It still feels weird to blog about fashion today in the aftermath of the American election. The world seems to go to hell with a handbasket. Skipping. Throwing reason and facts alike over board. And most of us stand and watch in shock. Surprised. Aghast. Our society splits apart. In times when the acceptance of women, cultural diversity and alternative lifestyles is at an all time high.
Es fühlt sich schon heute etwas komisch an über Mode zu schreiben. Am Tag nach der US Wahl. Die Welt wird sich verändern. Wird unberechenbarer. Vernunft und Fakten für scheinen über Bord gegangen zu sein. Und die viele von uns fassen es nicht. Sind überrascht. Entsetzt. Unsere Gesellschaft driftet immer mehr auseinander. Und das gerade in einer Zeit wo die Akzeptanz von Frauen, kulturelle Vielfalt und alternative Lebensentwürfe noch nie so hoch war wie jetzt.
There are things most of us do and don’t. There is a lot of controversial discussion around various topics. Usually people burn more them than politics. Recently one of the most heated topics in one of the few Facebook groups I really follow was about (fake) fur. For me fur is one of my guilty pleasures. I don’t really like camouflage – I struggle with contemporary military looks in everyday life.
Es gibt Dinge die dir meisten von uns spalten. Kontroverse Diskussionen gibt es zuhauf. Meist brennen Leute dafür mehr als für Politik. Neulich ging eine der erhitztesten Diskussionen in einer Facebook Gruppe der ich folge um Pelz beziehungsweise Kunstpelz. Für mich ist Pelz eines dieser Dinge bei dem ich einen Hauch schlechten Gewissens habe. Camouflage oder moderne Militärlooks zum Beispiel mag ich gar nicht.
But fur feels glamorous. Decadent. Archaic. I am too much a child of the eighties though to fully approve of fur. But you don’t have to. There is fake fur. Most of it is actually polyester.
Der Pelz fühlt sich glamourös an. Dekadent. Archaisch. Ich bin vielleicht zu sehr ein Kind der achtziger Jahre um unbeschwert Pelz genießen zu können. Aber das muss man auch nicht. Es gibt auch Kunstpelz. Und der dem ich begegne ist aus Polyester.
But to be honest I don’t like fake fur that much. I prefer the real thing. And there is lots of it available in the vintage section. Coats, scarfs and hats to name a few. I have a few fur scarves. Mink in grey, blonde and brown. Mock leopard. A rabbit muff. Fur brooches.
Aber wenn ich ehrlich bin, mag ich Kunstpelz nicht sehr. Ich mag das echte. Und davon gibt es viel Secondhand. Vintage. Mäntel, Schals, Hüte, um nur ein paar Beispiele zu nennen. Ich habe einige Pelzschals. Nerz in grau, blond und braun. Falscher Leopard. Ein Muff aus Kaninchen. Pelzbroschen.
But there is another way to wear fur – reclaimed fur. From old or vintage items. Fur that already exists. That is dead for longer than I am alive. From its heydays in the 1950-1970s. Where everyone had to have a fur coat. Dead for 40-70 years. Still in excellent condition. More or less unworn. Kept for special occasions. Be that a hat or a jacket, the material can be salvaged. Upcycled. Turned into something new.
Aber es gibt noch einen anderen Weg Pelz zu tragen: aufgearbeiteten Pelz. Aus alten Beständen, Pelzjacken oder Mänteln. Pelz der schon da ist. Der länger tot ist als ich zum Beispiel lebe. Aus der Blütezeit der 1950ger bis 1970ger Jahre. Als man einfach einen Pelz haben musste. Tot seit 40-70 Jahren. Vieles noch in hervorragendem Zustand. Mehr oder minder ungetragen. Für besondere Gelegenheiten aufbewahrt. Egal ob Hut oder Jacke, das Material kann wieder verwendet werden. Upcycled. Etwas Neues entsteht.
I like to use vintage fur for my fascinators. Mostly from hats or caps. They share frumpiness and an unwearability. For me it is a pleasure to turn a dowdy grannies hat into something as luxurious as the material it is made from. Something flirty and fun.
Ich verwende gerne alten Pelz für meine Fascinators. Meist sind die aus alten Hüten oder Mützen. Sie haben gemein, dass sie altbacken und eigentlich untragbar sind. Es bereitet mir Freude aus einem trutschigen Omahut etwas zu machen, das so luxuriös ist wie das Material selber. Etwas neckisches, das Spaß macht.
This month my DIY your Closest project is a fur fascinator. Made from Persian lamb. Astrakhan. In grey. I got a matching scarf from the 1950s. The hat is younger. Probably from the late 1960s or even the 1970s. It feels strange to cut into a hat on hat is in prime condition. But as they say, you can’t make an omelette without breaking eggs. So I cut up the dowdy old thing and made a fascinator out of it.
Diesen Monat ist mein DIY Your Closet Projekt ein Pelzfascinator. Aus grauem Persianer, oder Karakul. Habe ich einen passenden Schal aus den fünfziger Jahren. Der Hut ist jünger. Wahrscheinlich aus den späten sechzigern oder sogar den siebziger Jahren. Es fühlt sich erst mal merkwürdig an in einen Hut hinein zu schneiden der in einem tadellosen Zustand ist. Aber gehobelt wird, da fallen Späne. Deswegen habe ich es auseinander geschnitten und einen Fascinator daraus gemacht.

I spent most of the evening in the delightful company of Susanne Ackstaller from Texterella. And both of us couldn’t be bothered to queue for a spot at the press wall. The nibbles in the break from Kochwerk were a treat. Especially the ones with beef filet, mango and a balsamic vinegar onion. Den Grossteil des Abends habe ich in der Gesellschaft von Susanne Ackstaller von Texterella verbracht. Irgendwie konnten wir uns nicht aufraffen uns für die Pressewand anzustellen. Die Häppchen in der Pause vom Kochwerk waren grossartig. Besonders die mit Rinderfilet, Mango und der Balsamicozwiebel.
The event was an excellent occasion to finally take my golden brocade coat out and about. It is from Lane Bryant. I got it on eBay and had the sleeves shortened to three quarters. To give it a more 1950s touch. The fur cuffs are reclaimed from a vintage scarf. The headband hat is a 1950s original. Its name is Wilson. After Tom Hank’s volleyball in Cast Away. Ein herrvorragender Anlass um meinen goldenen Brokatmantel endlich einmal auszuführen. Der Mantel ist von Lane Bryant. Ich habe ihn bei eBay gefunden und habe die Ärmel auf eine dreiviertel Länge kürzen lassen. So sieht er mehr aus wie ein Original aus den 1950ger Jahren. Die Manschetten sind aus einem alten Pelzschal gefertigt. Der Faszinator ist ein Haarbandhut aus den 1950gern. Er heisst Wilson. Nach dem Volleyball von Tom Hanks in Cast Away.
I would have loved to take Monty my dog handbag along. His storage capacity however is ridiculously tiny. The Italian velvet bag won hands down. Am liebsten hätte ich Monty, meine Hundehandtasche mitgenommen. Leider bietet er aber nur sehr wenig Stauraum. Die italienische Samthandtasche hat dann das Rennen gemacht.
The vintage tweed tie is tied as a pussy bow. I blame the pearls on watching too much of Downton Abbey. A touch of Dowager Duchess. Die Vintage-Krawatte ist zur Schleife gebunden. Wahrscheinlich ist eine Überdosis Downton Abbey für die Perlenkette verantwortlich. Ein Hauch Herzoginnenwitwe.

I guess I never travelled for so few days with so much luggage like this weekend. The destination were the Plussize Fashion Days by Kurvenrausch in Hamburg. 2016 was the fourth time for the event. Ich kann ich nicht daran erinnern für so wenige Tage schon mal soviel Gepäck mitgenommen zu haben. Das Ziel waren die Plussize Fashion Days von Kurvenrausch in Hamburg. 2016 war das vierte Event dieser Art.
A themed party, two days of shopping and a Fashion/ Award show. Lots of plussize bloggers and fashion savvy people present. You want to look your best for that. For the travel days I chose my Beth Ditto dress. The Lola in the lipstick print is quite flamboyant.
Eine Mottoparty, zwei Tage zu, shoppen und eine Modenschau mit Preisverleihung. Viele (Plussize) Blogger und modebewusste Frauen. Da will man glänzen. Für die Reisetage habe ich mich für mein Beth Ditto Kleid entschieden. Das Lola mit dem Lippenstiftdruck sticht immer hervor.

But first the new line got introduced. Slim fitted jeans are not really my thing. But I liked a denim carmen top and some floral crepe pants.
Zuerst wurde die neue Kollektion vorgestellt. Slimfit-Jeans sind nicht wirklich mein Ding. Gut gefallen haben mit ein Carmentop aus Jeans und eine Crêpe-Hose mit floralem Muster.

Two weeks ago I lost my heart to a small island in the North Sea. Wide beaches. Wonderful climate. A bit lost in time. Borkum ist the most Western of the German Frisian islands. And the largest. Vor zwei Wochen habe ich mich verliebt – in eine kleine Insel in der Nordsee. Weite Strände. Hochseeklima. Etwas in der Zeit stehen geblieben. Borkum ist die westlichste und grösste der Friesischen Inseln in Deutschland.
Autumn by the sea can be full of crisp air and sunshine. It can also be a miserable wet windswept affair. The parents and I were very lucky. The salty pure air balm for what remains from my whooping cough. Der Herbst an der See kann so schön sein mit einer steifen Briese, blauem Himmel und Sonnenschein. Verregnet und windig geht auch. Meine Eltern und ich hatten Glück. Die gute Luft war eine Wohltat für meinen abklingenden Keuchhusten.
I was still was weak as a kitten. So one of the things we did was take a bus tour over the tiny island. Great fun. Thanks to the dry wit of the bus driver. And what a bus! Built in 1951 by Mercedes. The year my mum was born. Shiny red and black from the outside. Inside upholstered with a brownish herringbone tweed. Like a lovely hunting jacket. Softly sprung seats. What a beauty. Ich war immer noch total schwach auf den Beinen. Deswegen haben wir dann auch die Inselrundfahrt gemacht. Das war spassig. Das lag aber auch am trockenen Humor unseres Busfahrers. Ohhh – und was für ein toller Bus. Der Nostalgiebus ist ein Mercedes von 1951. Dem Geburtsjahr meiner Mutter. Glänzendes Rot und Schwarz von aussen. Innen gepolstert mit einem braunbeigen Fischgrät-Tweed. Wie englisches Jackett. Weich gefederte Sitze. Wunderschön!
Vintage bus deserved a vintage look – and I usually dress that way anyway. A rare sight on the island. Matching the bus and the maritime surrounding I decided to go for my fair-isle sweater with a wiggle tartan skirt. The little suitcase used to be a beauty case. I think it makes a nice handbag for seminars too. Fits filing folders, too. Der Oldtimer-Bus hat sich natürlich auch ein passendes Outfit verdient. Für mich ist mein Retro-Look normal. Auf der Insel war es etwas ungewohnt. Passend zum Bus und dem maritimen Umfeld habe ich mich für meinen Bleistiftrock im hellen Schottenkaro entschieden. Der kleine Koffer ist ein Beauty Case aus den 60gern. Finde den auch toll für Seminare. DIN A4 geht auch rein.

Der Herbst ist da – und damit auch endlich die Zeit für Outfits mit Jacken und meine Art von Lieblingsstoffen und -materialien: Tweed, Brokat, Stickereien und nennen wir es Seidenstoffe. Autum came – and it is finally time for outfits with jackets and my favourite materials, like tweed, jaquard, embroidery and let’s call it silks. This one is artificial but stretchy. Wieder mal musste der Saum gekürzt werden. Die Reste waren nicht üppig – deswegen habe ich auch diesmal wieder wie letzten Monat beim HellBunny Fascinator den Stoff geschichtet. Once more the hem had to be taken in. The leftover from the hem wasn’t much – so I used the layering technique I usedlast month for the HellBunny fascinator.
Oben hui und unten – ähhhhh… einfach. Dieses Bild ist für Anja von EverydayBoudoir und diejenigen von euch, die sich fragen wie das Haarband hält. Ich benutze Haarbänder anstelle von Krokodilklemmen oder Kämmen. Mein Haar ist zu dünn dafür. Outside swank – inside rank (at least a dictionary gave me that translation). This pic is for Anja from EverydayBoudoir who wanted to know how it is attached. I use headbands instead of crocodile clasps or combs. My hair is too thin for those.
Kein Cheongsam – aber dafür wesentlich tragbarer. Mit dem Hemd drunter ein urbaner Look fürs Büro oder den Einkaufsbummel mit ein paar Cocktails am Ende des Tages. No Cheongsam – but more wearable. With the shirt underneath a look for the city, for the office or a shopping trip with some drinks at the end of the day.

Autumn is here – time to celebrate the season. A bit lady of the manor. A bit geeky. Since I spent way too much time at home on sick leave for my personal taste I watched every episode of Downton Abbey and the first season of Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries. I guess it rubbed off a little. Der Herbst ist da – Zeit die neue Jahreszeit zu begrüssen. Etwas englisches Landhaus. etwas geeky. Seit dem ich viel länger krankgeschrieben bin als mir lieb ist, habe ich jede Episode von Downton Abbey und die erste Staffel von Miss Fisher’s Muerder Mysteries gesehen.
Green velvet and jaquard mixed with a bit of kitsch. No shapewear today. It makes a difference. Grüner Samt und Brokat mit etwas Kitsch gemischt. Heute mal ohne Shapewear. Es macht leider einen Unterschied.
Berries, toadstools and an old souvenir brooch on a folded velvet base. I made this fascinator for my Hell Bunny Hermeline skirt. Beeren, Fliegenpilze und eine alte Andenkenbrosche auf einer Unterlage aus gefaltetem Samt. Diesen Fascinator habe ich für meinen Hell Bunny Hermeline Rock gemacht.
The mini doctor bag is vintage and I think I got it even before or shortly after I was twenty. I know I already have it fo rmore than twenty years. Die kleine Arzttasche ist Vintage und ich habe seit über 20 Jahren. Entweder vor oder nach meinem zwanzigsten Geburtstag – genau weiss ich das aber nicht mehr.
Auch wenn es mittlerweile recht nette Dirndl unter 150 EUR gibt, ist ein gutes Dirndl kein preiswerter Spass. Viele Gelegenheiten eines zu tragen haben (oder schaffen sich) viele von uns nicht. Deswegen ein weiteres Dirndl Marke Eigenbau. Traditionell ist nur das Samtmieder. Even if you can get quite nice Dirndls now for unter 150 EUR, good ones don’t come cheap. A lot of us lack the occasions or they don’t create those opportunities to wear one. So here is another self styled dirndl. The only traditional clothing is the velvet corsage.
Das hier ist eine fröhlichere Variante zu der dunklen Version mit meinem Trachtenmieder. Rock und Bluse gehören, wie auch in der anderen Variante, zu den Dingen, die ich im Alltag trage. Die Tasche der Wahl ist eine Clutch aus Raffia. This is variaton to the dark drindl look with my traditionally styled corsage. Skirt and blouse are part of the things I wear most days. The bag of choice is a raffia clutch.

Die Kette ist Vintage. Die Blumen passen gut zu Trachten und Stickereien. The necklace is vintage. The flowers remind me of traditional clothing and embroidery.
Die kleine Millefiori-Brosche hingegen bezieht sich auf den Druck des Rockes und passt aber auch gut zum Folklorethema. The small millefiori brooch is a nod to the venice theme in skirt. But it also as an ethnic or folk vibe.

Most of us dress carefully when we go places. So do I when it is time for Fashion Week in Berlin! The right kind of clothing is a statement, an invisibility cloak or your amour for the world out there. Sometimes a bit of all. Die meisten von uns überlegen sich gut, was sie anziehen. So ist das auch bei mir wenn es wieder an die Auswahl der Garderobe zur Fashionweek in Berlin geht. Die richtige Kleidung sorgt für einen fulminanten Auftritt oder ist ein Schutzschild, je nach Bedarf und Persönlichkeit. Oft aber irgendwas dazwischen.

Ich wünschte Hüte gehörten noch immer wie das i-Tüpfelchen dazu. Auch wenn ich es liebe neue oder alte Hüte zu adoptieren, es macht mir unheimlich viel Freude selbst Hand anzulegen.
Sounds grand, eh? Well, kind of. I don’t do the huge saucers. I make mini hats or fascinators. For fun. Also because my funds are limited. Plus it really relaxes me. Most are for myself. The others are presents or give-aways. Klingt etwas hochtrabend. Naja, ist es aber nur bedingt. Ich mache keine staatstragenden Wagenräder. Ich mache Mini-Hüte oder Fascinators. Zum Spaß. Und weil die Mittel nicht reichen für all die schönen Hüte da draußen. Es entspannt mich. Die meisten mache ich für mich. Die anderen sind Geschenke oder Give-Aways.

I like to play with patterns. Folding the discrete stripy cotton realigns the geometry. It allows for a play of light and shadows. Den Pinken habe ich für das Vanessa Kleid im schwarzen Lippenstift-Druck gemacht. Und für den ersten Tag der Fashion Week in Berlin. Im Zug, wo man sowieso nicht wegkommt. Mit DVDs auf dem Laptop – die letzte Staffel von Mad Men. Ich spiele gerne mit Mustern. Faltet man den diskret gestreiften Stoff verändert sich dadurch die Geometrie. Die Falten selber ermöglichen ein Spiel von Licht und Schatten.
„Apples and berries“ is the sibling of last month’s project. But with a black bow. A cute little number especially with the checked dress. Always a huge pleasure when random strangers ask me where they can buy such a pretty thing. „Äpfel und Beeren“ ist die Zwillingsschwester des Juni-DIY-Projekts. Allerdings mit einer schwarzen Schleife. Ein entzückendes Hütchen, besonders in Kombination mit dem schwarzkariertem Kleid. Ich freue mich immer sehr wenn völlig fremde mich ansprechen, wo man so etwas schönes kaufen kann.

It’s fashion week, baby. Berlin gets swarmed twice a year with the fringes of the fashion circus. You get them all – the models, the designers, the fashionistas. Berlin fashion week is no high flying event. More hands on. Pragmatic, like the most Germans prefer it. Es ist Fashionweek, Liebelein. Zweimal im Jahr kommt der Modezirkus nach Berlin. Und dann kommen sie – die Models, die Designer, die Fashionistas. Nicht unbedingt das ganz grosse Kino. Mehr der pragmatische Ansatz. Es ist immerhin Deutschland. Das passt besser hier hin.
There was a change for the plus size market – the Curvy is Sexy fair was canceled. The general trade show Panorama offered an alternative.I prefer it this way. Not the name HIPSTAR though. Not out of the way but a part with the main event. The size of the hall however doen’t do justice to the size of the market. Here is a very good (German) review about the HIPSTAR. Dieses Jahr gab es eine Veränderung bei den grossen Grössen – die Curvy ist Sexy wurde abgesagt. Es gab einen Plussize Bereich bei der Panorama (HIPSTAR – reden wir besser nicht über den Namen). Ich finde das besser so. Nicht einmal quer durch die Stadt, sondern mit dabei. Die Grösse der Halle steht wieder mal in keinem Vergleich zur Grösse und Kaufkraft des Marktes. Hier gibt es eine gute Zusammenfassung der HIPSTAR.

Diesmal gab es keine Modenschau – dafür „liefen“ die Puppen bei Ulla Popken. Schick!Overall plus size fashion and a lot of regular stuff isn’t very interesting for me. Each season a little less. Don’t get me wrong – I still buy regular clothing – as long as it has that vintage or classic touch. Like this spectacular Jumsuit by allsize label Mable (lower right corner). If you get it you’ll be one of less than 30 women who do. Alles in allem interessiere ich mich nur bedingt für Trends. Jede Saison auch ein bisschen weniger. Versteht mich nicht falsch – ich kaufe immer noch reguläre Kleidung. Zumindest solange sie in mein Retro-Konzept passt.Wie dieser spektakuläre, bordeauxrote Overall (unten rechts) vom Allgrössenlabel Mable. Wer den kauft wird eine von nur ca. 30 Frauen sein, die ihn ihr eigen nennen dürfen.

And so I have very mixed feelings if that fashion week thing is for me. I take part mostly at blogger meet-ups like the Fashion Blogger Cafe or the Hash Mag Blogger Lounge. Smaller shows, like Julia Starp’s – apart from the Lena Hoschek one I didn’t apply for any others. That was more due to the things I wanted to do and see. Und so habe ich auch sehr gemischte Gefühle ob dieses Konstrukt Fashionweek etwas für mich ist. Ich mache nur am Rande mit. Bloggertreffen wie das Fashion Blogger Cafe oder die Hash Mag Blogger Lounge. Kleinere Shows, wie die von Julia Starp. Abgesehen von der von Lena Hoschek Schau habe ich mich auch woanders nicht beworben/ angemeldet.

On the Fringes – Von der Seitenlinie
From the plus size brands Miss Kittenheel didn’t get any invites for workshops, breakfasts, no collection previews. Despite that designer and stylists find my looks interesting enough to sometimes even take pics with their mobiles, their PR people don’t. And yes, that is frustrating. I am among the most recognisable German plus size fashion bloggers. Aus der Plussize-Branche erhält Miss Kittenheel keine Einladungen zu Workshops, zum Presse/ Bloggerfrühstück, keine Kollektions-Vorschauen. Trotzdem machen mitunter die Stylisten und Designer Bilder von mit mit ihren Handys. Für die PR Leute bin ich aber augenscheinlich uninteressant. Und ja, das ist frustrierend. Ich gehöre bei den deutschen Plussize-Bloggerinnen zu denen mit dem höchsten Wiedererkennungswert.
So what do I do wrong? Despite the claims for more colour and diversity I don’t feel included. Please, don’t give me the crap that I haven’t been around long enough. Blogs that started after mine with fewer readers get invites. I usually post about twice a week on Sunday and late Wednesday or Thursday. I am very proud that the French Curves took me on in April and that I was able to join Beth Ditto’s trunk show in Paris. I don’t need to be invited to everything – one or two events would be fine. Was mache ich also falsch? Denn trotz der Beteuerungen nach mehr Vielfalt und Farbe bleibe ich aussen vor. Und sorry, Blogs die weniger lange als ich am Start sind, und weniger Leser haben gehören mit dazu. Ich poste meistens zweimal die Woche – Sonntags und Mittwochs abends oder Donnerstags. Ich bin hocherfreut, das die French Curves mich mitmachen lassen und das ich bei Beth Ditto’s Trunk Show in Paris mit dabei war.Ich muss nicht überall mit dabei sein – aber ein/ zwei Einladungen wären schön.
So back on the train home I don’t just have a slight hangover from last night’s party. Which was increadible and at trendy Haubentaucher. I turned heads. And that is a good feeling. Not because the fashionable and skinny were appalled. I wasn’t an accident they couldn’t look away from. I got appreciative looks. That and you guys are my reward. The reason why I spent my time blogging. Like potitics you don’t blog for free drinks. Random strangers who tell me they like the way I dress. The admiring looks. Im Zug auf dem Weg nach Hause habe ich nicht nur einen leichten Kater von der Party von gestern Abend. Die Party im Haubentaucher war toll. Leute haben sich nach mir umgedreht. Und das fühlt sich gut an. Nicht weil die dünnen und modischen entsetzt waren. Ich war kein Unfall, bei dem man nicht wegsehen konnte. Das waren anerkennende Blicke. Das und ihr seit meine Belohnung. Denn weie in der Politik macht man das nicht wegen der Häppchen. Der Grund warum ich diesen Aufwand betreibe. Völlig Fremde, die mir sagen, dass sie meinen Stil mögen.
However Fashionweek is more than fancy do’s – for me it is exploring new places – like the wonderful shop Fräulein Anders. Anyway – die Fashionweek ist mehr als schicke Events – es gibt auch immer viel in Berlin zu entdecken – wie den wunderbaren Laden von Fräulein Anders.
Meeting the Gals – Netzwerken
Fashion week is meeting other bloggers. Apart from the plussize bloggers the ones I was very happy to meet were: (left to right) Manja from Modespitze, Anja from Everyday Boudoir, Victoria from Vintagemädchen and earlier in the day Dani from Pin-Up-Fashion-Magazine.
Fahionweek ist aber auch die anderen Blogger zu treffen. Jenseits der vielen Plussizeblogger war es besonders schön (von links nach rechts) Manja von Modespitze, Anja von Everyday Boudoir, Victoria von Vintagemädchen und früher am Tag Dani vom PinUp-Fashion-Magazin zu treffen.

Lange erwartet und dann war es am 11.06.2016 endlich soweit: der Ladies Day startete mit der ersten Vintage Corner des Krefelder Rennclubs. Etwa 6200 Besucher sorgten bei gutem Wetter an der Galopprennbahn für einen Hauch von Ascot. Finally and long awaited it was time for the Ladies Day at theracecourse in Krefeldon the 11th of June 2016. About 6200 gave their best to bring a touch of Ascot to this beautiful racecourse in Germany.

Der Hutwettbewerb war bei Sonnenschein wesentlich besser besucht als im (regnerischen) Vorjahr – die Jury musste sich aus über 40 Beiträgen entscheiden. Keine leichte Wahl und so wurde auch der Sonderpreis für den schönsten Vintage-Hut (Original oder Repro) aufgeteilt. The hat comepition in bright sunlight was not surprisingly much better attended thanlast year in the rain. The jury had a tough time do decide and that is why the vintage price (original or repro) was split up.
Die glücklichen Gewinnerinnen waren Gabriele Roth aus Dinslaken (im Bild links), mit dem Kleid nach Wahl von Dolly and Dotty und Elisabeth Bröcking aus Erkrath (rechts im Bild) mit dem Fascinator von Miss Kittenheel. Beide perfekt gestylt – kein Vintage-Look, sondern authentisch in Originalen. The lucky winning ladies were Gabriele Roth (left) with the dress of choice byDolly and Dottyand Elisabeth Bröcking (right) who won my fascinator. Both perfectly styled – not in a repro look but in authentic originals.
Das Kleid von Dolly and Dotty ist auch schon ausgesucht und ist noch unterwegs zu seiner neuen Besitzerin, die hoffentlich damit viel Freude haben wird. The dress from Dolly and Dotty is already on its way and should arrive shortly. We hope that our winner will have much joy wearing it.
Und noch mehr Hüte – diese zauberhafte und humorvolle Variante ist von Una Geiger. Ein Rennen im Rennen auf einem Hut aus den 1940ger Jahren. Für mich einer der ausgefallensten Hüte des Tages. And even more hats- this charming and humorous creation was made by Una Geiger. A race within the races on a 1940s base. Definitely one of the most striking and original hats of the day.

Von vorne schlicht offenbart sich die ganze Pracht dieses Hutes im Stil der 1950ger erst von hinten. Prächtig geschmückt mit Rosen und Beeren ist diese Kreation aus Meisterhand von Ricarda von Mein wunderbarer Hutsalon. Ricarda bietet auch Seminare und Workshops zum Thema Hut an. Mich interessiert besonders „Shape up your Hat“, Ich habe vor einiger Zeit eine besonders bedauernswerte Hutkreation erstanden, die aufgearbeitet werden muss. Quite clean from the front this hat is a real showstopper from the back. Ricarda from „my wonderful hat shop“ made this 1950s creation adorned with berries and roses. She is a certified master milliner and offers hat workshops. I find the „shape up your hat“ most interesting since I recently bought a rather sad 1950s half hat that needs a serious makeover.
Hier in fröhlicher Runde – ohne Karen von Tate Millinery, die das Bild gemacht hat. Ricarda ist die zweite von links – hier sieht man ihren Hut von vorne und Una sitzt ganz rechts im Bild. Mein Outfit des Tages – Pünktchen gehen immer. Bei Dolly and Dotty gibt es ein ganz ähnliches Kleid, Lola in Retro-Grün und in einem dunkleren Forstgrün – beide leider fast ausverkauft. Lola gibt es insgesamt in 19 Farben. My outfit of the day – if in doubt wear dots. Dolly and Dotty has a very similar style – Lola in retro green and in forest green – both almost sold out. All in all you can get this style in 19 colours.
Dazu trage ich einen meiner vielen Boleros, diesmal in Puder. Zum rustikalen Look tragen die bewährten, robusten Absatzschuhe und die Kuh-Clutch bei. Blockabsätze sind halt für alle Arten von Untergründen gut – auch bei Kies und Rasen. Der Fascinator und das Seidentuch mit dem Jagdmotiv sind Originale aus den 1950gern. Once again I wear one of my many shrugs – this time in blush. The surdy heels are the sensible choice when you also have to walk across the lawn or on gravel. The cow clutch adds to that rustic look. Fascinator and hunting themed silk scarf are both 1950s originals.
Es war ein wunderschöner Tag – wir kommen wieder. Vielleicht ergänzen wir nächstes Jahr die Vintage Corner nicht nur um ein paar Stände – sondern auch noch um ein Picknick. Es gibt da noch einen charmanten Pavillon, der genutzt werden will. It was a grand day out and we will return. Next year a few more stalls would be good and possibly a Picknick. There is this really charming old band stand on the grounds that just would like to be used again.
