Star Style – style das Outfit eines Stars nach ist das heutige Motto der German Curves. Ich habe mir das zwar nicht ausgedacht, ich wusste aber sofort wer mich dazu inspiriert: die Mode- und Burlesqueikone Dita von Teese.
Eine Frau deren glamouröser Retrostil angetan hatte, als ich ihre Hochzeitsbilder sah. Damals als sie Mailyn Manson geheiratet hatte. Sie ist die Art von Schönheit, die ich als Kind am meisten gewundert hatte: rabenschwarzes Haar, ein heller, klarer Teint und rote Lippen. Wie Schneewittchen. Von Teese ist aber ein Schneewittchen für Erwachsene.

Ihr Buch Beauty und Glamour: Mein Geheimnis für außergewöhnliche Schönheit hat bei mir einen Nerv getroffen. Anders als viele andere solche Bücher geht es darum nicht kleine Kopien von ihr selber zu schaffen. Dieses Buch ermutigt seine Individualität auszuleben. Und die Bilder sind ein Fest.
Abgesehen davon ist Chiffon etwas was ich für Oberteile oder Schals bevorzuge. Ich tue mich etwas schwer mit Kleidern und Röcken die daraus gemacht sind. Ich hatte davon schon einige und Sie bekommen relativ wenig Auslauf. Der grüne Satin ist schwer und fällt wunderbar. Ich habe das Kleid schon mal zu Silvester gezeigt. Ich mag das satte Grün. Sehr Joanie von Mad Men. Das wäre auch ein großartiger weiterer Star Style.
Er ist von amerikanischen Label Pin-Up Girl Clothing. Neulich habe ich es mir noch in einem hellen Pfirsichton gekauft. Eine echte Lingerie Farbe. Aber ich brauche meine winterliche Blässe um das tragen zu können. Und es muss noch gekürzt werden.

On the Go: Blue Flamingos
What I love about our time is that it was never easier to get exciting things from all over the world to your place. A dress from the US, shoes from China and images from all corners on Instagram.
And yet, despite beautiful clothing that became available most people dress not to impress but because it is „ohhh so practical“. Especially when not required to meet office standards it gets pretty dire off hours.
If you combine off hours with holidays especially at the coast you’ll get hordes of people that look like you could drop them off into the wilderness (or at least the next hiking path). Coastal places like Borkum – which is actually an island, boast about their habitats for seals or other wildlife. But they also seem to be natural hotspots for the fleece jacket. Not just during the day, they also dominate in the evening.
What happened to changing into something more sophisticated or at least a whiff more special in the evening for going out?
Ohhhh – and I do love flamingos. Even in blue!

En anglais il y’a un idiom pour quelqu’un nouveau, un peu naiv – justement départé du bateau – „fresh from thé boat“. Je suis pas trop naive mais c’est le premier jour de mes vacances et le shooting était quelques heures après nous sommes arrivées avec le bateau. Ok, le ferry.
In English there is this phrase „fresh from the boat“. Bit like us today – not as in being naiv and new but today is the first day of my hols and we got off the boat – ok, the ferry – a few hours before shooting.
Most of my pictures for the French Curves were shot either in my courtyard or in front of the wall to the office. But not today. Today you get my new bathing suit at the beach (on Borkum).

Team Kittenheel and Spring Cocktails
„No man is an Island.“ Even tough I am usually the only one on my pics on this blog, Miss Kittenheel couldn’t work without help. So who are the invisible people behind my blog? Who is part of that crew?
„Kein Mann ist eine Insel“ Auch wenn ich auf den Bildern auf diesem Blog fast immer alleine bin, würde Miss Kittenheel ohne Hilfe gar nicht gehen. Wer sind die unsichtbaren Helfer? Wer gehört zur Crew?
As you can see from a selection of favoured backgrounds I fortunately rely on more than one person who helps with the photos. Most pictures are either taken by my mum, my best friend Pam, three of my colleagues and my cousin. My average shooting takes 5-10 minutes. That includes outfit variations such as taking the jacket off.
Wie es die bezorzugten Hintergründe vermuten lassen, gibt es mehrere Personen die bei mir die Fotos machen. Die meisten Bilder sind entweder von meiner Ma, m Inter besten Freundin Pam, drei meiner Kollegen und meiner Cousine. Eine durchschnittliche Fotosession dauert bei mir 5-10 Minuten. Inkl. Variationen des Outfits wie ohne Jacke.
Pam was the first person I met in Bochum outside of work and hit it off right away. We both lived quite a while in the UK. During my pertussis confinement in September she was the only person I saw twice a week. We went together to the supermarket and continued my blog. That gave my life a slither of normality.

Pam war die erste Person, die ich in Bochum jenseits der Arbeit kennengelernt hatte. Und wir hatten direkt einige Gemeinsamkeiten. Wir hatten beide kurz vorher noch in Großbritannien gelebt. Während meines Keuchhustens im September war sie die einzige, die ich zweimal die Woche gesehen hatte. Sie half mir beim einkaufen und mit dem Blog. Letzteres hat für einen Hauch Normalität gesorgt.

The colleagues who help with the pics are three people. Torsten my best male friend, father of the younger godchild and her sister. He is responsible for my daily commute into the Rhineland. Laura and Franzi have the patience of Saints. We usually take those pics before we go out to Lunch. Tuesday is the day for pizza and pics. Sometimes Friday afternoon.

Es sind drei Kollegen, die mit den Bildern helfen. Torsten, mein bester Freund, Vater des jüngeren Patenkindes und ihrer Schwester. Wir kennen uns aus dem Studium. Er ist verantwortlich dafür dass ich fast jeden Tag ins Rheinland pendele. Laura und Franzi haben eine Engelsgeduld. Dienstags ist meist der Tag für Pizza und Fotos. Manchmal auch erst Freitags nachmittags.

My mum. Another one with the patience of a saint. A bit reluctant at first as a photographer but she grew splendidly into that job. One of the biggest fans of my Blog. And she doesn’t mince her words when she doesn’t like or approves an outfit. Her approach is classical – fashion has to flatter.

Meine Mutter. Noch jemand mit einer Engelsgeduld. Zuerst etwas wiederstrebend, hat sie sich hervorragend in der Rolle als (Blog-)Fotografin gemacht. Und sie ist einer der größten Fans meines Blogs. Kritik gibt es auch, wenn ihr ein Outfit nicht gefällt oder die es unvorteilhaft findet. Ihr Ansatz ist sehr klassisch, Kleidung muss vorteilhaft und typgerecht sein.

My cousin Nadia. Not only a skilled singer and harpist but also a good and enthusiastic photographer. The one who gives the clearest directions. She and her sister are the ones responsible that I have a blog. It is a shame that we don’t see each other more often.

Meine Cousine Nadia. Nadia ist nicht nur eine verdammt gute Sängerin und Harfinistin aber auch eine enthusiastische Blogfotografin. Diejenige, die die klarsten Anweisungen gibt. Sie und ihre Schwester sind schuld dass die ich meinen Blog habe. Leider sehen wir uns nicht öfter.
Wir haben keinen üblichen Bildhintergrund.
And the there are also many others who help out – fellow bloggers at events, friends and acquaintances. Also random strangers that look trustworthy (and not too fast) when I am on my own. A fair share of elderly ladies have contributed that way to my blog or my Instagram feed. That is the good thing about taking pics with the tablet. It is easy to use. Even for people who don’t have a smartphone. The display is big, bright and so is the button to take the pics.
Und dann gibt es noch viele andere die mal aushelfen – andere Bloggerinnen bei events, Freunde und Bekannte. Manchmal auch wenn ich alleine unterwegs bin irgendwelche Fremden, die vertrauenserweckend (und nicht zu schnell) aussehen. Auf die Tour haben schon diverse ältere Damen ihre ersten Erfahrungen mit einem Tablet gemacht und so ihren Beitrag zu meinem Blog oder Instagram-Feed gemacht. Es ist einfach zu bedienen. Auch für Menschen ohne Smartphone. Es gibt keine Hemmschwelle, wie bei einer Spiegelreflexkamera. Das Display ist groß, hell und der Knopf für die Bilder ist super einfach zu finden.

German Curves: One of the Boys – Dandy Style
This month the German Curves are taking a different turn. The theme is „One of the Boys“. To create a more masculin or androgyn look. For me that topic is a blast from the past. Between 16 and 18 I wasn’t just a Sherlockian but also a big fan of the dandy style.
Diesen Monat haben die German Curves ein etwas ungewöhlicheres Thema – es ist „One of the Boys“. Es geht darum ein maskulines oder androgynes Outfit zu schaffen. Für mich ist das ein Ausflug in meine Vergangenheit. Zwischen 16 und 18 war ich nicht nur ein grosser Sherlock-Holmes-Fan, sondern auch begeistert vom Dandy Look.
I used to own a velvet dinner jacket and a cutaway and wore both to school. With hats – bowlers, fedoras, top hats, paper boys caps, waist coats, cravats, ties and bow ties. I had only one skirt. A long black plaited chiffon skirt. I had to smile when they made a comeback last year.
Ich hatte ein schwarzes Samt-Jackett und einen Cutaway und habe beide auch regelmässig zur Schule getragen. Zusammen mit Hüten – Melonen, Trilbies, Zylindern, Kappen, Westen, Krawatten, Halstüchern, Fliegen, Herrenschals. Ich hatte nur einen Rock. Einen langen Faltenrock aus schwarzem Chiffon. Ich musste etwas grinsen als die letztes Jahr ein Comeback hatten.
All in all my style wasn’t very feminin back then. Despite my rather womanly shape. I woudn’t have worn a flouncy scarf with that, but a neat vintage men’s scarf. And I felt big. Quite big. Though I was only a size EU 42/44 (UK 14/16 or US 12/14). But I felt massive. I wish bodypositivity would have met me much earlier in my life.
Alles in allem war damals mein Stil nicht sehr feminim. Trotz meiner sehr weiblichen Form. Ich hätte damals aber nie so ein flatterndes Tuch dazu getragen, dafür einen adretten alten Herrenschal. Obwohl ich damals nur eine Grösse 42/44 trug, kam ich mir dick vor. Richtig dick. Leider war damals Bodypositivity noch kein Ding.
I can still tie a bow tie. I had to ask a friend for the pocket square. Never really used these back in my dandy days. This is a loan from my best friend’s husband. Who really loves his bow ties. My tie is from my dad from the 70s when he really liked to wear suits to the office. Guess that might be why I quite like men in well fitting suits.
Ich kann immer noch eine Fliege binden. Ich musste einen Freund nach einem Einstecktuch fragen. Die waren irgendwie nie meins. Ausgeliehen hat mir das der Mann meiner besten Freundin. Der wiederum ein grosser Fan von fliegen ist. Meine Krawatte ist von meinem Dad aus den 1970gern. Damals hat er sehr gerne Anzüge ins Büro getragen. Wahrscheinlich ist das mit einer der Gründe warum ich Männer in gutsitzenden Anzügen mag.

And what would a proper dandy be without a pocket watch? I got this one for my 17th birthday.
Was wäre ein anständiger Dandy ohne eine Taschenuhr? Die hier habe ich zu meinem 17. Geburtstag bekommen.
This pocket watch is from my great grand father. As much as I loved it, it didn’t have a lid. For everyday use I used to have a stainless steel one from my grand father. It got broke as the chain didn’t hold and it fell on the ground when I ran to the tram.
Diese Taschenuhr ist von meinem Urgrossvater. So sehr sie mir auch gefiel – ich wollte eine mit Deckel. Für den Alltag hatte ich eine von meinem Opa aus Edelstahl. Leider ging die kaputt als ich mal zur Strassenbahn gerannt bin, sie fiel aus der Westentasche, die Kette hielt nicht und die Uhr landete auf dem Boden.
This is my uncle Albin’s pocket watch. Family lore says the lid got broken when he tossed it behind the oven when the red army came to raid their homes. After his death my aunt gave it to my dad. The two were very close.
Das hier ist die Taschenuhr meines Onkel Albin. Die Familienlegende sagt, der Deckel ging kaputt als er die Uhr hinter den Ofen geworfen hat als die Russen ihr Haus durchsuchten. Nach seinem Tod gab meine Tante meinem Vater die Uhr. Die beiden standen sich sehr nah.
I don’t have many of my old hats from these days anymore. This hat was given to my dad from his sister. It used to belong to her partner. You’ll meet it again in autumn.
Ich habe nicht mehr viele Hüte aus meiner Dandyzeit. Den Hut bekam mein Dad von seiner Schwester. Der gehörte ihrem letzen Lebensgefährten. Den Hut sehr ihr im Herbst wieder.

On the Go: Gingham Girl – Kleinkariert in Schwarz und Weiss
This outfit has been on my mind for a long time. I really like black and white gingham but somehow like dogtooth it doesn’t quite work for me. The dress ia another variation of LindyBop’s Audrey. I got quite a few of them. Florals, uni, checks, dots, etc.
Dieses Outfit wollte ich schon seit einer Weile zeigen. Ich mag das schwarz-weisse Vichykaro sehr. aber ähnlich wie Hahnentritt finden wir nicht wirklich zueinander. Dieses Kleid ist eine weitere Variante von LindyBops Audrey. Ich habe einige davon. Mit Blumenmustern oder Punkten, in Uni, etc.
This one is made of a seersucker like material. In black and white. Paired with a cream cardi I prefer to wear as a wrap and a toile scarf I got at a plus size secondhand market. The shoes and handbag pick up the pink from the scarf.
Das Kleid ist aus einer Art Seersucker. In Schwarz-Weiss. Kombiniert hier mit einer cremefarbenen Strickjacke. Getragen als Weickeljacke. Das Tuch mit dem Toile de Jouy Muster habe ich letztes Jahr beim Plussize-Flohmarkt Weiberkram XL gekauft. Die Schuhe und die Handtasche greifen das Pink des Musters auf.

French Curves: Candy et DIY your Closet Bonbon Fascinator
Thème du mars pour les French Curves est Candy. Comme les bonbons. Je n’a pas beaucoup des choses en couleurs bonbon. J’ai vendue cette robe là. Mais j’ai trouvé quelquechose dans ma garderobe.
Theme of the French Curves Fashion Challenge in March is Candy. As in Sweets. I don’t have a lot in candy colours. And I sold that dress. But I found something in my wardrobe.
Les pantoufles de Frollein von Sofa s’appellent Candy. Ils sont du velours (thème du février) rouge et ont des bonbons rose scintillant. J’adore la creativité de la Frollein. Elle fait des petits chapeaux et ils sont une veritable fête.
These Mules from Frollein von Sofa are called Candy. They are made of bright red velvet (february’s theme) and got lovely sparkling pink sweets on top. Anyway I adore the creativity of the Frollein. She makes striking and adorable mini hats. They are a veritable feast.
Un autre challenge était DIY your Closet de Kathastrophal et Mein Feenstaub. J’ai fait 8 fascinateurs et un demi chapeau pour ça en 2016. Cet an le nom à changée et il y a aussi dès thèmes. Moi je suis un peut „one-trick pony“ -toujours le même rengaine avec moi.
Another challenge was the DIY your Closet by Kathastrophal and Mein Feenstaub. I made 8 fascinators and a half hat for that in 2016. This year the name of the challenge changed and there are themes now. It is also more sewing related. And I am out – am probably too fmuch of a one trick pony for that.
Mais j’aime bien mes petits chapeaux. Le dernier est inspiré par la Frollein. Et je le fait pour le challenge Candy. Pas mal pour un vieux couverture d’un coussin et un morceau de cotton rose strié.
I’ll stick to my fascinators. I just like to make these mini hats. The latest one is inspred by the Frollein for the Candy challenge. Not bad for an old pillow case and a bit of stripey pink cotton.
Comme j’ai déjà dit je n’a pas beaucoup des choses en couleurs bonbon. Le rose fort va très bien avec le rouge vivant. Rose dans tout ses variations et noir sont toujours une bonne idée. Le top peplum et la jupe crayon sont très formal et un joli contraste avec les mules.
Like I already said before I don’t own a lot of things in candy colours. The bright pink works rather well with the vibrant red. Pink (in all of its shades)and black are always a good idea. The peplum top and the pencil skirt are quite formal and a nice contrast to the playful mules.

GermanCurves: Inspired by RetroChick
Welcome back to another round of German Curves. Theme of the month is „style an outfit inspired by your favourite blogger and tell us why you picked them“. It was an obvious choice for me: Gemma from RetroChick, based in the UK. She isn’t a plussize blogger. Her style is quirky, retro and fun.
Willkommen bei einer weiteren Runde der German Curves. Thema diesen Monat ist „Ein Outfit inspiriert von deinem Lieblingsblogger und warum du sie und ihren Stil magst“. Die Wahl fiel mir leicht – das ist Gemma von RetroChick aus England. Sie ist keine Plussize-Bloggerin. Ihr Stil ist eigenwillig, retro und macht Spass.
As a blogger I read a few other blogs. Not as many and as regulary as I like. Apart from work and politics,turned producing my own content and social media stuff out a bit more time consuming than I anticipated when I started my blog. But there are some I like to read because they are good reads, others because I like them and a few because they inspire me. Gemma fits all of that.
Als Bloggerin lese ich einige andere Blogs. Nicht so viele und so regelmässig wie ich das gerne würde. Neben meiner Arbeit und der Politik, nimmt das Erstellen eigener Inhalte und Social Media Pflege mehr Zeit in Anspruch als erwartet als ich mit dem Bloggen anfing. Aber es gibt natürlich einige denen ich folge weil sie einfacht gut zu lesen sind, andere weil ich sie mag und einige wenige weil sie mich inspirieren. Gemma schafft es in alle drei dieser Kategorien.
When I did my research to check if there still is a niche for my style I came across her. We do like quite the same things. And I admit she is responsible for more than a few things I own. Like this LindyBop dress – when I saw it on her I so wanted that dress. That started an obsession with the brand. LindyBop soon afterwards became the number one in my wardrobe. And no, they don’t sponsor me!
Als ich recherchierte ob ich überhaupt das Bloggen anfangen sollte, ob es noch eine Nische für mich git habe ich ihren Blog entdeckt. Wir mögen schon sehr, sehr ähnliche Dinge. Und sie ist für mehr als nur ein paar Sachen in meinem Schrank verantwortlich. Wie dieses Kleid von LindyBop – als ich das an ihr sah wollte ich das auch. Das war der Beginn einer Leidenschaft für dieses Label, das mittlerweile meine Garderobe dominiert. Und nein, die sponsorn mich nicht!
Gemma from RetroChick likes stripes, novelty prints, cocktails (even more when they are on her clothing as well), berets, roller derby and a vintage style that isn’t authentic but something you can wear outside a museum. I appreciate her wit and humor when she writes about the vintage lifestyle or how to spot a blogger.
Gemma von RetroChick mag Streifen, NoveltyPrints (immer wieder ist die Übersetzung schwer – grafische Muster – ob Katzen oder Landschaften), Cocktails (auch oder gerade wenn sie sich auf ihrer Kleidung wiederfinden), Baskenmützen, Roller Derby und einen Vintage-Stil der nicht authentisch, aber dafür ausserhalb eines Museums tragbar ist. The hat, marabou bag and the kittenheels are something you won’t see on her blog. That is the „inspired by“ bit. Gemma doesn’t show a lot of handbags. And though I got quite a selection mine with the most mileage is a crossover mini messenger bag. Because it is damn practical. On the bike and even for semi-formal receptions. You got both hands free – one to shake hands and the other one for a drink (or a plate, or a drink and a plate a bit later).
Der Hut, die Maraboufeder-Tasche und die Kittenheels findet man so nicht auf ihrem Blog. Das ist der „inspiriert von“-Teil. Gemma zeigt auf ihrem Blog wenig Handtaschen. Auch wenn meine eigene Sammlung recht umfangreich ist, ist die Tasche mit dem meisten Freigang eine kleine Umschlagtasche, die man quer über dem Körper tragen kann. Das ist verdammt praktisch. Auf dem Fahrrad oder bei nicht allzu festlichen Empfängen. So bleiben die Hände frei – eine zum Hände schütteln und die andere für ein Getränk (oder einen Teller, oder etwas später für ein Getränk und einen Teller).
I hope one day I meet Gemma in person – she sounds fun. Maybe next year I’ll find the time to drop by Norwich Cocktail Week for a few drinks. Not surprisingly I got a dress for that, too.
Ich hoffe irgendwann treffe ich Gemma auch mal persönlich – sie klingt nach jemand mit dem man viel Spass haben kann. Vielleicht finde ich ja nächstes Mal die Zeit bei der Cocktail-Woche in Norwich für ein paar Drinks vorbeizuschauen. Wenig überraschend habe ich auch dafür schon das passende Kleid.

Sweet Lipsticks – a summer dress for all seasons
Black is safe. Especially in construction. At least on the planners side. A solid choice for all seasons. Lipsticks are fun. And sexy. And that is the dress too. I have worn it in Berlin for the 2016 Summer fashion week. A good choice.
By the way – theme of the month is black, white and pink.

Bees, Bugs and Shades of Green
Some time ago – almost two years back I decided I need more casual clothes. This sweatshirt I got in a facebook group is one of my wardrobe updates to achieve this. But then I got lots of rather showy semi-formal gear. That can be toned down and worn under the week, too. Such a shame to let it gather dust in the closet.
Vor einiger Zeit – es war vor knapp zwei Jahren fiel mir auf, dass ich mehr legere Kleidung brauche. Dieses Sweatshirt habe ich in einer Facebook Gruppe gekauft und es gehört zu meinen Einkäufen um dieses Ziel zu erreichen. Andererseits habe ich sehr viel eher formelle Kleidung. Die kann man aber auch alltagstauglicher machen. Denn all diese schönen Sachen sind viel zu schade um im Kleiderschrank zu verstauben.
The first look is LindyBop’s taffetta skirt in a lovely shiny emerald. The artifial silk has a nice stiff quality. It doesn’t need additional padding underneath. For New Year’s Eve I have worn this the way it was meant to be worn – as a party skirt.
Der erste Look ist LindyBops Taftrock in Smaragdgrün. Die Kunstseide hat eine schöne steife Qualität. Der Rock brauch keine Zusätzliche Unterstützung für einen guten Stand. Zu Silvester hatte ich den Rock kombiniert wie er eigentlich getragen werden soll – mit einem festlichen Outfit.
The sweatshirt is embroidered with bees and bugs. I love the contrast of the fancy embellishment and the sporty jersey.
Das Sweatshirt ist mit Bienen und Käfern bestickt. Ich mag den Kontrast dieser aufwendigen Verzierungen und dem sportlichen Stoff des Oberteils.
Shiny, shiny – the golden wings in the embroidery really pop out and compliment the golden quilted skirt on this drab day. The boucle scarf picks up the vibrant emerald of the tights. Black details round up this look. The skull cap hat is vintage.
Einfach glänzend – die goldenen Flügel in der Stickerei stechen hervor und ergänzen perfekt den gesteppten goldenen Rock an diesem trüben Tag. Der Boucleschal greift das leuchtende Grün der Strumpfhose auf. Schwarze Details runden das Outfit ab. Der Hut ist ein Original aus den 1950ger Jahren. 
For the French curves pics in December the light didn’t do this skirt justice.This glum day however really highlights the quilted texture.
Bei den Aufnahmen für die French Curves im Dezember war das Licht etwas schwieriger. An diesem finsteren Tag kommt die abgesteppte Textur des Rockes hervorragend zur Geltung.
Black opaque tights probably make this outfit a bit more suited for everyday wear. The golden skirt stands out though. But like this it can get more mileage apart from cocktail dos.
Schwarze blickdichte Strumpfhosen würden dieses Outfit alltagstauglicher machen. Der goldene Rock ist eine Rampensau und fällt wirklich auf. Aber so kombiniert bekommt der Rock mehr Auslauf als nur für formelle Anlässe.
Just for the record – I do tend to wear coats and jackets in winter.
Nur mal so – ich trage natürlich draussen auch Mäntel oder Jacken.
Now this is a real no make-up look. Without any make-up. No mascara. No lipstick. Just me. I usually don’t wear make-up for work. I do dress up for work like this. When I don’t have a meeting. Initially I bought this sweatshirt for this skirt.
Das hier ist ein echter „No Make-Up“-Look. Kein Make-Up, keine Wimperntusche. Kein Lippenstift. Alles naturbelassen. Aber ich schminke mich selten für einen Tag im Büro. Zur Arbeit ziehe ich mich so der ähnlich an. Ausser bei Besprechungen. ursprünglich habe ich das Sweatshirt für diesen Rock gekauft.
