Ü30 Blogger & Friends: Lieblingscocktail(s) – Favorite Cocktails

When the theme for this month ü30 blogparade was set I knew instantly what I’d wear with it. The question about my favourite cocktail is a bit trickier and goes beyond shaken or stirred. Like so often in life it depends on location.

In a good bar I like to try something new. Or an old love from my teens: the minty after-dinner-cocktail Grasshopper. In most places (and recipes) the peppermint flavour is too strong. I don’t need a mouthwash in a bar. At home I like to replace the cream with vanilla ice and only take half of the mint liqueur recommended elsewhere.

Steph’s Grasshopper
4 cl Crème de Cacao ( white clear chocolate liqeur / weisser , klarer Kakaolikör)
2 cl Crème de Menthe (green / grün)
4 cl cream / Sahne or Vanilla Ice cream / Vanilleeis
Shake in a mixer with ice cubes and strain into a chilled glass. Use a blender to mix it with vanilla ice and when following the recipe like to whip the cream first.

The Picture was taken with a dark Crème de Cacao – tastes as fine but the colour is not as pretty and clear. With an extra bit of vanilla ice.

At home and in summer I love a Mojito. However on my balcony I prefer to serve a dark Mojito. I replace the rum with a brown rum und the brown sogar with muscovado sugar. The muscovado has a distinctive almost nutty caramelly flavour that really supports the limes. For me it replaces a string quartet with a full symphonic orchestra.

MissKittenheel‘ s Mojito
1  Lime / Limette
2 twigs of mint / Stiele Minze
1–2 TL muscovado sugar / Muscovado Zucker
4 cl dark or brown rum / dunkler oder brauner Rum
Crushed Ice
4-8 cl sparkling water / Sodawasser
Quater limes and muddle with the sugar. Add mint and give it a nudge. Add crushed ice and top up with the soda. Decoration is a twig of mint plus a straw to stir.

When I go out for lowkey cocktails I quite often start with a Piña Colada followed by one or more Long Island Iced Teas. Both drinks are rather simple to make and hide it quite well if cheap liqueur is involved.

The outfit is a 1960s inspiration. Somewhere between Mad Men on vacation and my tribute to Doris Day.
Der Look ist eine Anlehnung an die 1960ger. Irgendwo zwischen Mad Men im Urlaub und einer Hommage an Doris Day.

Riviera Dreams: Pink Gingham

I am a very visual person. Not just visible but also visual. For me on most days the world is a veritable feast for my eyes. Imagine the day I really discovered Instagram.

It had me drooling for days. So much to explore. Sunsets of the world, droolworty food, the cutest cats and awesome fashion. I was hooked. So much perfection. And I was a part of that. Little by little I got disenchanted.
So viel Perfektion.

We live in interesting times. Many signs indicate a prefascist phase. The wording in politics has changed. Out there too. Racism is on the rise. Our society is drifting apart. I still enjoy my blog. And I hope to inspire some of you to live your thing. But Instagram is a little too much like Marie „Let them eat Cake“ Antoinette. It is the perfumed sheep of today.

I sometimes despair about the attention a picture of a cup of coffee gets over political news. That dresses on sale ( or football, bands, etc.) seem for so many way more interesting than what happens to our society. To the peaceful idea of Europe. And yes, my timeline is very, very mixed. In political views as well as in general interests.

The inspiration for this outfit is Brigitte Bardot’s pink gingham wedding dress. Back when she was a pretty face. A sex symbol. A style icon. Not the woman brought to court for blatant racism and tried for sedition. Not the stern supporter of the French right extremist party Front National.

Fashion and politics are part of of the same world. It is politics that defines the price of an item. Raw materials, trade contracts, working conditions are all defining factors – clothing isn’t made from pixie dust.

Enough of my rant – pink gingham is happy and carefree. This dress is woven in a very lightweight cotton. Lined in thin cotton, too. Perfect for scorching days. For an endless summer like this one.

It is once more the 16th of the month and time for the French Curves Fashion Challenge. After a weekend in the (very green) middle of nowhere in Wales. At 18C. With soft rain. This challenge feels a little odd. I already had a taste of autumn. My outfit however is for a trip to the pool or beach.

My mother doesn’t like it when I wear shorts. For her I created the second look – from the beach to the restaurant. The green of the playsuit looks ace with last years swimming costume.

This summer I started to wear shorts outside. And what can I say? Small children didn’t cry in terror. As far as I can tell I caused to accidents in the streets. Most people just didn’t care. The world didn’t stop turning. Don’t let your fear win!

On the Go: Riviera Dreams – Casual Lemons

Summer time and it has been a blazing summer so far. August is themed Riviera Dreams. Looks for the Cote d’Azur. Vacation fun at the Mediteranean Sea. Like my favourite Summer Look for the German Curves or from the same trip the last rose of Summer.

Yellow is a summery colour and very summery are the happy lemons on my scarf, too.
The lemon scarf had its debut on my blog for the French Curves in an (not) all white outfit and last year I showed off my lovely lemon dress. I do have a soft spot for fuity patterns. Especially lemons and cherries.

The hat is from 1990. I bought that one in England. It is a classical boater and I am its first owner.

The pretty raffia handbag is from the 50s or 60s: bought at Fräulein Anders in Berlin. Had the scarf for a while.

The vintage coin bracelet s from a similar era. Ok, so these are Venetian souvenir coins. Unfortunately we sold my Gran’s golden coin bracelet a „few“ years ago. But back then I never thought I’d wear something like that.

I think that is a perfect outfit to enjoy an ice cream. And since some of you always wonder – I don’t wear a strapless or multibra underneath. Just a regular one. I just push the straps down a bit.

Maritime Fun: Casual Friday

Ahoy July – welcome to a month of looks inspired by the sea and shore, sailors and landlubbers alike. Something for the beach, the boat, a day around the harbour or just to sooth the longing for the coast or open waters.

Summer and maritime looks go hand in hand and each year we see the revival of a theme that never really dies. In my office more or less every day is Casual Friday. Actually that is the case in most offices in landscape architecture.

I have shown this dress before for an alpine style – and it is quite versatile with its red and white houndstooth pattern. The pale blue blouse, bag and ballerinas push toward a maritime colouring. It is a variation of my crispy seaside look.

The accessories make the look really keel over: earrings with tiny boats, the stripey anchor necklace, new and old brooches and the true vintage scarf from the 60s or 70s with the sleek sailboats (and seagulls) as well as the (mock?) coral bracelet.
Koralle.

Tropical Delight – Jumpsuit with Culotte

Never say never. Part two of tropical and excotic delights in which I not only wear a jumpsuit, but one with culottes. Lo and behold. It is probably not my most flattering ganrment. The cleavage is on the border of indecent. Modest me things possibly on the wrong side of it. But hang it, it’s fun!
Man sollte niemals nie sagen.

The cheerful necklace and the melon bag have a whiff of the fabulous entertainer Carmen Miranda. I am gutted – at the end of last summer I bought some banana earrings and I just couldn’t find them. They would have been an excellent addition to this fruity look, too. Gnahhh!
Gnahhh!

You kind of wonder on what substances they were on when they came up with that number…

Here, there was only a double espresso.

Until 15 years ago almost all my cool clothing came from H+M. In the last years I struggled to find things in their plus size range that didn’t bore me to tears or I found even outright hideous. And suddenly I saw this jumpsuit while looking for something else.

A clear case of love on first sight. Clean lines and still a ruffle. This jumpsuit screams for a proper party. Somewhere in the urban jungle of life. Preferably on a rooftop. With Cocktails. Sex and the City style.
Sex and the City style.

On the Go: Sushi Kitten Bag meets Sakura Dress

My new handbag meets one of my favourite dresses – and the Anna Scholz dress has been around on this blog a few times. This time the Cheongsam-style dress is paired up with an orange/ coral boden cropped cardigan. Spring is close by – as you can see with the pale blush scarf and beret.

The cheongsam was considered in the 1930s a dress of empowerment for women, fo rmore freedom. I love the modern, stretchy material and the very pretty pattern. And it goes so well with the colours of the Vendula handbag.

Sadie from SadiesFab50Style introduced me to that label – of which she has a fine collection. I just hit it off with the sushi bag. And I looooooove sushi. And I love the details. The little fish in the bin. The marquee with the different kinds of delectable fish rolls. The happy cats.

Matching the cats on the bag are the kitty heels and the brooch on the cardi.

It is the 16th of the month and it’s time for the French Curves. Today we show Star Styles. Since live my vintage inspired chose style I chose this time an icon  of the early 60s: Doris Day. Last august for the German Curves I picked Dita von Teese.

The bubbly blonde was the star of films like lover come back and many other romantic comedies. When I was a little girl she really impressed me. Always the perfect outfit. Extraordinary hearts. And she lived her own life.

In lover come back she wears these smart suits – simple and very glamorous. Sometimes with brooches, almost always with gloves. Day is absolutely fabulous when she pulls off her assorted beehive hats.

On the Go: GeekStyle – Day of the Dachshund

Last installment for this month’s theme #GeekStyle – it’s the day of the Dachshund. It is my kind of animal print – yes, with actual animals on it. Last time you saw the shirt on this blog was in september 2015 for a round of Oktoberfest Craze. Which is strange as I wear it quite regulary.

I got brooch Spiffy the sausage dog in the same year for Christmas. It doesn’t get as much mileage as I thought it would but I still love the silly little Erstwilder brooch.

This is a look I wear to the office. A bit preppy, a bit excentric. I’d even wear that to a casual planning meeting with my favorite architects. The black bag is my staple handbag for meetings and have worn it to all my job interviews.
