Trendfarbe 2018 – Ultra Violet – ü30Blogger & Friends

Pantone hat wieder eine Farbe des Jahres ins Rennen geschickt – Ultra Violet. Letztes Jahr was das Greenery. Das warme Grün war mehr meines. Trotzdem mag ich Lila, Purpur oder Violett. Eher die wärmeren Töne. Ultra Violet is kalt.
Pantone picked another colour of the year – ultra violet. Last year it was greenery. I liked the warm green a bit better. Still I quite like purple, violet and lilac. But more the warmer shades. Ultra Violet is cold.

Die Farbe Lila steht oft für das Mystische und Geheimnisvolle. Für Kreativität. In der Kirche findet sie Einsatz zu Advents- und Fastenzeit. Letzteres passt doch ausnehmend gut. Karneval ist gerade vorbei. Lila ist auch die Farbe des Feminismus – und auch das passt gut zu mir.
The colour purple is often used within a mystic or mysterious context. For creativity. The Church uses it during Advent and Lent. Quite matching since carinval is just less than a week ago. Purple is also the colour of suffrage and feminism. And that is befitting, too.

Geek Style in Ultra Violet

Mein eigenes Thema diesen Monat ist Geek Style. Dazu passt das eigenwillige Lila sehr gut. Der deutsche Farbname Lila kommt übrigens vom Flieder (Lilas), via Spanien und Frankreich. Das Wort Violett kommt Veilchen. Das fand ich auch sehr passend und habe meine Veilchenbrosche herausgesucht.
My own theme this month is geek style. The headstrong violet works quite well with that. So does the vintage brooch with violets.

Die Karobrosche hat mit den Keulenärmeln einen sehr viktorianischen Touch, das Kleid erinnert mich an die Schuluniformen und die Krawatte an das King’s College in Cambridge und mehrere Besuche in der traditionsreichen Universität Stadt.
The gingham blouse with the mutton chop statement sleeves has quite a victorian touch, the pinafore dress reminds me of school uniforms and the tie of King’s College in Cambridge and a few visits to the venerable university city.

Mehr in Lila gibt es bei mir hier mit dem winterlichen Brokatkleid und dieses Jahr wird der Mantel mit den violetten Pfauen auch einiges an Auslauf erhalten – zumindest wenn es bald wieder wärmer wird.

FrenchCurves: Cosy Winter Cats

Le janvier est pour moi le plus triste mois de l’année. Les lumières et les décorations de Noël retourent au sous-sol. Il fait froid et c’est encore trop sombre.
January is for me the most dreary month of the year. The christmas lights and decorations have returned to the basement. It is cold and it is still too dark for my taste.

Et pour cette raison c’est très important pour moi de me habiller pas seulement chaud mais chic et joyeuse. La jupe avec les chats n’est pas serieuse. Très jolie pour un dimanche. Pour manger les sushis avec des amis. Il y a même des poissons sur l’imprime de la jupe. Les couleurs sont bien pour l’hiver (mais aussi pour l’été).
That is why it is even more important for me in January to dress not only warm but chic and cheerful. The cat skirt is definitely playful. Perfect for a sunday. Especially when going out for sushi with friends. (Hey, there are even fishies on the print). The colours are great for winter (and good for summer, too).

Le grand foulard est très doux et chaud et il va super avec pleine des couleurs.
The plaid is seriously soft and warm and it goes with so many colours.

NYE-Glam Snow Queen – Schneekönigin zu Silvester

Another year over. Miss Kittenheel as a blog is in it’s 4th year. A toddler now. I can safely say I have now more fun with it than in the first two years.
Wieder ist ein Jahr geschafft. Miss Kittenheel, der Blog ist ein seinem vierten Jahr. Quasi ein Kleinkind. Ich kann mit Sicherheit sagen das letzte Jahr hat mir viel mehr Freude bereitet als die ersten beiden.

My expectations are lower – or more realistic: internet fame hasn’t knocked on my door. And to be fair I am not really running after it either. I am happy in my niche. Happy with my readers. And I have quite a few outfits queueing up in my notes for 2018 to entertain or inspire you.
Meine Erwartungen sind geringer, bzw. realistischer: Internet-Ruhm hat nicht an meine Tür geklopft. Gut, wirklich danach gejagt habe ich auch nicht. Ich bin zufrieden in meiner Nische. Und mit meinen Lesern, bzw. Leserinnen. Ich habe auch 2018 einiges für euch an Ideen in meinen Notizen.

Last year I decided to cut a little back on the shopping. And I did. Well, at least compared to the year before. I am not still back to pre-blogging and the January sales are not the time to start that either.
Letztes Jahr habe ich beschlossen etwas weniger zu shoppen. Das hat auch geklappt. Zumindest verglichen mit dem Jahr davor. Ich bin immer noch nicht auf dem Level wie vor der Bloggerei und die Schlussverkäufe im Januar sind auch kein guter Zeitpunkt das durchzuführen.

Homemade Fascinator – Selbstgemachter Fascinator

I also kept a wardrobe diary for the entire year. I used my shopping track list and wrote the dates behind when I wore which dress/ jeans/ skirt. Not down to the last sock – but a much more reliable system than the one where you turn the hanger in your closet around.
Ich habe es geschafft das ganze Jahr ein Kleidertagebuch zu führen. Ausgehend von einer Auflistung meiner Einkäufe, habe mit notiert was ich wann anhatte. Nicht bis zum letzten Socken herunter gebrochen – aber ein wesentlich verlässlicheres System als einfach nur die Kleiderbügel herumzudrehen.

I already knew more or less which thigs I didn’t wear. But it was interesting to see what I wear most and how often I wear my favourite things.
Dann das ich meine Sachen anziehe und was eher nicht wusste ich vorher schon. Aber zu sehen was wie oft getragen wird und auch wie oft ich Lieblingsteile trage war schon spannend.

Just in case you wonder: it is a draw between LindyBop’s Bernice Paris Dress (even worn in Paris!) and Beth Ditto’s Black Lola Dress. Both worn 8 times. Yes, I do have a lot of clothing. Fancy a peek into my wardrobe? Or here on Pinterest.
Nur falls ihr euch fragt – es gab ein Unentschieden zwischen dem Bernice Paris Kleid von LindyBop (sogar in Paris getragen!) und dem schwarzen Lola Kleid von Beth Ditto. Beide hatte ich 8x an. Hier könnt ihr einen Blick in meinen Schrank werfen – oder hier bei Pinterest. Ja, ich habe sehr viele Anziehsachen.

What are my New Year’s resolutions?
Get a bit fitter. And fit again into a few dresses I didn’t wear this year. Which is not really a gargantuan goal. Only half a dress size. So, more cycling, too. Getting more sleep, definitely. Less stress. Cook more (instead of eating out).
Was sind denn meine guten Vorsätze für das nächste Jahr?
Etwas fitter zu werden. Und wieder in einige der Kleider zu passen, die ich dieses Jahr nicht anhatte. Das ist bei einer halben Kleidergrösse kein gigantisches Unterfangen. Also, mehr Fahrradfahren. Mehr Schlaf (ohhhh yes). Weniger Stress. Wieder mehr selber kochen (anstelle was zu holen).

Spend more time with my favourite people. Actually we are working on that. Two of them, my parents, are moving to Bochum sometime in mid-summer. Same town, but to a suburb. A bit of romance would be nice, but it takes two to tango. Two of my favorite people are expecting a child. And I am quite excited about that. Life will change. It usually does.
Mehr Zeit mit meinen Lieblingsmenschen verbringen. Daran arbeiten wir ganz aktuell. Zwei davon, meine Eltern, werden nächstes Jahr zu mir nach Bochum ziehen. Also in die gleiche Stadt. Aber in einen Vorort. Etwas Romantik wäre nett, aber dazu gehören immer zwei. Zwei andere Menschen, an denen mir viel liegt, erwarten bald ein Kind. Und auch darauf freue ich mich. Das Leben verändert sich wieder einmal. Wie immer.

Let’s bring a little reason out into that world where fake news and hate speech run rampant. Don’t fight on every corner – but pick your fights. We just have to. If the wise always give in, the stupid will run the circus – and in the long run that is very bad for all of us.
Anyway – have a very happy new year!
Lasst uns etwas Vernunft in diese Welt bringen in der Fake News und Hasstiraden sich rasant verbreiten. Man muss nicht an jeder Ecke kämpfen – aber man sollte sich schon dagegen wehren. Wenn die Klügeren immer nachgeben, regieren die Deppen die Welt. Auf lange Sicht schadet das uns allen.
Anyway – ich wünsche Euch einen guten Rutsch und ein schönes neues Jahr!

On the Go: Purple Winter Queen

Another look fo the horse drawn sleigh. Much cooler in colour than my Russian Princess look. Anyway – Chirstmas is over. It is still winter. The sales are on. Note to self: got to get a new dress for work and one for home.
Noch ein Look für den Pferdeschlitten. Die Farben sind aber wesentlich kühler als bei der Russischen Prinzessin. Anyway – Weihnachten ist vorbei. Der Winter ist immer noch da. Und zwischen den Jahren haben die Sales begonnen. Ich muss mir noch ein Kleid für die Arbeit bestellen und eines für zuhause.

This dress is on sale too. I had it altered quite a bit. As a first the sleeves were too wide, I needed another seam at the bust, pockets and the hem was shortened.
Dieses Kleid ist mittlerweile auch wieder im Sale. An diesem habe ich einiges ändern lassen: die Ärmel waren viel zu weit (das ist das erste Mal bei LindyBop), am Busen brauchte ich einen weiteren Abnäher, der Saum wurde gekürzt und es gab Taschen.

The brocade is very pretty with deer and winter trees on a snowy landscape with chalets (or huts) and cottages. The colour is between a grey and a lilac. I like to combine it with orange or purple. Brown is good (and the obvious choice).
Der Brokatstoff ist sehr hübsch mit dem winterlichen Motiv mit Rehen in einer Schneelandschaft mit Hütten und winterlichen Bäumen. Die Farbe ist etwas untentschlossen zwischen Lila und Grau. Dazu kombiniere ich gerne Violett oder Orange. Für den Kontrast. Brau geht auch, ist aber etwas zu offensichtlich.

On the Go: Business to Christmas (Party)

On Christmas Eve you’ll get my final Christmas look. A bit more formal than my last Business to Christmas look. Actually the one I wore last year for our office do. Usually we start with drinks downstairs and then go to a nice restaurant.
Heiligabend bekommt ihr meinen letzten Weihnachtslook für dieses Jahr. Dieses Outfit ist etwas formeller als mein letzer Business to Christmas Look. Das hatte ich letztes Jahr zu unserer Büroweihnachtsfeier getragen. Traditionell beginnen wir das mit Sekt und begeben uns dann zu einem netten Restaurant.

It is also something I’d wear for a classical concert or the theatre. inus the cardi and the wrist warmers.
Finde das ist auch ein prima Outfit fürs Konzert, in die Oper oder ins Schauspielhaus. Natürlich ohne die Strickjacke und die Pulswärmer.

Takes less than 5 minutes to turn it into a really festive look that looks like you are ready to sit down for a very civilised Christmas dinner with colleagues. The woodland wreath or fir fascinator, the dainty Christmas bell pendant can stay during office hours in a larger bag.
In weniger als 5 Minuten wird aus dem winterlichen Bürolook ein komplettes Weihnachtsoutfit das sich perfekt für ein nettes Weihnachtsdinner mit Kollegen eignet. Der Winterwald-Fascinator oder Kranz und der Anhänger mit der kleinen Weihnachtsglocke können während der Arbeitszeit diskret in einer grösseren Tasche auf ihren späteren Einsatz warten.

On the Go: Business to Christmas

Christmas is for many of us a very busy time. Pprojects need to be completed. Lots of social events and sometimes I go straight from work to an informal Christmas do. So either one changes completely and end up very overdressed or you kind of go for a mix – like here.
Weihnachten ist für viele von uns eine stressige Zeit. Projekte müssen noch fertig werden. Viele Weihnachtsfeiern und Jahresausklänge. Und an einigen Tagen geht es direkt von der Arbeit los. Da gibt es nicht viele Möglichkeiten – entweder man zieht sich um und ist dann massiv overdressed oder man versucht einen Mix. So wie hier.

The base of the outfit is a „tweed“ skirt by LindyBop in a dark moss green tartan, a red pin-up blouse and not very sparkly golden Kittenheels. With a scarf very work appropriate. Better wear at least a cardi for standing in the snow!
Das Grundgerüst dieses Looks ist ein „Tweed“rock von LindyBop in Dunkelgrün, eine rote Pin-Up-Bluse und die nicht sehr glitzernden goldenen Kittenheels. Zusammen mit einem Tuch sehr bürotauglich. Um dekorativ im Schnee herum zu stehen empfehle ich allerdings noch mindestens eine Strickjacke!

The chunky Christmas charm necklace (with a snowman, candy cane, snowflake, tree and holly) – I was forever sneaking around it and got it a few days after Christmas. Just one thing to keep in mind – it can get very cold and it is a lot of metal in one’s cleavage – so you might want to give it a miss for dressing up on the Christmas Market. Better wear a cosy scarf there!
Um die robuste Weihnachtskette mit den Anhängern (Schneemann, Schneeflocken, Tannenbaum) bin ich Wochen herumgeschlichen. Kurz nach Weihnachten habe ich sie mir gekauft. Kleiner Tipp – an der Kette ist verdammt viel Metall. Das wurde sehr kalt. Nicht unbedingt was für den Weihnachtsmarkt – da empfiehlt sich ein kuscheliger Schal!

Ü30-Blogger + Friends: Erbstücke – Heirlooms

I feel in love with this motto for the blog parade months ago. Heirlooms. Or more prosaic hand-downs. I have a few things from both of my grandmothers. From my mum’s mum some pieces of jewellry and scarves and from my other grandmother two handbags.
Ich habe mich vor einigen Monaten in das Thema dieser Blogparade verliebt: Ebstücke (oder Erinnerungsstücke). Ich habe ein paar Andenken von meinen beiden Grossmüttern. Von der Oma mütterlicherseits etwas Schmuck und ein paar Tücher und zwei Handtaschen von der anderen Oma.

Fun fact: I am standing on front of pictures of industrial heritage. How apropriate.
Fun Fakt: Ich stehe vor Fotos zur Industriekultur des Ruhrgebiets. Finde das passt.

I love the paisley 50s brooch and an opaque amber one matching the necklace in colour. It is the amber I most associate with my maternal gran. The amber also reminds me of the holidays my Mum spent as a child with her parennts on Borkum in the North Sea.
Ich liebe die Paisley-Brosche und eine Brosche, die zur Halskette passt. Der Bernstein erinnert mich immer an die Urlaube als meine Ma noch ein Kind war. Da hing es mit den Eltern immer in die Sommerfrische nach Borkum.

The crocodile handbag is from my other grandmother. My dad’s mum. It is from the 1960s. I also have a few fob or pocket watches that I showed in May in „One of the Boys“.
Die Kroko-Handtasche ist von meiner anderen Grossmutter. Der Mutter meines Vaters. Die Tasche ist aus den 1960gern. Ich habe auch noch ein paar Taschenuhren – die habe ich im Mai gezeigt bei „one of the boys“.

My two grandmothers where very different. The best thing I inherited f is a keen sense of survival and practicality.
Meine beiden Grossmütter waren sehr verschieden. Mit das Beste, dass ich geerbt habe ist ein ausgeprägter Überlebenswille und eine praktische Veranlagung.

Crispy Seaside

Summer is gone. It is Autumn. And suddenly we have a few glorious warm days again. And it is finally time to post this wonderful outfit. Looks more casual this way than last summer.
Der Sommer ist vorbei. Es ist Herbst. Und doch hatten wir ein paar wunderschöne warme Tage. Es ist endlich Zeit dieses Outfit mit Euch zu teilen. Diesmal trage ich das Kleid etwas lässiger.

The pics were taken in the dunes of Borkum. It is a maritime outfit for cooler days. I love the little jeyy basket. So much fun. But for practicality I put a scarf in there as lining.
Aufgenommen in den Dünen auf Borkum. Es ist ein Marine-Look für kühlere Tage. Ich liebe den kleinen Korb. Damit nichts herausfällt habe ich ein Tuch als Innenfutter hineingetan.

Oktoberfest Craze: Dirndl-Time

It is late October and the Munich Oktoberfest is over. Lots of local ones are still on. this year there is no Octoberfest for me. But there is always next year. Still I got a Dirndl-Look for you and so have some of my readers.
Es ist spät im Oktober und das Münchener Oktoberfest lange vorbei. Viele kleinere finden noch an allerlei Orten statt. Dieses Jahr gibt es für mich kein Oktoberfest. trotzdem habe ich noch einen Dirndl-Look für euch. Nicht nur ich, sondern auch einige meiner Leserinnen.

Ohne etwas Glitzer wäre das Leben langweilig. Das hier ist Jes Si und ihr Look ist mehr hier und jetzt. mit einer Statementkette.

Last one in the row and to round off the selection is Sar HA. Hers is a sweet and very down to earth dirndl. A real country dress, that wouldn’t look out of place on a meadow. Note to self – get one of those eventually, too.
Zum Schluss und um die Auswahl abzurunden kommt Sar HA. Ihres ist ein süsses und bodenständiges Dirndl. Ein echtes Landkleid, dass auch auf eine Wiese passt. Notiz an mich selber – ich will auch so eines.

Back to me and my mix and match Dirndl. I don’t like the typical dirndl blouses and I don’t do aprons.
Zurück zu mir mit meinem Trachten-Outfit.Ich mag die klassischen Dindlblusen nicht sehr und ich trage keine Schürzen. Punkt.

T’as de beaux yeux, tu sais! Bogart rencontre une randonnée en forêt. Parfait pour l’automne. Le trench c’est pour moi pas seulement une pièce classique. Mais il me souvient aussi aux détectives du film noir. À Humphrey Bogart dans Casablanca ou le Faucon maltais.
Here is looking at you, kid! Bogart meets a walk in the woods. Perfect for autumn. The trench is for me not only a classic wardrobe staple, it reminds me of the detectives in the film noir. Of Bogart in Casablanca or the Maltese Falcon.

Le trench est assez grand pour aussi porter un blazer au-dessous. Ce n’est pas mal parce que c’est un peu léger. La jupe est super pour mes robes rockabilly et pour le velo.
This trench is big enough to wear a blazer underneath. And that isn’t a bad thing as it is a bit light. The skirt is wide enough for my rockabilly dresses and the bike.
