ü30 Blogger: Wild Thing does Halloween

A blogger theme like Wild Things is usually associated with animal prints. Now my kind of animal print varies quite significantly from the general idea. But I have done leopard acessories before – among others like with the French Curves or later as an Hommage to the fabulous Dita von Teese for the German Curves. But Halloween is next Saturday and I thought it would be fun to combine the wild with the spooky in non-kinky grown-up outfits.

Eine Blog-Parade wie Wild Thing verbindet man meistens mit (Raub-) Tierprints. Meine Art Tierdrucke unterscheiden sich erheblich davon – mein Gastbeitrag dazu von 2016 ist nur auf English – aber Bilder gehen eigentlich immer. Leo-Accessoires habe ich aber gelegentlich schon gezeigt, wie hier bei den French Curves oder als Hommage für die glamouröse Dita von Teese für die German Curves. Trotzdem, nächsten Samstag ist Halloween und ich verbinde mal das wilde mit dem gruseligem in zwei erwachsenen Looks, die kein billiges Kostüm sind.

(No) Kiss from the Spider Woman – the „scary“ wild animals we encounter regulary are spiders. Fortunately most are much smaller than my rheinstone brooch and even smaller than the printed ones on my tights. This is the third time this dress is on my blog – and all in one year – last time was in July.

(Kein) Kuss der Spinnenfrau – Spiinen gehören definitiv zu den „angsteinflössenden“ wilden Tieren denen wir im Alltag begegnen. Zum Glück sind die aber mistens wesentlich kleiner als meine Strassbrosche und auch als die Spinnen auf meiner Strumpfhose. Das ist schon das dritte Mal das diese Kleid auf meinem Blog erscheint – und das sogar im gleichen Jahr – das letzte Mal im Juli.

Respiratory rehab life: serious relaxation after the fotoshooting and not really time to get changed – so I went on to the lovely waterbed massage in full Miss Kittenheel style.

Reha-Leben in der Lungen-Klinik: Entspannung nach dem „Fototermin“ und keine Zeit sich umzuziehen – also ging es auf die wunderbare Wasserbett-Massage im vollen Miss Kittenheel-Look.

Such a fun pattern! Fabulously non-itching and not really in your face. You can pull off a rather moderate look that is still doable in most offices.

Das Muster macht Spass! Fabelhaft nicht-kratzend und es springt einen auch nicht an. Damit kann es auch mal in viele Büros gehen.

By the way – here in the respiratory clinic EVERYONE wears masks. Even the people wheeling their oxygen along with them. So if WE ALL CAN – it shoudn’t be that much of a challenge for the rest out there!

Nur mal so in eigener Sache: hier in der Lungenklinik muss JEDER eine Maske tragen. Auch die Patienten, die ihren Sauerstoff hinter sich her ziehen. Also wenn WIR ALLE DAS KÖNNEN sollte das da draussen eigentlich nicht so schwierig sein!

Friday night I went on a solitary ramble through the dark woods – with my yet outside untested head lamp. It was a bit of an unvoluntary adventure – pick your routes wisely.

Freitag Nacht habe ich einen Waldspaziergang mit meiner noc ungetesten Stirnlampe gemacht – das war etwas abenteuerlicher als erwartet – es empfiehlt sich so eine Route vorher auszukundschaften.

On my way into the woods I encountered a wonderfully spooky lost place – at least in the dimming light. A closed up part of one of the spa resorts here. It looks like it is ripe for the odd haunting.

Auf dem Weg in den Wald habe ich diesen zumindest in der Dämmerung schaurig-schönen Verlassenen Ort gesehen. Ein verlassener Teil einer benachbarten Kurklinik. Das bietet doch sicherlich Platz für den ein oder anderen Geist.

Poisenous Pumpkin – I love the colour orange and pumpkins. The heels come across a bit more reddish than they actually are. In case if you think that dess looks familiar – I got it in grey, too.

Der giftige Kürbis – ich liebe Orange und Kürbisse sind auch grossartig. Die Schuhe kommen etwas rötlicher rüber als sie es eigentlich sind. Falls euch das Kleid irgendwie bekannt vorkommt – ich habe das auch in grau!

The pumpkin brooch is new – the vintage skulls are deadstock from the 50s or 60s.

Die Kürbisbrosche ist neu – die Totenkopfbroschen sind Neuware (oder Ladenhüter) aus den 1950ger oder 1960ger Jahren.

A gold lame evening bag and 2 coin purses – almost but not quite matching. But I can get my mobile inside, plus keys,a lipstick, my asthma spray, id and debit/ credit cards plus some money.

Eine Goldlamé-Tasche mit zwei kleinen Portemonaies – fast ein Set, aber nur fast. Aber ich bekomme da mein Handy, meine Schlüssel, Perso und EC-Karte, Lipenstift, Asthmaspray und auch etwas Geld hinein.

There are a few Halloween themes for my FitBit watch, too – though I only tested one. Super cute but I struggled to read the the heart rate and other small printed stats.

Es gibt sogar einige Halloween-Zifferblätter für meine FitBit Uhr – auch wenn ich nur eines getestet habe. Total hübsch, aber leider hatte ich Probleme die kleinen Werte für Herzschlag und Schritte lesen zu können.

As we are not really surprisingly amidst the second wave of corona masks will become (or stay) quite the accessory for this year and likely the next (two). So treat them like an accessory and play with patters, materials and colours.

Wenig überraschend befinden wir uns gerade in der zweiten Corona-Welle und Masken werden (oder bleiben) das Accessoire des Jahres und wahrscheinlich auch des nächsten (oder der beiden nächsten). Es wird Zeit sie wie ein notwendiges Accessoire zu behandeln und mit Farben, Mustern und Materialien zu spielen.

Herbstzauber – Autumn Vibes

Hello from the idyllic black forest. Home of the cuckoo clocks and black forest gateau. Autumn is glorious and golden here – even on gloomy days. Last year’s big thing the Hellbunny Oktober dress is spot on for that.

Hallo aus dem idyllischen Schwarzwald. Bekannt als Heimat der Kuckucksuhren und der Schwarzwälderkirsch-Torte. Der Herbst ist wunderschön und golden hier – auch an trüben Tagen. Dazu passt das Kleid vom Vorjahr von Hellbunny perfekt.

As said before I am currently in respiratory rehab. My fatigue is finally leaving me, I no longer struggle to breathe and stopped coughing – even under stress or while engaging in physical acitivities. Dress code at the clinik is very low key. Leisure wear rules.
Let’s agree – stylewise I don’t fit in all the time. But most reactions are friendly.

Wie schon in meinem letzten Blogpost gesagt, befinde ich mich momentan in der Reha wegen meiner Atemwegsinfektion vom April. Meine Fatigue – das sind die Erschöpfungszustände gehen gerade massiv zurück, ich leide nicht mehr an Atemnot und habe aufgehört auch unter Belastung ständig zu husten. Wie in solchen Einrichtungen üblich wird hier Freizeitkleidung hoch aufgehängt. Das mache ich auch tagsüber zu den Anwendungen. Aber halt nicht unbedingt den ganzen Tag. Aber die Reaktionen sind sehr positiv.

So yes – I wear a 50s forest souvenir brooch to the fake fox scarf AND a stag necklace. Yes, I might be overdoing the forest theme a bit.

Ja – das volle Programm: eine Wald-Andenkenbrosche aus den 50ger Jahren zum falschen Fuchsschal UND einen Hirschanhänger. Wenn schon, dann richtig.

I bought those fun mock-hiking shoes with a 2 inch heel second hand and the seller shipped them to the clinic. So here they are. Out and about. I looooove stomping through the fallen leaves – but to be fair that is more fun with boots.

Ich habe diese netten Pseudo-Wanderschuhe mit dem 5cm Absatz vor ein paar Tagen erkreiselt und die Verkäuferin hat die direkt in die Reha-Einrichtung geschickt. Hier passen die gut hin. Ich war mit denen auch schon unterwegs. Ich liebe es durch das gefallende Laub zu stapfen – auch wenn dafür Stiefel besser geeignet sind.

The views from the short round from the clinic are amazing.I bought a cuckoo clock fridge magnet – I found the quaint 1950s cuckoo clock brooch quite a few years ago on ebay. To monitor my sleep, excercise and as a reminder for my appointments I got myself a Fitbit versa3 (with GPS) and I am quite impressed. Currently #derUhr and I are trying to get used to each other.

Die Aussicht von der kleinen Runde ist schon grossartig. Ich habe mir hier einen Kuckucksuhr-Kühlschrank-Magneten gekauft. Die 1950ger Jahre Kuckucksuhrbrosche aus St. Peter habe ich schon seit vielen Jahren und trage die gerne zu Dirndl und co. Zur Überwachung meines Schlafs, meiner täglichen Bewegung und zur Erinnerung an Termine habe ich mir ein Fitbit versa3 Armband geholt und ich bin sehr beeindruckt. Momentan müssen #der Uhr und ich uns aber noch aneinander gewöhnen.

So here is me in leisure wear. The Blue Lady – not by to be confused with the famous painting by Thomas Gainsborough. Though I’d actually prefer to have to wear a rococo outfit. The adorable pansies are by Frollein von Sofa. She currenty adorns beanies and headbands with them. Like the velour suit the sneakers are brand new.

Und so laufe ich jetzt ziemlich oft tagsüber herum. DIe Dame in Blau – nicht zu verwechseln mit dem bekannten Bild von Thomas Gainsborough. Allerding wenn ich ehrlich bin sagt mir ein Rokoko-Outfit mehr zu. Die wunderschönen Stiefmütterchen sind von Frollein von Sofa – sie verziert damit momentan u.a. Mützen und Haarreife. Wie auch der Nickianzug sind die Turnschuhe niegelnagel neu.

Trailblazer
Some of you might remember my hiking outfit from 2016 – quite similar, though the pants are sadly one size up. But I am having fun outdoors agein. The first few times after my rambles I almost cried because I was so happy and overwhelmed. It is great to be able to walk again without looking for the next bench!

Waldläufer
Einige von euch erinnern sich vielleicht noch an mein Wanderoutfit von 2016 – das hier geht wenig überraschend in die gleiche Richtung – auch wenn die Hosen eine Nummer grösser sind. Aber ich habe wieder Spass da draussen. Nach den ersten Malen habe ich fast vor Freude geheult. Es ist toll nicht mehr ständig nach der nächsten Bank Ausschau zu halten!

Special Tights – Downtown Ladylike

Hello – and byebye from Bochum for a while. I am off to respiratory rehab. I had a nasty virus in April and have been pretty poorly for months. So now I am frollicing around in the lovely Black Forest. You might remember my post from September with the pompom fascinator? Well, now I am on their turf as well as in Black Forest Gateau country. But more of this in one of my next blogposts!

Hallo – und tschüss aus Bochum. Zumindest für einige Zeit. Ich bin wegen meiner Atemwegserkrankung in der Reha. Der fiese Virus und seine Überbleibsel, die mich seit April im Griff haben, hat mir einen Reha (früher Kur) Aufenthalt im Schwarzwald beschert. Genau – in die Heimat der Bollenhüte – der kleine Fascinator vom September ist auch mit dabei. Natürlich muss ich noch rausfinden wer denn hier die „beschte“ Schwarzwälderkirsch-Torte macht. Aber davon demnächst mehr!

So here I am back in Bochum. The place I learned to love and called home for the last 12 years. I am an urbanite. Occasionally I quite like being in the sticks – but not forever. I prefer cities.

Hier noch einmal in Bochum. Klammheimlich habe ich diese Stadt in den letzen 12 Jahren lieben gelernt und ich habe tatsächlich Wurzeln geschlagen. Ausflüge aufs Land finde ich ganz reizvoll – aber ich bin und bleibe eine Großstadtpflanze.

I love patterned tights – last year around Christmas time I discovered the ones from Pamela Mann – like with the Japanese flowers. I like the edge it gives the very Jackie Kennedy suit.

Ich liebe gemusterte Strumpfhosen – letztes Jahr um Weihnachten herum habe ich die von Pamela Mann entdeckt – wie die mit dem japanischen Blumenmuster. Ich mag den Bruch zum klassischen Jackie Kennedy Kostüm.

I actually get a little bit homesick when I see this – though having a saline pool inhouse is a very cool thing. And don’t laugh I went there for a swim at 7am. IN THE MORNING. Even with getting up for it and not seeing it from the other end.

Ich bekomme tatsächlich etwas Heimweh bei dem Anblick – aber so ein Sole-Heilbad im Haus ist eine extrem feine Sache. Und nicht lachen – ich war heute morgen sogar um 7 Uhr schwimmen. MORGENS – mit dafür aufstehen und nicht am Ende einer langen Nacht.

And no more burger-fridays with a friend until mid November. But there are freshly chopped carrot sticks among other things on the breakfast platters. I could get used to that. If someone else does the early morning chopping.

Bis Mitte November geht auch nicht mehr mit einem guten Freund Burger essen. Aber dafür gibt es hier frisch geschnittene Möhrensticks neben anderen Dingen zur Auswahl beim Frühstück. Daran könnte ich mich gewöhnen – zumindest solange jemand anders zu früher Stunde schnippelt.

This is the more casual look. More appropriate for eating out where we do. Still hopelessly overdressed for the pulmonary clinic. But that is why that look stayed home.

Das ist die entspanntere Variante. Passt besser dahin, zumindest wo wir hingehen. Immer noch zu viel für die Lungenklinik. Aber deswegen musste das Outfit auch zuhause bleiben.

Garden Kitsch – Foxes in Fall

I do love autumn, tweeds and kitschy accessories. Today you get them all in one post. The pants have been earlier this year on the blog.

Ich liebe den Herbst, Tweed und kitschige Accessoires. Heute bekommt ihr all das in einem Post. Die Hose war Anfang des Jahres schon einmal auf dem Blog.

When I saw the tie online I knew I had to have it. The pattern says chairman of a 1970s allotment garden club – although that would have been way to casual for that.

Als ich die Krawatte bei Kleiderkreisel sah, musste ich die unbedingt haben. Das Muster erinnert mich an etwas das ein Vorsitzender eines 1970ger Jahre Kleingartenvereins zur Jahreshauptversammlung getragen hätte – nur wäre das zu informell gewesen.

The alpine print bag is fun – very Heidi or Hansel and Gretel. Bit like a kiddie lunch box.

Die Tasche mit dem aufgedrucktem Alpenidyll ist zuckersüss und erinnert mich an eine kitschige Brotdose.

In case you wonder – the mask is made of the fabric of the shortened legs from the tweedy pants. It is lined with a simple cotton cloth.

Falls ihr euch wundert – die Maske ist aus dem Stoff der gekürzten „Tweed“-Hose, abgefüttert mit einem einfachen Baumwollstoff.

Oktoberfest Craze – Schwarzwälder Kitsch

Welcome to Blackforest Kitsch – as we have established before a good dirndl doesn’t come cheap – this is a cheap and cheerhul vintage style satin dress from Shein. Even up to quite close it looks really good. Not a whiff of carnival. The material feels a bit cheap but for cheap polyester it stays blissfully odour neutral.

Willkommen zum Schwarzwälder Kitsch – wie schon häufiger festgestellt ein gutes Dirndl ist nicht billig – das hier ist ein preiswertes Satinkleid von Shein im Retro-Look. Bis auf relativ nah dran sieht das Kleid ziemlich gut aus. So gar nicht nach Karneval. Das Material fühlt sich nicht sehr wertig an – zum Glück bleibt es für Polyester in der Preisklasse erfreulich geruchsneutral.

Traditional Accessories – a Russian folkore silk mix scarf, a velvet bag, a dirndl blouse and the fascinator give this vintage dress distinctive country vibes.

Trachten-Accessoires – ein russisches Folkloretuch aus einem Seidenmix, eine kleine Samttasche, die Dirndlbluse und der Faszinator geben dem Kleid einen klaren Landhaus-Look.

Contemporary but Fun – with the cool pink retro jelly bag and the self cropped denim jacket.

Trachtenkleid im Hier und Jetzt – mit der rosa Jellytasche und der kurzen Jeansjacke.

This fascinator is a thing I wanted to do for a very long time It is a mini version of the black forest classical Bollenhut (pompom hat). As I am yet unmarried I am still entitled to wear the red pompoms.

Der Faszinator ist ein Projekt, das ich schon sehr, sehr lange umsetzen wollte – bis ich die richtigen Pompoms gefunden hatte. Es ist eine Miniversion des klassischen Bollenhuts. Da ich immer noch unverheiratet bin, darf ich noch die roten tragen.

This is the traditional Bollenhut (the link is in German but you can let the page be translated). It weighs around 4 pounds. The red pompons are reserved for unmarried ladies – married ladies and widows wear black ones.

Das hier ist der traditionelle Bollenhut. Der wiegt ca. 2 Kilogramm. Die roten Bollen sind unverheirateten Frauen vorbehalten – verheiratete und Witwen tragen die in Schwarz.

Bollenhut Fascinator – this is my variation 6 small pompoms on a straw base with a black velvet trim and handmade bow.

Bollenhut Fascinator – das ist meine Version mit nur 6 kleinen Woll-Pompoms auf einer hellen Strohunterlage, eingefasst mit einem schwarzen Samtband und einer selbstgemachten Schleife.

More Details – the stripey rose pattern is a classic with bavarian or alpine inspired clothing. The big cabbage roses from the Russian scarf pick that up as well as the vintage petit point bracelet and the original 1950s souvenir brooch mirrors the green of the scarf and the green velvet handbag.

Detailverliebt – der gestreifte Satinstoff mit den Rosen ist ein Klassiker bei alpiner oder ländlichen Stoffen. Die Kohlrosen des russischen Folkloretuchs greifen das ebenso wie das Petit-Point oder Gobelin Armband auf. Passend zum grün des Tuches ist die kleine original 1950ger Andenkenbrosche.

The ginham pattern is another summer and country classic. The cherry necklace is vintage styled but new.

Das Vichykaro ist nicht nur ein Sommer- sondern auch ein Trachten- und Landhaus Klassiker. Die KIrschkette ist zwar im Vintagestil – aber relativ neu.

The necklace is a reference to the famous black forest gateau!

Die Kette ist natürlich eine Referenz an die berühmte Schwarzwälder Kirsch Torte!

Ready to go out in town. The jelly bag is lined with a vintage satin scarf – it prevents that things all out and makes it look more tidy.

Alltagstauglich Ausgehfertig. Die rosa Jelly-Korbtasche ist mit einem Vintage Satintuch ausgelegt – so fällt nichts raus und sieht ordentlicher aus.

Heimatliebe – Geek Chic Dirndl Style

Shortly after the begin of the German lockdown in the corona crisis the quirky Frollein von Sofa produced a number of stunningly beautiful floral headbands. I just had to have the yellow and soft pink one and knew it would be a great addition to my  Oktoberfest Craze looks. The yellow outfit was made around it. This is the geeky approach to dirndls. Enjoy!

Kurz nach dem Lockdown in der Corona-Krise hat die wunderbar kreative Frollein von Sofa eine Reihe wunderschöner Blumen-Haarreifen hergestellt. Ich habe mich in den gelb-rosanen Herbst-Haarreif verliebt. Der Trachtenlook aus der Reihe Heimatliebe ist eigens dafür zusammengestellt. Viel Spass damit!

Most people interpret dirndls without a lot of humor. Since this is the geeky edition you get cats, too. Comics – with the pow clutch in the mustard outfit and the mint green comic styled cat patterned skirt.

Die meisten kombinieren Dirndl relativ humorbefreit. Da das hier hier Nerd-Ausgabe ist, gibt es Comics und natürlich auch Katzen. Comivs mit der gelb-pinken „Pow“-Clutch und Katzen im mintgrün gemusterten Rock.

I like dindls that are a bit different – two years ago I combined my red corsage with my beautiful African Ibiloba wax skirt.

Ich mag Dirndl, die etwas aus der Reihe tanzen – vor zwei Jahren habe ich mein rotes Trachtenmieder mit meinem wunderschönen afrikanischen Ibiloba Wachsrock kombiniert.

This is a glamorous true vintage 1960s fake citrin brooch – it comes together with a matching pendant of the same size but without the bow.

Die glamouröse Brosche mit dem falschen Citrin ist aus den 1960gern – passnd ddazu geibt es einen gleich grossen Anhänger, nur ohne Schleife.

Meow – atomic kittens, cats and and fish combined with a Polish cabouchon bracelet.You might remember it from a set earlier this year.

Miau – 1050ger „Atomic“ grafische Katzen, Kätzchen und Fische kombiniert mit einem polnischen Folklorearmband. Vielleicht erinnert ihr euch noch an den Beitrag von Anfang des Jahres.

The bracelet was a necklace. Didn’t wear it and then I saw something similar on Etsy.

Das Armband war eigentlich mal ein Collier. Ich hatte die Kette aber nie getragen und irgendwann sowas auf Etsy gesehen.

Roses, golden apples, blossoms and dried hydrangeas make this beatiful headband.

Rosen, goldene Äpfelchen, Blüten und getrocknete Hortensien sind Teil dieses wunderschönen Haarreifens.

Oktoberfest-Craze: Heimatliebe in Gingham

September is Dirndl time on my blog. An entire month to play with traditional or flokloristic clothing (and in Germany that usually means alpine) – time for Oktoberfest Craze. A proper dirndl is expensive – even a vintage or 2nd hand one. And the cheap ones look usually too much like fancy dress gone bad. But there are ways for a bit of that sound of music feel without a Dirndl.

September ist Dirndlzeit auf meinem Blog – Zeit für etwas Heimatliebe. Ein ganzer Monat um Trachten und Folklore auf meine Art zu interpretieren. Ein echtes Dirndl ist teuer – auch wenn es Secondhand oder Vintage ist. Und die preiswerten Neuen haben meist den Hauch der Verzweiflung und sehen schnell nach Karneval aus. Aber es gibt Optionen für dirndlfreie Landliebe.

Both dresses are simple gingham summer dresses. All cotton, cotton lined. Which is ace for day time events when it is still hot or balmy summer nights. And what I really like about these looks is you can wear most things whenever. It is the accessories that give it that country fair look.

Beide Kleider sind einfache Vichy-Karo-Kleider. Beide aus Baumwolle, mit Baumwolle gefüttert. Das ist toll für den Tragekomfort wen es im Frühherbst noch richtig heiss ist und auch in den letzen lauen Sommernächten.Was mir an beiden Outfits sehr gut gefällt ist dass die meisten Sachen jederzeit getragen werden können. Es sind die Accessoires die den Looks ihren ländlichen Charme geben.

A flower crown or headband and flokloristic or souvenir jewelry add a pastoral twist to this dress that can also we worn as a tribute to nostalgic ideas of a French summer.

Ein Blumenkranz und folkloristischer oder kitschiger Andenken-Schmuck und wir sind bereit für eine Landpartie. Das Kleid war schon mal als Reminiszenz an französische Sommeridyllen auf dem Blog.

Country Charme with Vintage Jewelry – a (plastic) Edelweiss bracelet, a souvenir and an enamel brooch plus a dainty enamel necklace.

Heimatliebe mit altem Schmuck – ein (Plastik)-Edelweiss-Armband, eine alte Emaillebrosche und eine Andenkenbrosche aus den 1950ger und die zarte Eamaille-Halskette.

An apron instantly adds dirndl vibes.

Eine Schürze macht noch lange kein Dirndl – erinnert aber ungemein daran.

The apron is in an impeccable vintage condition – probalby from the 60s. Home sewn. The embroidered trim is industrialy produced. Still very pretty. Featuring edelweiss and gentian. The coarse linnen apron has pockets at the hem – large enough for beer bottles or as my mum sugested cloth pins. Priorities eh?

Die Schürze ist in einem makellosen Zustand, vermutlich aus den 1960gern. Selbstgenäht. Die Bordüre ist industriell gefertigt. Trotzdem sehr hübsch. Bestickt mit Edelweiss und Enzian. Die grobe Leinenschürze hat unten am Saum geräumige Taschen – perfekt für Bierflaschen – oder wie meine Mutter meint für Wäscheklammern. So setzt halt jeder andere Schwerpunkte.

I love flower crowns – they are so carefree and happy.

Ich liebe Blumenkränze – die sind so unbeschwert und machen direkt gute Laune.

The tapestry bag is a staple for traditional looks. I have two – this one with a black base and another one in cream or beige. It has a good size too without feeling you are dragging half the things you own along.

Die Gobelintasche passt perfekt zu solchen Looks. Ich habe zwei davon – die hier mit dem schwarzen Untergrund und noch eine in beige/creme. Die Grösse ist auch schön – es passt ordentlich was rein – aber nicht der gesamte Hausstand.

Definitfely new(ish) – the quirky UK brand Irregular Choice melts traditional embroidery with a modern twist and still it looks spot on folksy.

Ganz klar neu – das verspielte englische Label Irregular Choie verschmilzt hier traditionelle Stickerei mit einem modernen Touch und doch eine Punktlandung für Trachten und Folklorelooks.

Those pics in the yellow dress were taken 2 years ago – shortly before my parents moved out of their old house. The roses were gorgeous. But it is time to move on when all you see is work and can’t enjoy it anymore.

Die Bilder im gelben KLeid wurden vor zwei Jahren aufgenommen – kurz bevor meine Eltern aus ihrem alten Haus ausgezogen sind. Die Rosen waren wunderbar. Aber es ist Zeit sich zu verändern, wenn man nur noch die Arbeit sieht und nicht mehr wie schön es ist.

The only roses in by inner city courtyard are the ones on my shoes – it i quite green in the other corners but no abundance of fragrant old fashioned climbing roses.

Die einzigen Rosen in meinem städtischen Innenhof sind die auf meinen Schuhen. An den anderen Ecken ist der Hof sehr grün – aber leider ohne die Fülle duftender, altmodischer Kletterrosen.

Sherlock Holmes and my Mini-Deerstalker Hat

When I was 16 I fell in love with Sherlock Holmes. Partially there is Jeremy Brett to blame for this, him in the title role of the great Granada TV series. Though I was seriously fond of the stories long before that. At a time when my peers worshipped unreachable real life band members or actors I roamed in my fantasy life the streets of Victorian London and solved crimes with the Greatest Detective who never even lived

Mit 16 habe ich mich in Sherlock Holmes verliebt. Zum Teil ist daran Jermemy Brett in der Tiltelriolle der grossartigen Granada TV Serie Schuld gewesen. Aber halt nur zum Teil. Zum Teil weil ich die Geschichten schon immer geliebt habe. Zu einer Zeit wo meine Altersgenossinnen auf ebenfalls unerreichbare, aber sehr lebendige Musiker oder Schauspieler standen, habe ich meiner Fantasie Verbrecher mit Sherlock Holmes im viktorianischen London gejagt. Dem grössten Detektiv, der niemals lebte, wie es Enthusiasten so schön sagen.

Two to three years back I saw tihis boring and seriously tiny hat with a matching scarf on ebay. And I knew Ricarda Engelsberger from Mein wundderbarer Hutsalon was the hatmaker to turn it into something fun and me.

Vor zwei oder drei Jahren habe ich diesen sehr langweiligen und viel zu kleinen Tweed-Hut mit passendem Schal auf Ebay entdeckt. Und mir war klar – Ricarda Engelsberger von Mein wunderbarer Hutsalon ist die Modistin (Hutmacherin) die das knochenkonservative Teil in etwas mit Spass und Chic verwandeln kann.

Somehow the classic half or bandeau hat I wanted became a mini-deerstalker when we talked about how it could look. Ricarda made thge most terrific job. The little hat is soooo pretty. The detailing is to die for. The execution of that little bow in the back I wanted and the covered buttons are sublime. I can’t wait to wear it to the tweed ride in Breda in April.

Aus dem klassichen Bandeau- oder Halbhut wurde schon mit dem ersten Entwurf von Ricarda und meinen Vorgaben die kleine Jagdmütze. Ich war schon von den ersten Bildern total begeistert. Die Details, wie die Knöpfe und die kleine Schleife, die ich wollte sind einfach grossartig und hervorragend ausgeführt. Der Hut ist ein kleines Kunstwerk und wunderschön verarbeitet. Ich freue mich schon wahnsinnig darauf den in Breda zum Tweed Ride anzuziehen.

On the Go: Tartan Love

This was meant to be the November outfit for the French Curves (La Pluie – Rainy Day) – but I struggled this month. Currently I am counting the days till the end of the year. Whenever in the last few months I thought I sorted out one thing out, another thing emerges. Somehow blogging gets a little lost over that.

Fortunately we got Christmas coming up soon. And I LOVE Christmas. Also, I got a few outfits sorted for that! As well as a nice give-away. But for now it is big love with the pretty red Royal Stewart tartan – yes, the one I got in green, too.

On the Go: Autumn Colours – Mustard meets Plaid

Autumn is finally here! Talking about survival of the fittest –  the dress got extra pockets, the sleeves are taken in and the buttons are mostly closed for good. I think the waist is too high for my taste but it is nice to have a discreet dress.
Der Herbst ist da!  Zum Thema was nicht passt wird passend gemacht – das Kleid hat extra Taschen erhalten, die Ärmel wurden enger gemacht und die Knopfleiste weitgehend zugenäht. Mir ist die Taille etwas zu hoch für meinen Geschmack – aber es ist schön mal ein unauffälligeres Kleid zu haben.


My friendly, diligent and patient tailor also altered an old mink scarf into a collar. The collar is not permanently attaced to the dress. It is still easily washable.
Mein freundlicher, unermüdlicher und geduldiger Schneider hat dann auch aus einem alten Nerzschal einen Kragen gemacht. Der Kragen ist nur mit Sicherheitsnadeln ans Kleid gesteckt. Es ist also immer noch waschbar.

And an old favourite of mine from a German poem about the golden autumn and gilding it with wine:
