Ü30 Blogger & Friends: Lieblingscocktail(s) – Favorite Cocktails

When the theme for this month ü30 blogparade was set I knew instantly what I’d wear with it. The question about my favourite cocktail is a bit trickier and goes beyond shaken or stirred. Like so often in life it depends on location.
Als das Thema für diese Blogparade des Monats der ü30 Blogger ( und Friends) feststand, wusste ich ziemlich direkt was ich dazu anziehen werde. Die eigentliche Frage welcher mein Lieblingscocktail ist war dann schon schwieriger. Egal ob geschüttelt oder gerührt. Und wie so oft ist die Antwort ortsabhängig.

In a good bar I like to try something new. Or an old love from my teens: the minty after-dinner-cocktail Grasshopper. In most places (and recipes) the peppermint flavour is too strong. I don’t need a mouthwash in a bar. At home I like to replace the cream with vanilla ice and only take half of the mint liqueur recommended elsewhere.
In einer guten Bar probiere ich gerne mal etwas neues. Oder eine alte Liebe aus Teenagerzeiten: den minzigcremigen Dessertcocktail Grasshopper. An den meisten Orten (und Rezepten) ist der Minzegeschmack zu ausgeprägt. Mundwasser ist etwas fürs Badezimmer und nicht für die Bar. Zu Hause tausche ich auch gerne die Sahne gegen Vanilleeis und verwende nur die Hälfte des anderswo vorgeschlagenen Minzelikörs.

Steph’s Grasshopper 
4 cl Crème de Cacao ( white clear chocolate liqeur / weisser , klarer Kakaolikör)
2 cl Crème de Menthe (green / grün)
4 cl cream / Sahne or Vanilla Ice cream / Vanilleeis 
Shake in a mixer with ice cubes and strain into a chilled glass. Use a blender to mix it with vanilla ice and when following the recipe like to whip the cream first.
Mit Eiswürfeln im Shaker michen und in ein gekühltes Glas sieben. Mit einem Mixer vorher die Sahne aufschlagen, bei Vanilleeis bleibt der Shaker sauber und dafür der Mixer zum Einsatz.

The Picture was taken with a dark Crème de Cacao – tastes as fine but the colour is not as pretty and clear. With an extra bit of vanilla ice.
Das Bild ist mit dunklem Crème de Cacao aufgenommen – schmeckt auch gut – nur ist die Farbe nicht so schön!  Mit einem Extra Klecks Vanilleeis.


At home and in summer I love a Mojito. However on my balcony I prefer to serve a dark Mojito. I replace the rum with a brown rum und the brown sogar with muscovado sugar. The muscovado has a distinctive almost nutty caramelly flavour that really supports the limes. For me it replaces a string quartet with a full symphonic orchestra.
Zuhause und im Sommer Liebe ich einen anständigen Mojito. Auf meinem Balkon gibt es allerdings einen dunklen Mojito. Ich ersetze den hellen mit braunem Rum und den braunen Zucker mit Muscovado-zucker. Der Muscovado hat einen karamelligen, fast nussigen Geschmack der den der Limetten hervorragend unterstützt. Für mich ist es als würde man ein Streicherquartett gegen ein ganzes Symphonieorchester eintauschen.

MissKittenheel‘ s Mojito
1  Lime / Limette
2 twigs of mint / Stiele Minze
1–2 TL muscovado sugar / Muscovado Zucker
4 cl dark or brown rum / dunkler oder brauner Rum 
Crushed Ice
4-8 cl sparkling water / Sodawasser
Quater limes and muddle with the sugar. Add mint and give it a nudge. Add crushed ice and top up with the soda. Decoration is a twig of mint plus a straw to stir.
Limetten vierteln und mit dem Stampfer den Saft auspressen mit dem Zucker verrühren. Minze hinzufügen und etwas mit dem Löffel bearbeiten um das Aroma freizusetzen. Das restliche Glas mit dem gecrushtem Eis füllen und mit etwas Sodawasser auffüllen. Zur Deko reicht ein Zweig Minze und ein Strohhalm zum umrühren.

When I go out for lowkey cocktails I quite often start with a Piña Colada followed by one or more Long Island Iced Teas. Both drinks are rather simple to make and hide it quite well if cheap liqueur is involved.
Wenn ich zum formlosen Cocktailstrinken ausgehe beginne ich meist mit einer Piña Colada, darauf folgen einer oder mehrere Long Island Ice Teas. Beide Drinks sind relativ einfach und verzeihen den Einsatz billiger Spirituosen.


The outfit is a 1960s inspiration. Somewhere between Mad Men on vacation and my tribute to Doris Day.
Der Look ist eine Anlehnung an die 1960ger. Irgendwo zwischen Mad Men im Urlaub und einer Hommage an Doris Day.

Hello Tokyo – das perfekte Kleid zum Japantag

Yesterday was Japan Day in Düsseldorf. The day when the Japanese community sparked a celebration that became a really big thing in the region. A grand day out for many. With amazing fireworks.
Gestern war wieder Japantag in Düsseldorf. Ursprünglich eine Feier der Japanischen Gemeinde in Düsseldorf hat dieses Fest schon lange überregionale Bedeutung und ein Besuchermagnet. Mit einem grossartigem Feuerwerk.

But I didn’t go. If you follow my blog you already know that my parents soon move out of the old family home to downsize near me. So there is lots to do. Like measuring the new storage room in the basement. And in the evening when the parents left I went to a birthday bbq from a friend.
Allerdings bin ich da nicht hingekommen. Wer meinem Blog regelmäßig folgt, weiss dass meine Eltern bald ihr altes Haus verlassen um zu mir nach Bochum zu ziehen. Es gibt momentan viel zu tun. Wie den neuen Keller auszumessen. Und als die Eltern weg waren ging es zum Geburtstagsgrillen einer Freundin.

Call Me Sushi Kitty

I went a bit trigger happy with the sccessories. Though my sushi handbag stayed at home. The sushi cat cotton bag is new though. A birthday present (together with genmaicha ‚popcorn‘ tea) from my bestie.
Wieder mal schwer detailverliebt. Aber Accessoires machen einfach Spass. Allerdings musste meine Sushi-Handtasche zuhause bleiben. Der Shushi-Katzen Leinenbeutel ist neu. Ein Geburtstagsgeschenk meiner besten Freundin (zusammen mit ‚Popcorn‘ Genmaicha Grün-Tee).

The hat is new and from Frollein von Sofa’s recent flash sale. I am a sucker for boucle and the many colours are great with a good number of my dresses. It is also a hat that doesn’t quite cause a riot when you wear it but a nice addition for everyday.
Das Hütchen ist neu und von Fräulein von Sofas letzten Ausverkauf. Ich liebe Boucle und die vielen Farben passen zu richtig vielen meiner Kleider. Es ist auch ein Hut, der nicht direkt einen Auflauf verursacht, wenn man ihn anzieht. Ein Hut für den Alltag. 


The darling earrings feature a mini-geisha. The orchid brooch is like the bracelet from the 50s or early 60s.
Eine Mini-Geisha ziert die zauberhaften Ohringe Die Orchideenbrosche ist wie das Armband vintage und aus den 50gern oder frühen 60ger Jahren.

On The Go: Ladies Day Krefeld 2018 with Mini-Me

After the 3rd time – things become a tradition. So traditionally I went to the Ladies Day at Krefeld racecourse.  On mother’s day. Godchild 2 stayed at my place for the entire weekend. And it was god fun.
Ab dem dritten Mal werden Dinge zur Tradition. Also habe ich mich traditionell zum Ladies Day des Krefelder Rennclubs aufgemacht. Zu Muttertag. Patenkind Nr.2 war sogar über das Wochenende bei mir. Und wir hatten viel Spass!




The godchild picked the winning horses. I shouldn’t havebet on the name of my first cat. Maybe I get lucky in love soon?
Das Patenkind hatte sich die besseren Pferde ausgesucht. Meine haben alle verloren. Vielleicht hätte ich nicht auf das Pferd mit dem Namen meines toten Katers setzen sollen? Naja – vielleicht habe ich ja demnächst Glück in der Liebe…

The weather on racing day was bad – it changed between drizzle and rain for the entire afternoon. Our vintage picnic got a rain check. The godchild and me still showed up – but we stayed inside. With matching dresses and brooches. We also made a similar fascinator for her. And lo and behold – we even won the vintage price.
Das Wetter am Renntag war ungemütlich – Niesel- und Regen wechselten sich ab. Unser Vintage-Picnic fiel ins Wasser. Patenkind 2 und ich waren trotzdem da. Blieben aber fast nur drinnen. Mit passenden Kleidern und Broschen. Auch die Hütchen waren aufeinander abgestimmt. Den Fascinator hatten wir am Vortag erst gemacht. Wir haben sogar damit den Vintage-Preis gewonnen.

Susanne Bollman from Hüte von Hand had her stall on the premises this year. You might remember this gorgeous red hat from her – I wore that one last year.
Diese Jahr hat Susanne Bollmann von Hüte von Hand  ausgestellt. Von ihr habe ich den tollen roten Hut vom letzen Jahr.


I think Godchild 2 looks a bit like my mum (on the left) in the 1950s.
Ich finde Patenkind 2 sieht ein wenig aus wie meine Ma (links) in den 1950gern.

Hinter den Kulissen von Paris – Meeting Mireille Mathieu

„How spontaneous are you? We have a spare ticket from Mireille Matthieu for tomorrow night – fancy to come along?“ And so I went along with Bärbel from uefuffzich. Who is among a group of serious MM admirers who travel to most (if not all) her concerts. That is how I ended up at a meet and greet backstage.
„Wie spontan bist du? Wir haben eine Karte für Mireille Mathieu übrig. Kommst du morgen abend mit?“ Klingt spannend und so habe ich Bärbel von üfuffzich zugesagt. Sie gehört zu einer Gruppe von grossen MM Bewunderern, die zu den meisten (wenn nicht allen) Konzerten reisen. Deswegen bin ich auch beim Meet and Greet in der Garderobe dabei gewesen.

Mireille Mathieu is for me deeply routed in my childhood with her regular appearances on German tv. Her catchy songs were very popular with her audience and even if it isn’t quite my kind of music, I was clapping and humming along.
Mireille Mathieu gehört für mich zu den Institutionen der (Fernseh-) Abendunterhaltung meiner Kindheit. Ihre eingängigen Lieder (um nicht zu sagen Ohrwürmer) haben das Publikum begeistert und auch wenn Schlager nicht wirklich meins sind, habe ich mitgeklatscht und -gesummt.



What I really wowed were her chansons, her energy and vibrancy. I’d love an evening with a mix of French chansons and songy by Brecht-Weil like Mack the Knife. Her hommage to her mother was raw, touching and utterly authentic.
Was mich richtig begeistert hat waren ihre Französischen Chansons, ihre Energie und Ausstrahlung. Ein Abend von ihr mit französischen Chansons und Liedern von Brecht-Weil wie Mackie Messer wäre grossartig. Ihre Liebeserklärung an ihre Mutter ist  schnörkellos, aufwühlend und echt.

Last time I met Bärbel was in Paris. In September. We spent a wonderful day together. I went there oringinally to see the Christian Dior, Designer of Dreams exhibition at the Musée des Arts décoratifs. It was a visual feast.
Bärbel habe ich das letzte Mal in Paris getroffen. Im September. Wir haben eien grossartigen Tag verbracht. Eigentlich bin ich nur nach Paris gefahren um mit die Christian Dior, Couturier du Rêve im Musée des Arts décoratifs.

New York, New York – Skyline Dress

I instantly fell in love with this LindyBop dress. What dress you ask? This looks like a skirt. But it isn’t. The way the top is cut my bra flashes and I don’t like that. I like sleeves, too – so I wear this dress with a knotted shirt on top.
In dieses LindyBop Kleid hatte ich mich Hals über Kopf verliebt. Welches Kleid? Das sieht doch aus wie ein Rock. Das Top ist leider so geschnitten das mein BH immer etwas doof hervorblitzt. Nicht meins. So gar nicht. Ärmel mag ich auch – also trage ich das Kleid mit dem Hemd darüber.


The illustrated skyline is soo pretty. Playful in pastels. But the novelty print doesn’t look like playschool. I’d actually wear it in NY, too. Not with stilettos. Along with my 1960s inspired Doris Day outfit.
Die gezeichnete Skyline ist einfach nur schön. Etwas verspielt. In Pastelltönen. Mit Motivdruck. Ohne nach Kindergarten auszusehen. Das würde ich auch in New York anziehen. Nur ohne die Stilettos. Ebenso wie mein 1960s Doris Day Outfit.


I remember back in 1989 when my high school exchange group and I visited New York we walked and walked. Uptown, downtown, China town, Little Italy, the Brooklyn bridge and back.
Als wir 1989 mit unserer Schüler-Austauschgruppe da warendind wir den ganzen Tag gelaufen. Uptown, downtown, China Town, Little Italy, über die Brookly Bride und natürlich zurück.

We had pretzels (yayh) and hot dogs (not my thing) in Cental Park, took the Staten Island ferry to gawk at the statue of liberty and rode yellow cabs (once). We marvelled at the Guggenheim, saw Warhols in the MoMa and the sunset from the Empire State building. Our feet only stopped hurting shortly before we had to get up again.
Wir hatten Brezel (toll) und Hot Dogs (nicht meins) im Central Park, fuhren mit der Staten Island Fähre an der Freiheitsstatue vorbei und fuhren mit den berühmten gelben Taxis (einmal). Wir staunten im Guggenheim Museum, sahen Warhols im Metropolitan Museum of Art und den Sonnenuntergang vom Empire State Building. Unsere Füsse hörten erst kurz vorm aufstehen auf weh zu tun.

I am an urban creature – but without cushy funds New York didn’t look like a lot of fun. I’d like to live there for a few months, at most a year. The big apple is a juicy fruit. But I wouldn’t like to live there permanantly.
Ich bin ein Stadtmensch. Aber ohne finanzielles Polster kam mir New York als schwierig vor. Dort zu leben wäre toll – für ein paar Monate, maximal ein Jahr. Es ist eine sehr spannende Stadt. Aber dauerhaft zu gross und zu hektisch für meinen Geschmack.



Fun fact: the heels are from the Sex and the City collection back in 2010. Today worn without the wonderfully kitsch shoe clips from  Alternate Normality.

On the Go: Birds in Spring – Alle Vögel sind schon da!

Springtime. The birds are singing put there and there a lot of colourful birds on my dress. This duck egg blue dress will go well into Summer. It is a cotton dress lined with a jersey material. I really love the moderate cleavage. So it is very well suited for a day in the office or for family affairs.
Frühling. Die Vögel singen da draussen um die Wette und tummeln sich viele bunte Vögel auf meinem Kleid. Dieses helltürkise Kleid kann man auch noch gut im Sommer tragen. Es ist aus Baumwolle, abgefüttert mit einem Jersey Material. Mir gefällt der moderate Ausschnitt sehr, sehr gut. Der eignet sich hervorragend fürs Büro und Familienfeste.

The birds are rather generic. I picked out the yellow and black ones for the rest of the outfit. My second-hand tweed jacket. My surprisingly old python patterned heels. As well as a true vintage clutch. Not real snake though.
Eine bestimmte Vogelart konnten wir nicht bestimmen. Wie auch immer, ich habe mir das schwarz-gelbe Vogelpärchen für die Frbgebung des restlichen Looks ausgesucht. Mein schwarz-gelbes Tweed Jacket. Meine überraschend alten pseudo Schlangenleder Absatzschuhe. Eine echte Vintage Clutch. Allerdings nicht aus echtem Schlangenleder.

Hello Spring – Happy Colours

I love spring. Love its colours. The whites, bright greens, the pale lilacs, blues, purple and pinks. But the clear yellow of the daffodils, witch hazel (hamamelis) and forsythia says it all: winter is over!
Ich liebe den Frühling und seine Farben. Die verschiedenen Weiss-Töne, die zarten Lilas, das Blau der Hyazinthen, die ganzen Rosa- und Purpurtöne. Das leuchtende Gelb der Osterglocken, von Zaubernuss und Forsithien sticht da klar mit einer frohen Botschaft heraus: der Winter ist vorbei!

To celebrate springtime I decided to combine my yellow colette dress with my olive shrug and the wonderful spring hat Enie by Frollein von Sofa.
Um den Frühling gebührend zu feiern habe ich mein gelbes Colette kleid mit meiner moosgrünen Strickjacke und dem wunderbaren Frühlingshut Enie von Frollein von Sofa von Sofa kombiniert.

And the dear Frollein will tell me once more that I must wear the lily-of-the-valley hat more tiltet in my face. She is right. Sometime after mid May Enie will return to her maker and the elastic band will be exchanged for a steel hairband. Mounted by the Frollein to the perfect spot.
Und das liebe Frollein wird mich wieder einmal tadeln dass ich den Maiglöckchen-Hut viel zu weit hinten trage. Völlig zurecht. Irgendwann nach Mitte Mai wird Enie zu ihrer Schöpferin zurückkehren damit das elastische Hutband gegen einen Haarreif aus Stahl ausgetauscht wird. Dann sitzt der Hut immer da, wo er sitzen soll.

Die Handtasche ist neu, gefunden bei eBay. Echtes Vintage – kein Repro. Aus Waliser Tweed. Vermutlich aus den 1960gern. Letztes Mal mit meinem Magnolienkleid gezeigt.

The mother of pearl brooch is another „heirloom“ from my (great) aunt. My mum gave me her (fake) pearls – as well as a real pearl necklace. She thought it is time I own one.
Die Perlmutbrosche ist ein weiteres Erbstück meiner (Gross-) Tante. Meine Mutter hat mir neulich ihre (Kunst-) Perlen geschenkt unter anderem auch eine echte Perlenkette. Sie fand es sei an der Zeit, dass ich eine besistze.

Hello Sping – Pink Magnolias

Spring is a bit late this year. Fashionwise autumn is my favorite season but I can never decide if I prefer spring or autumn.
Der Frühling ist dieses Jahr etwas später dran. Modisch ist zwar der Herbst meine liebste Jahreszeit, aber ich kann mich nie entscheiden was ich lieber mag – Frühling oder Herbst.


The bright greens of the fresh foliage in spring is so mouthwatering. The glorious pinks, bright yellows, shiny whites, the many dainty flowers. Magnolias are among my favourites in a spring garden. Delicate flowers like china cups and ahhh – the fragrance.
Das frische Grün der jungen Blätter ist so saftig. Die wunderbaren Rosatöne, das fröhliche Gelb, strahlendes Weiss und die vielen zarten Blüten. Magnolien gehören zu meinen Lieblingen m Frühjahrsgarten. Blüten wie feinstes Porzellan – und ach, der feine Duft!

Last year LindyBop made this lovely Magnolia dress. It came out late in May. Too late to celebrate spring. I bought it before it hit the sales. But I struggle to resist a wiggle dress in my size – they are few.
Letzes Jahr brachte LindyBop dieses Kleid Ende Mai heraus. Zu spät um noch den Frühling zu feiern.Und ich hatte es gekauft bevor es reduziert wurde. Aber ich habe Probleme Bleistiftkleidern in meiner Grösse zu wiederstehen. Es gibt sie so selten.


When I proudly showed a picture of this dress to my cousins both of them agreed that the original black scallops were too harsh. But spring is light and airy and fresh. So I made my tailor change that.
Als ich meinen Cousinen hocherfreut ein Bild vom gerade bestellten Kleid zeigte, waren beide von der ursprünglich schwarzen Dekolletee-Einlage wenig begeistert. Zu Hart der Kontrast. Aber der Frühling ist leicht und luftig. Also musste mein Schneider das ändern.


The material is from a shirt I orered in two sizes that was in the January sales. I amwearing the smaller one underneath. Did I metion – I am quite smitten?
Das Material ist von einem Hemd, dass ich im Winterschlussverkauf in zwei Grössen bestellt hatte. Das kleinere trage ich darunter. Habe ich es schon erwähnt: ich bin hellauf begeistert?

On the Go: Sushi Kitten Bag meets Sakura Dress

My new handbag meets one of my favourite dresses – and the Anna Scholz dress has been around on this blog a few times. This time the Cheongsam-style dress is paired up with an orange/ coral boden cropped cardigan. Spring is close by – as you can see with the pale blush scarf and beret.


The cheongsam was considered in the 1930s a dress of empowerment for women, fo rmore freedom. I love the modern, stretchy material and the very pretty pattern. And it goes so well with the colours of the Vendula handbag.

Marlene Dietrich is one of the style icons of the 1930s. It was her (and Kathleen Hepburn) that made long wide trousers socially acceptable for women.
Marlene Dietrich ist eine der bekanntesten Stilikonen der 1930er Jahre. Sie war es (und Kathleen Hepburn) die lange weite Hosen (sogenannte Marlene-Hosen) für Frauen gesellschaftsfähig machten.
