There are not many really good excuses in Germany to get your hat out. At least unless you really enjoy to stand out. OK – so I don’t mind but sometimes it is nice not to be more or less the only one. And for that I love the Ladies Day at the racecourse in Krefeld.
Es gibt nicht viele gute Gelegenheiten in Deutschland seinen Hut auszuführen. Zumindest nicht wenn man nicht auffallen will. Gut, das macht mir wenig aus. Aber es schon mal wieder schön nicht die einzige zu sein. Auch deswegen liebe ich den Ladies Day des Krefelder Rennclubs.
Even if you don’t come with a hat you can get one – ‚Hauptsache kostbar‘ has a stand there. I quite fell in love with this leopard and feather creation.
Auch wer nicht mit Hut anreist, kann noch eine Kreation am Stand von ‚Hauptsache kostbar‚ erwerben. Dieser Hut mit Leofilz und den Fasanenfedern hat mich begeistert.
So it is not Ascot – but for Germany the ladies spruce up surprisingly nice. As I write this I am on my holidays on a small island in the North Sea where fleece jackets are predominant in their natural habitat and feel as much at home as the seals on the sandbanks. Quite a contrast!
This is Anke – a few years back she won the hat competition. This is her wedding head piece. The bow fascinator is striking.
Nunja, ascot ist es nicht – aber für deutsche Verhältnisse machen sich die Ladies sehr, sehr schick. Momentan bin ich im Urlaub auf Borkum – wo sich das Fleecejäckchen in seiner natürlichen Umgebung mindestens so heimisch wie die Robben auf den Sandbänken fühlt. Das ist ein ziemlicher Kontrast.
Abgebildet ist hier Anke, die vor einigen Jahren auch schon mal den Hutwettbewerb gewonnen hat. Dieses Jahr dabei mit ihrem Hochzeits-Kopfschmuck. Der Fascinator mit der Riesenschleife ist einfach grossartig.
Three times turns things already into a tradition and this year the weather for Ladies Day was once more excellent. Almost a bit too hot. Our first time in 2015 was quite nippy (and wet).
Ab dreimal kann man schon von einer Tradition sprechen, Dieses Jahr war das Wetter grossartig. Fast etwas zu heiss. Bei unserem ersten Besuch 2015 war es ziemlich kühl (und nass).
I had god child number two, Eva, in tow. Though truth to be told I wonder a bit about the part who was in who’s tow. Both of us digging into the atmosphere – the hats, the horses, the races and a tiny bit of betting.
Ich hatte Eva, meine Patenkind Nr.2 dabei. Allerdings bleibt die Frage offen wer wen im Schlepp hatte. Wir beide hatten aber viel Spass an der Atmosphäre – mit den Hüten, den Pferden, den Rennen und auch mit kleinen Wetten.
Going places with kids is great – and fortunately she wasn’t bored but had great fun to dress up. Usually quite the tomboy (I prefer the German wildling) she was quite the little lady on the day.
Kinder mitzunehmen kann ein grosser Spass für alle Beteiligten sein – und den hatte sie auch. Auch was das herausputzen anbelangte. Sonst eher Wildfang – für den Tag sehr ladylike. 
I gave Eva my Candy Fascinator which I made for the French Curves. She got lots of comments for her outfit and that little hat. Another friend – Birgit had her Pinscher Amy with her. Cuteness overload on from of the old London Bus – the both of them!
Eva bekam meinen BonBon-Fascinator, den ich im März für die French Curves hergestellt habe. Für den Look mit dem Hütchen gab es viele, viele Komplimente. Birgit, eine meiner Freundinnen hat Amy Pinscher mitgebracht – beide für sich sind ein Hingucker. Zusammen vor dem Londoner Bus löst das fast einen Zuckerschock aus!
This year we decided to have a picnic by the racecourse close to the finish line. Excellent choice!
Die Entscheidung ein Picknick in der Nähe der Ziellinie zu machen war hervorragend!
The annual hat competition was extremely well attended this year. The winner of the special vintage price went rightfully to the self-created „killer cherry“ on the right. Super stylish in red gingham – though I also really liked her sister’s outfit (2nd from right) – the stripey one with the boater. The special vintage price was a 50 EUR voucher for Ricarda Engelsberger’s shop ‚Mein wunderbarer Hutsalon‘.
Der grosse Hutwettbwerb war dieses Jahr besonders gut besucht. Den zusätzlichen Vintagepreis hat die „Killer Kirsche“ rechts mit einer Eigenkreation verdient gewonnen. Super stylish im roten Vichykaro – allerdings gefiel mir auch das Outfit ihrer Schwester (2te von rechts) mit der Kreissäge und dem gestreiften Kleid super gut. Der Vintagepreis war ein 50 EUR Gutschein von Ricarda Engelsbergers Atelier ‚Mein wunderbarer Hutsalon‘.
We hit the press, I found that on my desk on Monday – since I also work in Krefeld. And we were also featured in the photo gallery. The lovely Ricarda from ‚Mein wunderbarer Hutsalon‘ and her friend in a wonderful Victorian dress are on page 2.
Wir haben es gross in die Presse geschafft. Am Montag wartete diese Seite aus der Tageszeitung auf mich. Nicht wundern ich arbeite auch in Krefeld. Wir haben es auch in die Fotostrecke geschafft. Die wunderbare Ricarda Engelsberger von „Mein wunderbarer Hutsalon“ und eine Freundin im viktorianischen Outfit sind auf Seite 2.

My birthday hat by Hüte von Hand. Sometimes it takes a little longer to make up your mind. I saw this beauty 2015 at one of the largest regional craft markets and this year the hat was recreated for me.
Ahhhh, mein Geburtstagshut von Hüte von Hand. Manchmal dauert es etwas länger bis man sich einen Ruck gibt: 2015 auf dem Flachsmarkt gesehen und dieses Jahr von Susanne Bollman für mich noch einmal hergestellt worden.
This jockey and race horses scarf is probably from the 1960s – not silk though, as stated by its eBay seller and goes well with the straw bag.
Dieser Jockey- und Rennpferde-Schal ist vermutlich aus den 1960gern- leider nicht aus Seide, wie vom eBay-Händler angegeben und passt gut zur einfachen Strohtasche.
The brooches with the jockey and the lucky heather with a horseshoe are vintage frinds from eBay. The necklace with the red stone is by Fräulein Wildkirsch.
Die Jockey und die Brosche mit dem Heidekraut und dem Hufeisen sind vintage und bei eBay vor einigen Jahren gefunden. Die Kette mit dem Anhänger ist von Fräulein Wildkirsch.
