Wieder mal nähert sich der Valentinstag – Herzchen, Schokolade, Blumen – viel Rosa, Pink und Rot. Alles ganz romantisch. Ist nur bedingt mein Ding. In England fand ich das ganze Theater sehr absurd. So ganz anders als ein persönlicher Jahrestag, ob mit oder ohne Trauschein. Aber ganz ohne Liebe geht es nicht – wenn auch bei mir nicht mehr fristgerecht, weil ich seit Karnevalssonntag etwas schwächele.
Was lag näher als eine kleine Kooperation mit einem meiner Nachbarn – dem Biermuda. Die Ähnlichkeit zum angrenzenden Bermudadreieck, dem beliebtem Bochumer Ausgehquartier ist nicht zufällig.
Das Biermuda ist laut dem Pottblog, der das Revier recht gut kennt, der erste reine Craftbierladen im Ruhrgebiet. Und das direkt vor meiner Tür. Yayh! Craft Beer nennt man handwerklich gebraute Biere mit Schwerpunkt auf gute Rohstoffe und Rezepturen, kleine Produktionen, Handwerkskunst. Für Max Zellmer und sein Team ist Bier mehr als ein Getränk, es ist Leidenschaft. Hunderte Biersorten gibt im Biermuda, geplant sind bis zu 500 – von klassisch bis Kirsch, Hefeweizen und Schwarzbier, regional und aus aller Welt. Es gibt sogar regelmässige Bierverkostungen. Was zieht man dazu an?
Was mich immer stört ist wie klischeebeladen all die Blumen, Pralinen und die meisten anderen Geschenke zum Valentinstag sind – und halt meist für Frauen. Also hatte ich die Idee das Thema etwas anders zu interpretieren. Ich mag Bier. Die meisten meiner Freunde mögen Bier. Ich verschenke gerne Dinge über die sich andere freuen.

Once more Valentine’s Day is approaching – hearts, chocolate, flowers – lots of pink, rose and red. All terribly romantic. Not really my thing. In England I found the entire affair a bit absurd. So different from a personal anniversary, with or without a wedding band. But it’s hard to go on without a little love. Though I am a little late since I have been a bit under the weather since Sunday.
So what was literally closer than a cooperation with a cherished neighbour of mine – the Biermuda. Yes, it is indeed a pun on the Bermuda triangle around the corner, a very popular quarter for a night out. The Biermuda ist according to Pottblog, one of our local blogging institutions, the first shop entirely dedicated to craft beers in the region. Right in front of my doorstep, Yayh! Craft beers are usually small, traditional or special beers with a focus on good ingredients and recipes. For Max Zellmer and his Team beer is more than just a drink, it is passion. They got already hundreds of beers, planned are up to 500. Classic to cherry, whites and stouts, regional products and those from all over the world. There are regular beer tastings too. I wonder what to wear to one of them?
What riles me about Valentine’s Day are the majority of the cliché ridden presents, the flowers, chocolates – usually and traditionally for women. So I prefer a different angle. I like beer. Most of my friends like beer, a lot of them are Germans after all. I like to make presents that are enjoyed. So here is the beer to Valtenine’s Day – Love Beer.
