Hello Spring – my Lily of the Valley Hat

Hello Spring! The foliage is coming back. Green is sprucing. Time to get this beautiful hat from Frollein von Sofa out. I bought it last year in Berlin. It’s name is Enie, after the gorgeous Enie van de Meiklokjes. Who wears a lot of the Frolleins pretty confections!
Hallo Frühling! Die Blätter kommen zurück. Überall spriesst das Grün hervor. Genau der richtige Zeitpunkt diesen wunderschönen Hut herauszuholen. Ich habe ihn letztes Jahr bei Frollein von Sofa in Berlin gekauft. Er hat den schönen Namen Enie – nach der grossartigen Enie van de Meiklokjes. Die wiederum sehr, sehr viele Stücke des Frolleins trägt.

I combined this charming hat with the Pin Up Girl Clothing dress I wore in Berlin in Summer and for the German Curves for a green valentine.
Den charmanten kleinen Hut trage ich mit meinem Veronica-Kleid vin Pin-Up-Girl-Clothing. Das hatte ich auf dem Blog schon im Sommer in Berlin an und auch für die German Curves zum Valentins Date.

I do love my greens. The dress has a glorious pin up style. And with the black blouse underneath it is proper office wear, too. The jacket is from Murek, bought at the Plussize Fashion Days in Hamburg last October.
Ich liebe meine Grüntöne. Das Kleid hat einen tollen Pin-Up-Stil und mit der Bluse drunter ist es auch bürotauglich. Das Jackett ist von Murek, gekauft bei den Plussize Fashion Days im Oktober in Hamburg.
The tapestry bag is real vintage.
Die Gobelintasche ist echt alt – so etwas war in den 1960gern sehr beliebt.

The little hat „only“ has a vintage vibe. But what a vibe. This is spring. I lusted after this hat for a few month and when I was in Berlin I bought it together with another one from the Frollein. In the end we regret the things we didn’t do more.
Der kleine Hut hat „nur“ einen Retro-Touch. Aber was für einen. So sieht der Frühling aus.Ich bon online sehr lange um diesen Hut herumgeschlichen. Aber im letzten Sommer habe ich mir dann zwei Hüte beim Frollein gekauft. Am Ende bedauern wir mehr was wir nicht getan haben.

Back again in Pink Polka-Dots

Miss Kittenheel is back online! A few mishaps and then my blog was gone for a week. But there was also an opportunity in that involuntary break. I had a good thought to remind myself why I do this and what I want.
Miss Kittenheel ist wieder da! Durch die Kombination ein paar unglücklicher Faktoren war mein Blog eine Woche offline. Aber die unfreiwillige Pause hatte auch ihr gutes. Ich habe die Tage genutzt um in mich zu gehen und mir zu überlegen warum ich das alles mache und was ich will.

That looks a bit different to when I first started. Back when I started my blog I had exalted ideas. Of many cooperations. Glittering events. Life like so often turned out differently. I pouted a bit for a while. But not anymore. I made a few cooperations. Some were great fun. A few not so much. However all were educational.
Das sieht mittlerweile etwas anders aus als ich mir das am Anfang vorgestellt hatte. Als ich mit dem Blog angefangen hatte, hatte ich überzogene Vorstellungen. Von ganz vielen Kooperationen. Schillernden Veranstaltungen. Aber das Leben ist oft anders. Ich habe ein wenig geschmollt. Nicht mehr. Ich habe ein paar Kooperationen gemacht. Einige waren toll. Andere nicht so sehr. Gelernt habe ich immer was.

And yes, I have been to some really cool events and places too, because of my blog. I met quite a few fascinating people through blogging and some where I was baffled why they were successful. Don’t give me that diligence crap. with some I struggled  to tell them apart. That is also due to me being a bit of an analphabet when it comes to facial recognition.
Und ja, ich durfte zu einigen tollen Events und Orten wegen des Blogs. Ich habe viele fazinierende oder spannende Menschen durch das Bloggen kennengelernt. Bei manchen habe ich mich gewundert warum sie so erfolgreich waren (oder sind). Das hat nicht immer was mit Fleiss und Einsatz zu tun. Bei manchen hatte ich Probleme sie auseinander zu halten. Das liegt aber auch daran, dass ich ein ziemlicher Gesichtsanalphabet bin und die gleichen Leute öfters kennenlernen kann.

But basically that is not what keeps my blog going. It is the fun, the indulgence and also the responses I get. Sure there are not a lot of comments as they were „before“ on most blogs. But it is the personal feedback that motivates me way more that the fullest goodie bag. It feels ace when you know you are responsible that someone bought and wore her first dress in twenty years.
Aber wenn ich ehrlich bin, dass ist nicht warum ich mit meinem Blog weiter mache. Es macht Spass, ist etwas was mir gut tut und ja, ich mag die Bestätigung.  Es wird auf den meisten Blogs nicht mehr so viel kommentiert wie „früher“. Aber das persönliche Feedback ist trotzdem grossartig und motiviert mich mehr als die prallste Goodie Bag. Es fühlt sich toll an wenn man gesagt bekommt, dass man dafür verantwortlich ist, das sich jemand nach knapp 20 Jahren das erste Kleid kauft, anzieht und sich darin wohl fühlt.

I love it to have a save place where I make all the decisions. Be that styling or design issues, time management, cooperations either with firms or fellow bloggers.  I neither have that freedom in my job as a landscape architect nor in politics.
Ich liebe diesen Ort an dem ich alle Entscheidungen fälle. Egal ob styling oder design, Zeitplanung, Kooperationen mit Firmen oder anderen Bloggern. Diese Freiheit habe ich weder in meinem Job in der Landschaftsarchitektur oder in der Politik. 
 

So the fun will continue!
Der Spass geht also weiter!

This outfit sums me up pretty well. It is quite typical. We got a dress, some basics and some fun things. The basics are the sturdy brogues, the tights, the cropped denim jacket, the black chiffon pussy bow blouse, the beret and the mini messenger bag. The dress is a part of the fun things together with the cat umbrella.
Dieses Outfit ist recht typisch für mich. Da ist ein Kleid, einige Basics und Dinge, die Spass machen. Die Basics sind die Hochfrontpumps, the blickdichte Strumpfhose, die selbstgekürzte Jeansjacke, die schwarze Chiffon-Schluppenbluse, die Baskenmütze und die kleine Umhängetasche. Das Kleid gehört zu den Dingen, die Spass machen – zusammen mit dem Katzenschirm.

On the Go: Gingham Girl – Kleinkariert in Schwarz und Weiss

This outfit has been on my mind for a long time. I really like black and white gingham but somehow like dogtooth it doesn’t quite work for me. The dress ia another variation of LindyBop’s Audrey. I got quite a few of them. Florals, uni, checks, dots, etc.
Dieses Outfit wollte ich schon seit einer Weile zeigen. Ich mag das schwarz-weisse Vichykaro sehr. aber ähnlich wie Hahnentritt finden wir nicht wirklich zueinander. Dieses Kleid ist eine weitere Variante von LindyBops Audrey. Ich habe  einige davon. Mit Blumenmustern oder Punkten, in Uni, etc.

This one is made of a seersucker like material. In black and white. Paired with a cream cardi I prefer to wear as a wrap and a toile scarf I got at a plus size secondhand market. The shoes and handbag pick up the pink from the scarf.
Das Kleid ist aus einer Art Seersucker. In Schwarz-Weiss. Kombiniert hier mit einer cremefarbenen Strickjacke. Getragen als Weickeljacke. Das Tuch mit dem Toile de Jouy Muster habe ich letztes Jahr beim Plussize-Flohmarkt Weiberkram XL gekauft. Die Schuhe und die Handtasche greifen das Pink des Musters auf.

I am still recovering from a tooth operation. Got a hurty cheek and I am rather worn out. The swelling recedes very slowly. So enough text. Here are the pics.
Ich erhole mich immer noch von einer Zahn-OP. Die Backe tut weh und ich bin immer noch platt. Die Schwellung lässt langsam nach. Genug Text. Hier sind die Bilder.

French Curves: Candy et DIY your Closet Bonbon Fascinator

Thème du mars pour les French Curves est Candy. Comme les bonbons. Je n’a pas beaucoup des choses en couleurs bonbon. J’ai vendue cette robe là. Mais j’ai trouvé quelquechose dans ma garderobe.
Theme of the French Curves Fashion Challenge in March is Candy. As in Sweets. I don’t have a lot in candy colours. And I sold that dress. But I found something in my wardrobe.

Les pantoufles de Frollein von Sofa s’appellent Candy. Ils sont du velours (thème du février) rouge et ont des bonbons rose scintillant. J’adore la creativité de la Frollein. Elle fait des petits chapeaux et ils sont une veritable fête.
These Mules from Frollein von Sofa are called Candy. They are made of bright red velvet (february’s theme) and got lovely sparkling pink sweets on top. Anyway I adore the creativity of the Frollein. She makes striking and adorable mini hats. They are a veritable feast.

Un autre challenge était DIY your Closet de Kathastrophal et Mein Feenstaub. J’ai fait 8 fascinateurs et un demi chapeau pour ça en 2016. Cet an le nom à changée et il y a aussi dès thèmes. Moi je suis un peut „one-trick pony“ -toujours le même rengaine avec moi.
Another challenge was the DIY your Closet by Kathastrophal and Mein Feenstaub. I made 8 fascinators and a half hat for that in 2016. This year the name of the challenge changed and there are themes now. It is also more sewing related. And I am out – am probably too fmuch of a one trick pony for that.

Mais j’aime bien mes petits chapeaux. Le dernier est inspiré par la Frollein. Et je le fait pour le challenge Candy. Pas mal pour un vieux couverture d’un coussin et un morceau de cotton rose strié.
I’ll stick to my fascinators. I just like to make these mini hats. The latest one is inspred by the Frollein for the Candy challenge. Not bad for an old pillow case and a bit of stripey pink cotton.

Comme j’ai déjà dit je n’a pas beaucoup des choses en couleurs bonbon. Le rose fort va très bien avec le rouge vivant. Rose dans tout ses variations et noir sont toujours une bonne idée. Le top peplum et la jupe crayon sont très formal et un joli contraste avec les mules.
Like I already said before I don’t own a lot of things in candy colours. The bright pink works rather well with the vibrant red. Pink (in all of its shades)and black are always a good idea. The peplum top and the pencil skirt are quite formal and a nice contrast to the playful mules.

Welcome back to another round of German Curves. Theme of the month is „style an outfit inspired by your favourite blogger and tell us why you picked them“. It was an obvious choice for me: Gemma from RetroChick, based in the UK. She isn’t a plussize blogger. Her style is quirky, retro and fun.
Willkommen bei einer weiteren Runde der German Curves. Thema diesen Monat ist „Ein Outfit inspiriert von deinem Lieblingsblogger und warum du sie und ihren Stil magst“. Die Wahl fiel mir leicht – das ist Gemma von RetroChick aus England. Sie ist keine Plussize-Bloggerin. Ihr Stil ist eigenwillig, retro und macht Spass.



As a blogger I read a few other blogs. Not as many and as regulary as I like. Apart from work and politics,turned producing my own content and social media stuff out a bit more time consuming than I anticipated when I started my blog. But there are some I like to read because they are good reads, others because I like them and a few because they inspire me. Gemma fits all of that.
Als Bloggerin lese ich einige andere Blogs. Nicht so viele und so regelmässig wie ich das gerne würde. Neben meiner Arbeit und der Politik, nimmt das Erstellen eigener Inhalte und Social Media Pflege mehr Zeit in Anspruch als erwartet als ich mit dem Bloggen anfing. Aber es gibt natürlich einige denen ich folge weil sie einfacht gut zu lesen sind, andere weil ich sie mag und einige wenige weil sie mich inspirieren. Gemma schafft es in alle drei dieser Kategorien.


When I did my research to check if there still is a niche for my style I came across her. We do like quite the same things. And I admit she is responsible for more than a few things I own. Like this LindyBop dress – when I saw it on her I so wanted that dress. That started an obsession with the brand. LindyBop soon afterwards became the number one in my wardrobe. And no, they don’t sponsor me!
Als ich recherchierte ob ich überhaupt das Bloggen anfangen sollte, ob es noch eine Nische für mich git habe ich ihren Blog entdeckt. Wir mögen schon sehr, sehr ähnliche Dinge. Und sie ist für mehr als nur ein paar Sachen in meinem Schrank verantwortlich. Wie dieses Kleid von LindyBop – als ich das an ihr sah wollte ich das auch. Das war der Beginn einer Leidenschaft für dieses Label, das mittlerweile meine Garderobe dominiert. Und nein, die sponsorn mich nicht!

Gemma from RetroChick likes stripes, novelty prints, cocktails (even more when they are on her clothing as well), berets, roller derby and a vintage style that isn’t authentic but something you can wear outside a museum. I appreciate her wit and humor when she writes about the vintage lifestyle or how to spot a blogger.
Gemma von RetroChick mag Streifen, NoveltyPrints (immer wieder ist die Übersetzung schwer – grafische Muster – ob Katzen oder Landschaften), Cocktails (auch oder gerade wenn sie sich auf ihrer Kleidung wiederfinden), Baskenmützen, Roller Derby und einen Vintage-Stil der nicht authentisch, aber dafür ausserhalb eines Museums tragbar ist. Ich mag ihren Humor und ihre Art die Dinge zu sehen – ob sie über die Tücken des Vintage-Lebens oder aber darüber wie man einen Blogger erkennt schreibt. Sie schreibt ausschliesslich auf Englisch.


The hat, marabou bag and the kittenheels are something you won’t see on her blog. That is the „inspired by“ bit. Gemma doesn’t show a lot of handbags. And though I got quite a selection mine with the most mileage is a crossover mini messenger bag. Because it is damn practical. On the bike and even for semi-formal receptions. You got both hands free – one to shake hands and the other one for a drink (or a plate, or a drink and a plate a bit later).
Der Hut, die Maraboufeder-Tasche und die Kittenheels findet man so nicht auf ihrem Blog. Das ist der „inspiriert von“-Teil. Gemma zeigt auf ihrem Blog wenig Handtaschen. Auch wenn meine eigene Sammlung recht umfangreich ist, ist die Tasche mit dem meisten Freigang eine kleine Umschlagtasche, die man quer über dem Körper tragen kann. Das ist verdammt praktisch. Auf dem Fahrrad oder bei nicht allzu festlichen Empfängen. So bleiben die Hände frei – eine zum Hände schütteln und die andere für ein Getränk (oder einen Teller, oder etwas später für ein Getränk und einen Teller).

I hope one day I meet Gemma in person – she sounds fun. Maybe next year I’ll find the time to drop by Norwich Cocktail Week for a few drinks. Not surprisingly I got a dress for that, too.
Ich hoffe irgendwann treffe ich Gemma auch mal persönlich – sie klingt nach jemand mit dem man viel Spass haben kann. Vielleicht finde ich ja nächstes Mal die Zeit bei der Cocktail-Woche in Norwich für ein paar Drinks vorbeizuschauen. Wenig überraschend habe ich auch dafür schon das passende Kleid.

Sweet Lipsticks – a summer dress for all seasons

Black is safe. Especially in construction. At least on the planners side. A solid choice for all seasons. Lipsticks are fun. And sexy. And that is the dress too. I have worn it in Berlin for the 2016 Summer fashion week. A good choice.

By the way – theme of the month is black, white and pink. 

Pussy bow blouses are always a bit prim. Even when a little sheer. A whiff of librarians, school marms, the strict secretary. The chiffon softens that somewhat. But the idea still lingers in the back.

I like to wear this to work. Not for meetings though. By the time I publish this I will have worn this look to a political gathering. A friend asked me if I wanted to be her plus one. And I was curious. I wouldn’t wear it to a similar event of my own party. But after a change of plans it was either wear it all day today or get changed before I leave work. And I couldn’t be arsed to do that.

The pattern is ace!

Ok, looking back I stood out. But not in a bad way. I think I prefer the „all season“ or winter version to the summmer style. What about you?

Greenerey – Alles, was grün ist – ü30Blogger & Friends

Spring is springing and this month I celebrate green. Not just Pantone’s colour of the year 2017 greenery but all shades of green. Together with the ladies from the German ü30-bloggers we made a blog parade of all things green.
Hasch mich – ich bin der Frühling. Diese Monat feiere ich die Farbe grün. Nicht nur das Greenery-Grün der Pantone Farbe des Jahres 2017, sondern die Farbe in all ihren Facetten. Zusammen mit den Damen von den ü30-Bloggern haben wir eine Blog-Parade zum Thema „Alles was Grün ist“ gemacht.

So here we go – the soft pistachio green cashmere, the vibrant green pin-up blouse and the boucle scarf with a mix of greens including mint and olive.
Hier sind wir denn nun – die Hell-Pistaziengrüne Cashmere Strickjacke, die knallgrüne Pin-Up Bluse und der Boucleschal mit seinem Mix aus Grüntönen mit Mint und Oliv.

Dieses Stück von Nadia Birkenstock erinnert mich an frische grüne Blätter im Frühling.

The skirt celebrates spring with a happy border of tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, bellflowers, lilies and irises.
Der Rock schreit nur so nach Frühling mit seiner strahlenden Bordüre aus fröhlichen Tulpen, Osterglocken, Hyazinthen, Glockenblumen, Iris und Lilien.

I like to wear green throughout the seasons like the sassy green satin dress in the lower right corner.
Ich trage gerne Grün, unabhängig von der Jahreszeit. Wie zum Beispiel das rasante Kleid aus grünem Satin unten Links.

And I like green at work too – apart from having a green job as a landscape architect.
Und ich mag auch Grün am Arbeitsplatz – abgesehen davon das ich als Dipl.-Ing (FH) Landschaftsarchitektur und Umweltplanung einen grünen Beruf habe.

On the Go: Waiting for Spring – Warten auf den Frühling

Sorry – English only today. I am not the biggest fan of winter. Truth be told I am already pining for spring. This outfit waited quite a while to happen. But something always came inbetween. The light blue and deep green makes me think of spring.

Theme of this months is „Going Green“. I’ll wait for spring in shades of green. This classic wiggle dress reminds me of the dresses Joan Holloway, the sexy office manager in Mad Men wears. It’s a nice deep green. I wore this outfit to this months council meeting. But it would be ok for a design team or planning meeting for work, too. And no, I am not wearing the beret inside.
This dress needs to get a bit more mileage. Last time on the blog I wore it with my brown shirt – more lady of the manor style.

Plussize Fashion Days Hamburg 2016 – Beth Ditto Lola Lipstick Dress

I guess I never travelled for so few days with so much luggage like this weekend. The destination were the Plussize Fashion Days by Kurvenrausch in Hamburg. 2016 was the fourth time for the event.
Ich kann ich nicht daran erinnern für so wenige Tage schon mal soviel Gepäck mitgenommen zu haben. Das Ziel waren die Plussize Fashion Days von Kurvenrausch in Hamburg. 2016 war das vierte Event dieser Art.

A themed party, two days of shopping and a Fashion/ Award show. Lots of plussize bloggers and fashion savvy people present. You want to look your best for that. For the travel days I chose my Beth Ditto dress. The Lola in the lipstick print is quite flamboyant.

 Eine Mottoparty, zwei Tage zu, shoppen und eine Modenschau mit Preisverleihung. Viele (Plussize) Blogger und modebewusste Frauen. Da will man glänzen. Für die Reisetage habe ich mich für mein Beth Ditto Kleid entschieden. But first the new line got introduced. Slim fitted jeans are not really my thing. But I liked a denim carmen top and some floral crepe pants.
Zuerst wurde die neue Kollektion vorgestellt. Slimfit-Jeans sind nicht wirklich mein Ding. Gut gefallen haben mit ein Carmentop aus Jeans und eine Crêpe-Hose mit floralem Muster.

Peacocks in Purple – Trenchcoat

I am used to get noticed. Not primarily as a fat person. But as someone who dresses very uniquely. Flamboyant even. I don’t mind. Actually it is something I got used to a few years ago. I don’t realise it on many days. I get more compliments than laughs. However, the purple peacock trench coat is in a league of its own.
Ich bin es gewohnt aufzufallen. Nicht primär weil ich fett bin. Aber als jemand, die sehr auffällig gekleidet ist. Das macht mir nichts. Um ehrlich zu sein ist es etwas an das ich mich vor einigen Jahren gewöhnt habe. An den meisten Tagen fällt es mir nicht mal mehr auf. Ich bekomme mehr Komplimente, als das ich ausgelacht werde. Der lila Trenchcoat mit dem Pfauenmuster ist allerdings in seiner eigenen Liga. 

LindyBop introduced it in summer. There was another one with a heart pattern like here on Ninaah’s „Big or not to Big“.  Both quickly sold out despite being out of season. The arms are not that generously cut. Neither is the breast. So I sized up. It is fully skirted so putting a petticoat underneath doesn’t look stuffed.
LindyBop hatte den Mantel im Sommer im Programm. Es gab den noch mit einem Herz-muster, wie hier bei Ninaah auf ihrem Blog „Big or not to Big“. Beide waren schnell ausverkauft. Auch wenn die nicht ganz zur Jahreszeit passten.Die Arme sind nicht sehr grosszügig geschnitten. Die Brust auch nicht. Deswegen habe ich eine Grösse grösser genommen. Der Rockteil ist grosszügig genug geschnitten. It is long enough to cover my skirts and dresses. Which is good. Not a lot of patterns go with it. It is a statement coat. Perfect for the transitional season or a rather cool summer day.
Der Mantelsaum ist lang genug um über meine Röcke und Kleider zu gehen. Das ist gut so. Muster passen nämlich kaum welche dazu. Es ist halt ein „Statement“-Mantel. Ein Einzelstück. I want to wear it in London in springtime. With my little black Lola dress from Beth Ditto (currently at a bargain price – 70% of the original). Neither the bright Asian pattern nor the vivid purple are for the faint of heart. But of course I’d buy it any day again.
Ich will diesen Mantel im Frühjahr in London anziehen. Mit Lola, meinem kleinen Schwazen von Beth Ditto (das jetzt gerade für einen Hammerpreis im Sale ist – 70% reduziert). Weder das leuchtende Lila noch das asiatische Muster sind etwas für Zaghafte.
