid job at the christening of my second godchild.

The brooch is triangular shaped, made of enamel and has a very mad men vibe. The reclaimed vintage mink set adds a touch of glamour to the outfit. The scarf is unchanged. However, I turned the fur cap’s top into a fascinator. The rest still waits to be upcycled, I’d love to try to make a bandeau hat. It feels a little odd to take the scissors to a perfectly good pillbox hat, but it was too small for me. Would you do that, too?

Im Modejahr 2015 geht es im November bei „Think Big“ um maximales Volumen. Was könnte da für einen Vintagefan besser geeignet sein als ein Petticoat? Natürlich Petticoats! Ordentlich aufgerüscht. Ich mag das Ergebnis. Demnächst muss ich auch mal einen Blog Beitrag über die Utakonstruktionen meiner Outfits machen. Vor kurzem gab es dieses Kleid in Senf zu sehen für die GermanCurves. Auch dieses Kleid wurde gekürzt, an Saum und Ärmeln. Abgesehen davon habe ich es nur grau eingefärbt, also eigentlich nur die Punkte. So wie es war, war es etwas unruhig. Ich habe ein Kleid gesucht, dass ich auch zu externen Besprechungen bei der Arbeit anziehen kann. Vintageinspirierte arbeitstaugliche Kleidung, vor allem mit Ärmeln, ist gerade in meiner Größe sehr schwer zu finden. Anyway, dieses Kleid hat auch hervorragende Dienste bei der Taufe meines zweiten Patenkindes geleistet.

Die Brosche ist dreieckig, aus Emaille und hat einen tollen Mad Men Touch. Das aufgearbeitete Pelzensemble so für einen Hauch von Glamour. Der Nerzschal ist unverändert. Aus dem Deckel der Pelzkappe habe ich diesen Fascinator gemacht. Der Rest wartet noch darauf zu einem Bandeau Hut umgearbeitet zu werden. Es fühlt sich schon etwas merkwürdig an, mit der Schere an einen tadellosen Pelzhut zu gehen, aber er war viel zu klein für meinen Kopf. Würdest du das auch machen?

A Day at the Races – Trotting along

Introduction:
I planned this blogpost for a couple of days but was sick on Friday. Then came Friday night and Paris (sorry, the linked article is in German). Is it appropriate to post about a grand day out and what I wore after these attacks? Actually yes, because last nights barbarism was targeted against our lifestyle, our freedom. I will not cower. They must not win. And so I post these pictures of a carefree day. Yesterday many people in Paris like us set out to have a good time, some to see a concert, others for the footie. Unlike us, more than a hundred didn’t make it home. And many who did will be scarred for live, physically but even more emotionally.

Life is precious, so is our freedom. Without our freedom our life would not be the same. Even before our governments pass new laws it is quite often us who cut little by little our own rights away for the illusion of safety. Let us now not haste to make changes. Our freedom is what attracts people to seek shelter in Europe. Our freedom is what yesterday’s terrorists despise. It doesn’t always take grand gestures to defend it – you can do that with fashion posts or by going to the football, by not hating blindly, by treating everyone with respect and demand the same. Go out there, don’t be afraid to live, to enjoy life, use your freedom.

Diesen Blogeintrag hatte ich schon seit einigen Tagen geplant, aber am Freitag war ich leider krank. Dann kam Freitag Abend und Paris. Ist es nach solchen Angriffen angemessen über einen wunderbaren Ausflug und dem was ich dort an hatte zu posten? Ich meine schon, denn die Barbarei letzte Nacht galt dem wie wir leben und unserer Freiheit. Ich lasse mich nicht einschüchtern. Sie dürfen nicht gewinnen. Und so teile ich diese Bilder eines sorgenfreien Tages. Gestern wollten sehr sehr viele Menschen in Paris nur genauso wie wir eine gute Zeit haben, einige gehen zum Konzert, andere zum Fußball. Im Gegensatz zu uns haben es gestern mehr als hundert Menschen nicht nach Hause geschafft. Und viele von denen die es dennoch im übertragenem Sinne schafften sind nun körperlich oder aber emotional für das Leben gezeichnet.

Das Leben ist wertvoll, ebenso wie unsere Freiheit. Ohne unsere Freiheit wäre unser Leben nicht mehr das gleiche. Noch bevor unsere Regierungen neue Gesetze verabschieden sind es oft wir selber die für den Preis der vermeintlichen Sicherheit im kleinen ihre eigenen Rechte beschneiden. Wir sollten jetzt nicht übereilt Veränderungen anstreben.
Unsere Freiheit ist es die Menschen anzieht in Europa Schutz zu suchen. Unsere Freiheit ist das was die Terroristen von gestern verachten. Es bedarf nicht immer großer Gesten diese Freiheit zu verteidigen: man kann das machen indem man auch weiter über Mode bloggt, zum Fußball geht, nicht blind hasst und jeden mit Respekt behandelt und einfordert ebenso behandelt zu werden. Es ist unser Leben, Geht da raus, habt keine Angst das Leben zu leben und das Leben zu genießen, nutzt eure Freiheit!

Last Sunday I spent the day at the trot races in Gelsenkirchen. A bit of (unsuccessful) betting, burgers afterwards and a very fine and surprisingly mild day for November. Going to the races is in my mindset always a jolly good excuse to dig out your hats. But this is Germany and actually it isn’t.

Unless you give a fig and round up a few friends to join you. In spring we went to Krefeld: gallop racing, their very own ladies day (there were others wearing hats). Initially I wanted to wear my blue tartan dress which I wore here and here. But at 18C it was wayyyy to warm for it. So it had to be the red LindyBop dress I wore here and here to stick at least to tartan.

When we planned the event in May I wanted to get a vintage pheasant hat, but the one I liked best was sold and I couldn’t decide on another one. Then I would have gone for the fascinator I wore to the local octoberfest, but it was too warm.

As I decided to go for the red tartan I realised I haven’t worn my gran’s burgundy pillbox yet. But when the day came it was, although mild, a bit windy. I didn’t want to go chasing after the pillbox as it has neither a comb nor an elastic in it. So I settled for a trusty friend: my burgundy leaf fascinator, seen already here. It comes with a headband. The one I wore with the grey mouse outfit was a bit busy on me and besides it went better with Pam’s outfit. We made quite a stir and all in all four of my headpieces enjoyed a day out. Would you wear a hat to the races?

On the Go: Polka Dots and Pheasants – Pünktchen und Fasane

Got the vintage scarf a few weeks ago. It is another variation on the hunting theme. Happy pheasants and rose hips. The background is brown a warm brown. The dress is now in its fourth year. A bit of piling to the sides. Still loads of wear left. I like the wiggle shape though when I’m on the bike it is very impractical.

Das Vintage-Tuch habe ich mir vor ein paar Wochen geholt. Es variiert einmal mehr das Jagd Thema. Fröhliche Fasane und Hagebutten. Der Hintergrund ist ein warmes braun. Das Kleid trage ich nun schon im vierten Jahr. Und mit Sicherheit werde ich es noch etwas weiter tragen. Ich mag die schmale Form, nur auf dem Fahrrad ist es etwas unpraktisch.

Meine liebste Mode-Jahreszeit ist der Herbst: die Farbenpracht der Herbstbelaubung, Temperaturen im für mich angenehmen Bereich und doch kann wieder meine Liebe zu Tweed, Handschuhen und Hütchen ausgelebt werden. Und die Farben des pflanzlichen Finales: gelb, grün, braun, rost, violett, orange, oliv und alles dazwischen. Wie schon Eli von CurvyFashionelli bemerkte, es ist wieder Zeit für sämpf.

Auch wenn ich das Drama von Capes liebe (besonders das von Cecile von Theodora Flipper ist einfach bezaubernd und hier ganz anders an Katha) sind sie doch nichts für mich. Ich Kuschel mich da zwar gerne ein, aber auf dem Fahrrad sind sie doch etwas zugig. Mein Keypiece ist deswegen der Harris Tweed Blaze, den gab es schon hier und hier zu sehen. Nicht wegzudenken aus der Saison (ok, also aus fast jeder Saison) sind blickdichte Strumpfhosen. Gefühlt habe ich letztes Jahr jede senffarbene Strumpfhose in XL beim Bochumer H&M gekauft. Deswegen auch meine Überraschung und Freude als ich den Koffer mit den Wintersachen geöffnet hatte und gleich noch zwei neue Paare drin gefunden habe.

Der Paisleyschal stammt eigentlich aus der Herrenabteilung und begleitet mich schon seit ca. 1998. Seide auf der einen Seite, feine Schurwolle auf der anderen. Das Kleid ist von LindyBop, gekürzt und eingefärbt. Dazu aber die Tage mehr beim #Modejahr2015. Im November geht es da um maximales Volumen. Vielleicht könnt ihr euch schon denken in welche Richtung das bei mir geht.

My favourite season fashion wise is Autumn: the blazing colours of the dying leaves, the mild temperatures to garb myself in my beloved tweed, (leather) gloves and oh, the hats. The hues of this grand last stand of nature: yellow, green, brow, rust, purple, orange, moss and everything in between. As Eli from Curvy Fashionelli wrote in her German blog „sempf“ – it is the best season for mustard.

Though I cherish the flamboyance of a good cape (like the darling one from Cecile, also here quite differently by Katha), they are not for me. I like snuggling into them but on the bike they are rather drafty. My very own key piece is the Harris tweed blazer, already shown here and here. Autumn is again the season for opaque tights (ok, so are most other season in our climate). It still feels like I bought last winter every single pair of mustard opaque tights at my local H&M. I was pretty chuffed when I opened the suitcase with my winter clothes to find two brand new pairs in there.

The Paisley scarf is originally from some men’s department and dates back from 1998 if I am not mistaken. Silk on the patterned side and fine dark grey new wool on the other. The dress is once more one of Lindy Bop’s, shortened and dyed. But more about that in a few days here. The November challenge is about puffing it up/ maximal volume. You might have an idea what I have in mind for that one!
