DIY your Closet – Peacock Fascinator

Es ist wieder einmal der zweite Sonntag im Monat und damit auch wieder Zeit für DIY your Closet. Der Herbst ist da – und damit auch endlich die Zeit für Outfits mit Jacken und meine Art von Lieblingsstoffen und -materialien: Tweed, Brokat, Stickereien und nennen wir es Seidenstoffe. Dieser hier ist aus Kunstfaser. Dafür mit Stretch. Suzie Wong fürs Büro.
It’s another second Sunday of the month. Time for DIY your Closet. Autum came – and it is finally time for outfits with jackets and my favourite materials, like tweed, jaquard, embroidery and let’s call it silks. This one is artificial but stretchy. Suzie Wong for the Office.

Wieder mal musste der Saum gekürzt werden. Die Reste waren nicht üppig – deswegen habe ich auch diesmal wieder wie letzten Monat beim HellBunny Fascinator den Stoff geschichtet.
Once more the hem had to be taken in. The leftover from the hem wasn’t much – so I used the layering technique I used last month for the HellBunny fascinator.

Oben hui und unten – ähhhhh… einfach. Dieses Bild ist für Anja von EverydayBoudoir und diejenigen von euch, die sich fragen wie das Haarband hält. Ich benutze Haarbänder anstelle von Krokodilklemmen oder Kämmen. Mein Haar ist zu dünn dafür.
Outside swank – inside rank (at least a dictionary gave me that translation). This pic is for Anja from EverydayBoudoir who wanted to know how it is attached. I use headbands instead of crocodile clasps or combs. My hair is too thin for those.

Kein Cheongsam – aber dafür wesentlich tragbarer. Mit dem Hemd drunter ein urbaner Look fürs Büro oder den Einkaufsbummel mit ein paar Cocktails am Ende des Tages.

On the Go – Outfits im Alltag

Ok, ich gebe zu meine Outfits für den (Büro-) Alltag sind nicht unbedingt alltäglich. Ich habe da viele Freiheiten, die ich vorher nicht hatte! Die Idee kam auf, als Elli von Curvy Fashionelli neulich ihre Outfits fürs Büro zeigte. Aber die Diskussion kommt öfters auf – ich trage diese Sachen wirklich. Nicht nur fürs Shooting. Der grosse Unterschied zwischen Blog und Realität ist ich schminke mich selten. Augenbrauen nachziehen – gerne. Aber der Rest? Muss nicht.
Ok, I admit my outfits for every day are not exactly what most people consider every day outfits. Though I do have a lot of liberties where I work! The idea came when Elli from CurvyFashionelli showed her regular looks recently. But I had these discussions bevor. I really wear the dresses I show you on a daily basis. Not just for shootings. The main difference between blog an realtiy is make-up. I do retouch my eybrows but full make-up? Not really. Only when I feel like it.

Ach, und die Hütchen sind auch mehr für Freizeit. Allerdings trage ich die auch mehr und mehr so. Wobei Baskenmützen für mich nicht zu den Hütchen gehören. Die Hütchen trage ich zum Ausgehen, shoppen, manchmal auch zur Arbeit oder wenn ich in der Politik unterwegs bin. Aber weder in der Ratssitzung noch zu Besprechungen.
Oh, an the fascinators or mini-hats are more for my spare time. Though I wear them more and more. I don’t count my berets into that. The hats I wear for a night out, a meal, going shopping, even to work or council. Though I neither wear them during council sessions or in meetings.

Ü30-Blogparade Black & White

This is the ü30 blogparade „black and white“ entry with the retro touch. Black and white always, always reminds me of the silver screen. Vintage Vamps and pin ups. Humphrey bogart, Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire, a lanky Jimmy Steward. It’s dancers, detectives and dames. Mystery and suspense. Double entendres and frivolous fun. And I try to make it all work in a single outfit. I fail epically at the detective bit though.
Das ist der Beitrag der ü30 Challenge mit dem Retro-Touch. Schwarz-weiß erinnert mich immer an alte Filme. An Stars und Sternchen. An Humphrey Bogart, Ginger Rogers und Fred Astaire, den schlaksigen Jimmy Stewart. Das sind Revuegirls, Detektive und Damen mit wesentlich mehr Problemen, als es zunächst scheint. Filme voller Doppeldeutigkeiten und harmlosem Spaß, aber auch Spannung und Verschwörungen.

The suit is from the English retro and rockabilly label Dolly and Dotty who asked me if I’d like to show another outfit on my blog. In January I made a post with a red tartan dress and some traditional German clothing – the sound of music goes highland fling.
Das Kostüm ist von Dolly and Dotty. Das englische Rockabilly- und Retrolabel hatte mich gefragt, ob ich noch ein weiteres Outfit von Ihnen auf meinem Blog zeigen will. Im Januar habe ich bereits mit ihnen für ein Trachtenoutfit mit Vintagetouch kooperiert – Schottenkaro trifft auf Wolljanker.

The Alice jacket has 3/4 length sleeves. The dogtooth buttons are a super cute detail. It is longer in the front than the back, the tiniest bit too short for my seriously generous chest. It fits still perfectly. Yes, it’ll get lots of mileage with my wiggle dresses an pencil skirts.
Das Alice-Jäckchen hat 3/4 Ärmel. Die Knöpfe sind in Hahnentritt gehalten – ein schönes Detail. Insgesamt ist die Jacke vorne einen Hauch zu kurz für meine sehr grosse Oberweite. Es passt aber immer noch fast perfekt und wir befinden uns am Anfang einer langen Freundschaft. Besonders gut lässt sich die Jacke mit Etuikleidern und Bleistiftröcken kombinieren.

Talking about pencil skirts. Falda is one of the few items (as well the jacket) that didn’t really need to be altered. The length was perfect and for once it feels really high waisted. I had it nipped in at the hem for about an inch on each side. To make it extra wiggly.
Apropos Bleistiftröcke – Falda, der Rock, ist wie die Jacke eines der wenigen Dinge die prinzipiell nicht in die Änderung gemusst hätten. Die Rock- oder Saumlänge ist für mich optimal. Die hohe Taille ist gut ausgearbeitet. Trotzdem habe ich unten an den Seiten noch knapp 2-3cm wegnehmen lassen. Um die Silhouette noch zu verstärken.

Both jacket and skirt are well made. I like the material of both. The skirt seems a bit deerer materialwise. Even the lining has a very nice feel to it.
Jacke und Rock sind beide gut gemacht. Die Stoffe von beiden Teilen gefallen mir. Der Rock sieht etwas hochpreisiger aus. Auch das Futter fühlt sich gut an, das kommt auch nicht immer vor.

I admired that hat (or fascinator) for a very long time from afar on Sadie Walker in her stunning and colourful 1950s style. It is a bit larger than my usual fascinators. If you wonder if you should get it, do it. It’s worth to get on that waiting list. It packs very flat. An excellent choice for travelling and it adds instant glamour.
Den Hut habe ich ganz, ganz lange aus der Ferne an Sadie Walker mit ihrem flamboyanten 1950er Jahre-Stil bewundert. Jetzt wohnt er auch bei mir. Solltet ihr Euch fragen ob der bei Euch einziehen darf – kauft ihn. Er lässt sich super flach in die einpacken. Perfekt für unterwegs auf Reisen für ein wenig Instant-Glamour.

Stadtradelstar goes CurvyFit

Sorry – German only today!

Stadtradel-WAS? Beim Wettbewerb STADTRADELN geht es pro teilnehmender Kommune für 3 Wochen um den Spaß am und beim Fahrradfahren, die Vorbildfunktion als Kommunalpolitiker, aber vor allem darum, möglichst viele Menschen für das Umsteigen auf das Fahrrad im Alltag zu gewinnen. Anscheinend besitzen knapp 80% in Deutschland ein Fahrrad – der Anteil der Wege mit dem Fahrrad liegt aber nur bei knapp 10%.

Mit einem Sitz im Bochumer Stadtrat gehöre ich zu den vorgenannten Vorbildern. Ich werde definitiv am Ende der drei Wochen nicht die mit dem meisten Kilometern sein – die Kategorie „Best in Show“ geht leider nicht. Am Freitag habe ich für 3 Wochen freiwillig meinen Führerschein abgeben. ÖPNV ist erlaubt, aber für uns Stadtradel-STARS noch nicht mal der Beifahrersitz (auch nicht der Kofferraum ; ). Ist für mich nur bedingt schwer – denn ich habe gar kein Auto. Allerdings gibt es Termine, wo ich eines brauche weil entweder Bauherr oder Baustelle am Ar…Ende der Welt liegen. Hmmm, Daumen drücken das weiterhin nichts dringendes ansteht! Und ja, ich hoffe auf trockene drei Wochen!

#derFahrrad und ich mögen Regen nur bedingt – trotz rasanter neuer Regenbekleidung. Nummer eins bei den Neuanschaffungen war das gute alte Fahrradcape in neuer Farbgebung. Gut für mit Kleid. Mit knapp 8EUR ein äusserst preiswerter Spass! Man wird von unten aber nasser als ich das in Erinnerung hatte während sich oben am Lenker eine kleine Pfütze bildet, die beim Anhalten nicht zu unterschätzen ist. Vielleicht hätte ich farblich doch das diskretere Cape in Türkis nehmen sollen…

Wesentlich besser ist dieses Sahnestück in Flamingo-Pink. Gesehen letzen Sommer bei Röhnisch auf der Curvy – und hach, Liebe auf den ersten Blick. Nun denn, gut Ding will Weile haben und im April war es dann soweit – mir wurde die Elvi-Jacke von Röhnisch zur Verfügung gestellt.

Röhnisch kommt aus der Golfbekleidung. Da darf es sportlich sein, soll aber nicht aussehen wie aus dem Basislager für die Everest-Besteigung. Check! Die Jacke ist superleicht. Wind und Wasserfest. Beides sehr überzeugend. Die verstellbaren Ärmel sind toll. Farbe ist top – und mein Flamingoschal passt da ganz hervorragend zu. Das Material ist klasse, gar nicht zäh und steif. Die Jacke hat keine Kapuze. Das ist nur bedingt ein Manko, da ich mit den meisten Kapuzen sowieso nicht klar komme. Schon doof wenn man den Kopf dreht, die Kapuze aber an Ort und Stelle bleibt und man dann nur in seine eigene Kapuze schaut. Sicherer ist auf dem Rad die Sicht in den querenden Verkehr. Naja, soviel dazu – das Problem gibbet bei der Jacke nicht, sie hat ja gar keine Kapuze… Demnächst gibt es dann für Miss Kittenheel noch einen Regenhut.

Die Länge der Jacke ist auch prima – nicht zu lang, aber auch nicht so kurz das der untere Rücken vornübergebeugt auf dem Fahrrad nass wird. Alles bleibt trocken und ausnahmsweise schwitze ich mich mal in der Jacke nicht zu Tode. Das passiert mir sonst meistens bei Regenjacken. Taschen hat sie auch. Alles sitzt an der richtigen Stelle. Und wie! Das ich mal eine Regenjacke an mir als sexy bezeichne hätte ich vor einem Jahr noch stark bezweifelt.

Auf dem Rad ist die Jacke noch nicht fotografisch dokumentiert zum Einsatz gekommen – dafür aber neulich beim Wandern zwischen Wattenscheid und Gelsenkirchen.

Richtige Funktionskleidung ist in Übergrössen, bzw. jenseits der 44 für Damen noch ein vernachlässigtes Thema, auch wenn es langsam besser wird. Farblich passende Shirts gibt es auch zur Jacke – z.B. als Longsleeve. Mir fehlt in der Kollektion noch eine Radlerhose (für unters Kleid). Mit dem Fahrrad kann man den ersten Teil unserer kleinen Wanderung auch ganz vortrefflich zurücklegen! Die Himmelstreppe auf der Halde Rheinelbe ist für mich eine der schönsten Halden-Landmarken im Ruhrgebiet!

Ich freue mich schon so – wie letzte Woche angekündigt findet am Samstag, den 11.Juni 2016, auf der Krefelder Rennbahn im Rahmen der Ladies Day statt. Der Ladies Day ist inspiriert von den englischen Pferderennen und somit eine großartige Gelegenheit, ein schickes Outfit in Kombination mit einem Hut oder Hütchen auszuführen.

I had a go at another outfit for the horse races for me – with a pencil or wiggle dress. This would be a very nice outfit – however I picked another one.

Ich dachte mir es ist eine grossartige Sache das mit einen Vintage-Treffen zu kombinieren. Manchmal muss man nur einfach fragen (und dann machen) – also in Kooperation mit dem Krefelder Rennclub gibt es dieses Jahr die erste Vintage Corner. Wir füllen noch den Event mit etwas Leben, aber fest steht ihr werdet auch vor Ort noch den ein oder anderen wunderschönen Hut kaufen können!
Thought it would be a great thing to combine that with a Vintage meeting. Sometimes all you got to do ist ask (and then make it happen) – so in Kooperation with the Krefelder Rennclub there will be a first Vintage Corner this year. We are still filling this with life but you’ll have the chance to buy some more beautiful hats!

Letztes Jahr war es Anfang Mai nicht nur plötzlich noch einmal richtig kalt, sonder auch noch nass. Aber für dieses Jahr haben wir besseres Wetter bestellt und es ist immerhin fast Mitte Juni!
Last year we had a cold spell in May and to top it up it was a rainy day too. But we ordered better weather this year – and its almost mid june!

Business with a Twist – Break the Rules!

Sorry. Ladies – today it’s English only.

First I am a firm believer that before you go and break some rules, you’d better know them in the first place. The last council session was long and felt long. But no more about that today. I can’t believe its already a month ago that I went to Paris for the day and that I actually bought a dress from the Beth Ditto collection. Not the one I thought I’d get but the black one.

My shoes are watching you! I love these shoes.

The rouching in the back is still quite noticable, even on the black one.

I was afraid the lipstick print wouldn’t get enough mileage and I actually needed another LBD (Little Black Dress). It is fun though and sooo me. My heart is still a little sad, that I didn’t buy it.

So far I have worn it twice to offical gatherings: the mayor’s may reception for the unions and various social organizations and the following week for the council meeting. My shoes (the dotty cat ones) got more attention than the dress. Though that doesn’t mean people didn’t talk about it, they just didn’t say anything to me. Probably not a good thing. But I feel great when I wear it. I love the pockets.

Combined with my trusty tweed jacket from Boden and a big scarf – I look like it is considered proper for a fat woman. A safe look. Even with the crazy cat heels. Until I take off the jacket. Dittos dress is rather unapologetic.

For another event I went with politics a few weeks ago, I wore another somewhat unusal dress: Anna Scholz Kimono or Sakura dress by Sheego. A wardrobe staple of mine that I have worn to an opening at the local art museum and at this winters‘ Fashion Week in Berlin. It was a lovely spring day. The dress an excellent choice. Even more so as such events are still dominated by men. Men in dark suits. I got quite a few compliments from other ladies there.

I think it is fun to break the rules. But to have fun doing so you should know where you clash and why. You should also consider your own position – what do you want. In a job interview or for an important presentation it is not very wise to completely alienate your audience. Little dabs are more appropriate in such a setting. On other occasions you can risk a bit more – and once people have accepted that, it not only becomes easier, at some point they might even expect it from you.

Heute ist es wieder soweit – eine neue Runde für die German Curves. Alle zwei Monate gibt es ein neues Thema. Wie die French Curves sammeln wir Outfits zu einem Thema, durch unseren eigenen Stil, unsere Körperform entstehen so ganz unterschiedliche Ansätze. It is time for another round of German Curves. Every other month we pick a new topic. Like the French Curves we have a borad collection of outfits due to our styles and body types. Have a look at the other contribitions – they are listed at the bottom of this page in the link up.

Best dressed zur Hochzeit, Taufe und Co – in meinem Fall zu einer Kommunion, zu der ich dann migränebedingt doch nicht hin konnte. Doof, aber selber fahren mit Seh- und Gleichgewichtsstörungen ist grob unvernünftig. Also blieb ich trotz rasantem Outfit zu hause. Gestern haben wir dann die Fotos gemacht, ohne Feier.
Best dressed for weddings, christenings and such – in my case to a holy communion. I didn’t go in the end due to nasty migraine. But driving with distorted vision and balace is rather crazy and not only endangering yourself. So I stayed at home and we had to retake the pics for this outfit.

Es passiert mir sehr, sehr selten das ich recherchiere was man zu einem Event tragen soll. Und damit meine ich nicht den Blick auf die Einladung ob es einen Dress Code gibt. Wie bei Hochzeiten ist weiss dem (weiblichen) Kommunionskind vorgehalten. Traditionell sollten erwachsene Gäste dunkel und feierlich gekleidet sein.
I don’t need to do my research very often when I get an invite to an event. And I don’t mean reading the dress code on the invite by that. Similar to weddings is white reserved for the communion girl (most boys still get a dark suit but that diesn’t mean you can opt in). Traditionally grown- up guests are expected to dress semi formal, a bit on the darker site.

Deswegen habe ich mich für mein auberginefarbenes Audrey-Kleid entschieden. Ich habe das diversen Ausführungen, Farben und Mustern, wie man unschwer in meinem virtuellen Pinterest-Kleiderschrank sehen kann. Ich mag den dekolletefreien Stil und ein Petticoat geht auch drunter. Das dunkele habe ich mir eigentlich für Besprechungen und Ratssitzungen gekauft. Es passt aber auch gut zum Anlass.
That is why I went for my Audrey dress in deep damson. I got Audrey in many varieties, colours and patterns as cou can easily check in my virtual pinterest wardrobe. I like the cleavage-free style and that you can stick a petticoat underneath. This dark one was initally bought for meetings and council sessions. It works quite nicely for this too.

Eine Kommunion ist keine Beerdigung und es ist Frühling – deswegen habe ich mich für (senf-) gelbe Kontraste entschieden. Das wäre auch ein schöner Beitrag für den März mit den Frühlingsfarben in Ines Meyroses Modejahr 2016 geworden.
A holy communion isn’t a funaeral and it is spring after all, that is why I went for (mustard-) yellow contrasts. This would have been a good contribtion for Ines Meyrose’s Fashion Year 2016 with Spring Colours in March (German only).

Anyway – meine schwarze Gobelintasche blieb zuhause, das sah zu sehr wie Omma aus aber nicht nach Vintage mit Augenzinkern. Deswegen kamen die Leo-Clutch sowie die fuchsiafarbenen Samthandschuhe zum Einsatz. Der selbstgemachte Fascinator und die passende Brosche mit Sträusschen schreien quasi Frühling – so ist das halt mit Hornveilchen, bzw. Stiefmütterchen.
Anyway – my black tapestry bag had to stay put, I looked too much like my own grandmother and not like vintage with a twist. For that bit of edgyness the leo clutch and the fuchsia coloured velvet gloves chipped in. The selfmade fascinator and the matching brooch with posy more or less scream spring – but that is the case with violas or pansies.

Crop your Own – Shortening my Denim Jacket

Today it’s about another go at DIY your closet and – tadaaaaaa – it’s not a hat, a mini-hat and neither fascinator nor headband. I customised a denim jacket. It was a bit too long for my petticoat dresses and skirts. At the GDS shoe fair in Düsseldorf I seriously admired Miss Ella’s cropped denim jacket. Which was bought that way. When I tried the H+M one on at home and realised it wasn’t short enough. So just before I set out to Paris, well before five in the morning I took out the scissors. And cut the waist(band) off. Voila – right length and we were good to go. Don’t hesitate to make things truly your own!

Loved Miss Ella’s Jacket a lot – and used it as an inspiration (you can actually buy a smaller version at H+M, gnahh)

Paris – Amour Fou
Allegedly Audrey Hepburn said „Paris is always a good idea“. Well at least for a visit it is. I have a love/ hate relationship with Paris ever since I live there for a good half year. I worked as an Au-Pair, that didn’t help. I never felt lonelier in my live in a place but I remember the other Au-Pairs and some ladies from the American Church very fondly. The latter were what can be called my age now, at least but they welcomed this atheist into their fold. However I love Paris for visits. Especially short ones. Though this one was the shortest ever.

Felt a bit like a leftover Chocolate or praline easter egg. It was windy and cold and everyone else wore winter clothes.

I went for a day to Paris was for Beth Ditto’s trunk show (or as she put it playing dress up). Here is my blog post to that remarkable and fun event. It was great to meet a few of the French bloggers like Gaelle from The Curvy and the Curly Closet.

Leaving the Hotel. Sigh – it wasn’t just exquitely expensive and wonderfully discreet but also most stylish. However I leaned a new word – Bibi is French for (French) beret.

I’m a Barbie Girl….
After checking at the Trocadero if the Eiffel tower was still there (it is by the way but there was an ugly construction fence on the terrace) I went to the Louvre. Or rather to the wonderful Barbie exhibition at the Musee des Arts Decoratif in one of the wings of the Louvre. Not exactly the exhibition I solely would have gone to Paris for but still rather fitting the cliche. More on that exhibition later, in another post.

For me a trip to Paris isn’t complete without a visit to the grand Le Train Bleu in the Gare de Lyon with their magnificent painted ceiling. Yes, a bit like in a church, but they have a bar – and their Cocktail and Tapas offer isn’t cheap but worth the price for the complete package.

Quite a contrast to the night bus home. Which I don’t care to repeat. The money spent on the train is well spent, I was a bit under the weather the next day. All about priorities – a five star day and the cheap seats back. Ach well, it was fun and I must go to Paris more often – the last time was already 8 years ago!

Au revoir Paris!
