Something old and nothing new. I have worn that teal blue dress around my 40th birthday. That was nearly 8 years ago. I don’t recall when it stopped to fit. But that was more than 6 years ago. It waited a long time in my basement. The two latest things that came to me are the cat brooch and the rainbow wristlets. Though those are used ehhh 2nd hand.
Etwas altes und eigentlich nichts wirklich neues. Ich habe das petrolfarbene Kleid zu meinem 40ten Geburtstag getragen. Das ist fast 8 Jahre her. Ich erinnere mich nicht mehr so ganz daran, wann es nicht mehr passte. Es hat einige Jahre im Keller ausgeharrt. Die letzten Zugänge in diesem Look sind die Katzenbrosche und die Regenboge-Armstulpen.
In my respiratory rehab I had a (mandantory) adipositas talk with one of the psychiatrists in residence. At the end she suggested I might try different shoes – for more, easier more dynamic walking. And yeah – those sneakers rock. To be honest I’ll get some more in different colours.
In meiner Asthma-Reha hatte ich ein Adipositas-Gespräch mit einer der Psychologinnen vor Ort. Am Ende gab sie mir mit es mal mit anderen Schuhen zu probieren. Welche mit denen man mehr, bequemer und dynamischer gehen kann. Und ja, Turnschuhe sind grossartig. Ich werde mir noch welche in mehr Farben kaufen.

This is the most featured hat on my blog. It is its 7th appearance here. Though I just wear it in April and May, I seriously love the little lily of the valley hat. This year it returned to the quirky Frollein von Sofa and she changed the elastic band for a head band. Now it stays in its place. All day.
Das ist der Hut mit den meisten Blogbeiträgen, heute ist es das siebte Mal. Und das obwohl ich den entzückenden kleiunen Maiglöckchen-Hut nur im April und Mai trage. Dieses Jahr kam er kurz zurück zu seiner Schöpferin – der wunderbar kreativen Frollein von Sofa. Sie hat den Hutgummi gegen einen Haarreif ausgetauscht. Jetzt sitzt er immer da wo er sitzen soll. Den ganzen Tag.
Not sure about the flowers in the pattern – they look like clematis montana (mountain clematis) to me – though like a wild rose they got five petals. The small yellow ones seem to be mimosas. All in all on the sage back drop a delightful spring bouquet.
Die weissen Blüten sehen für mich wie Bergwaldreben (Clematis montana) aus – allerdings haben die im Muster wie Wildrosen 5 Blütenblätter. Bei den kleinen gelben Blüten scheint es sich um Mimosen zu handeln.Alle auf einem blass grün-grauen Untergrund. Perfekt für einen Frühlingslook.
I still feel a bit strange wearing a mask – though with the florals and pastels I feel more like I plan a heist on a tea room than a bank robber.
Ich komme mir immer noch merkwürdig mit der Maske vor – allerdings mit dem Blumenmuster und den Pasteltönen sehe ich mehr nach Teesalon als nach schwarzer Block oder Bankraub aus.

Jedes Jahr hole ich meinem Rad aka #derFahrrad und mir etwas schönes zum Geburtstag. Dieses Jahr bekamen wir beide eine Tasche. Die andere Tasche ist gross genug für einen Laptop und hat Halterungen für den Gepäckträger. Die Tasche um die es eigentlich geht macht wesentlich mehr Spass. Es ist die Ladenfront Handtasche La Bicyclette von Vendula London. Mit der Sushi-Tasche hatte und habe ich seit zwei Jahren sehr, sehr viel Spass.
The swing dress is the first dress in a very long time (as in hell, I have seriously no clue when) – that I tried on in a shop and bought it. In my size that is tricky – especially with my love for vintage style clothing. RetroQueen is located in the centre of Essen. They have a good selection of dresses and a very tempting range of accessories, shoes and bags.
Das Kleid mit dem Tellerrock ist das erste das ich seit einer sehr, sehr langen Zeit in einem Laden anprobiert und gekauft habe. Das liegt nur partiell an meiner Grösse und nur beding tam Stil – die Kombination aus meiner Vorliebe für 1950ger Kleidung und meiner Kleidergrösse ist tricky. In mid January I just wanted to pick up a cocktail brooch. from RetroQueen. I got a tour of the shop and 10 minutes vefore they closed I tried on the dress and bought it. It is from the Swedish label Miss Candyfloss. Sold out on the internet it was still there in the shop.

The nose-mounth-masks will stay for quite a while with us – so here are some more. For going shopping and just being out and about single use ones seem such a waste. Besides that they look boring as hell. The one with the 50s sweing pattern is from a vintage shop in Essen – quite locally.

The pin stripe mask is from Frozen Hibiscus in Berlin. The small brooch is real vintage from the 50s or 60s. With iris or rainbow rhinestones. I have a surrising number of small brooches, probably originating from hats or caps. I usually aquired them in collections.

The outfits today – as well as my (binge) watching recommendations – are inspired by Mad Men (Netflix) and the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (Amazon). Both very stylish to watrch. Great wardrobe and sets. Although I wouldn’t recommend Mad Men if you try to quit smoking and want to cut back on alcohol.

Allerfings würde ich Mad Men nicht empfehlen wenn man gerade aufgehört hat zu rauchen und / oder seinen Alkoholkonsum reduzieren möchte.
The brooches in the upper left and lower right corner are vintage from the 50s and / or 60s. The other two are not. I really like the question mark brooch – it is quirky and bold.

They say copying is the highest form of flattery. The golden costume brocch is spot on – I don’t have a pendant pen but I think the tassel necklace is pretty close.
Nachahmung ist die höchste Form der Anerkennung . und etwas was ich selten mache. Die goldene Kostümbrosche sieht fast so aus wie auf dem Bild. Einen Füller- oder Stiftanhänger habe ich aber nicht. Dafür kommt die Quastenkette schon recht nah an den Look.
As for the shoes – most pics with Joanie just show her to mid-thigh to below the knees. But I really like the leo heels to the sexy secretary look.
Was die Schuhe anbelangt – auf den meisten Bildern wird Joanie nur bis Mitte der Oberschenkel oder knapp unters Knie gezeigt. Ich mag die Leo-Kittenheels zum sexy Secretary Look sehr.

Celebrating the international Women’s Day on March 8th was one of the last events in politics in Bochum. It now seems like it was an enternity ago.
Am 8. März zum Weltfrauentag fand in Bochum eine der letzten grösseren politischen Veranstaltungen statt. Vor einer gefühlten Ewigkeit.
In January I visited my cousin and a lovely little vintage shop where she lives. The ladies from Vintage View / My Second Love, Gesa and Martina had (before most shops were closed in lock-down) gone the other way aruond. They started as an online and pop-up store but were more happy with their real life shop. During the lock-down they did an excellent job on Facebook, Instagram and opened their own YouTube channel.
Im Januar habe ich meine Cousine und einen schönen kleinen Vintageladen in Hennef besucht. Gesa und Martina, die Ladies von Vintage View / My Second Love sind, bevor die Läden im Lockdown geschlossen wurden, den anderen Weg gegangen. Sie haben als Onlne- und Pop-Up-Store angefangen. In letzter Zeit haben sie auf Facebook, Instagram einen tolen Job gemacht und haben mittlerweile ihren eigenen YouTube Kanal.
I bought a cute pair of 1950s deadstock clip on earrings and eventually will turn them into brooches. The ladies sell a great mix of true vintage, reproduction and retro clothing. They got a great eye for old jewellry and new accessories. Among their brands are Lady V Vintage and they even had a dress in my size – but the pattern was too similar to this dress.
Ich habe mir da ein Paar 1950ger Ohrclips aus Lagerbeständen gekauft, die werden demnächst zu Broschen umfunktioniert. Die beiden Ladies verkaufen einen grossartigen Mix aus echter Vintagemode, Reproduktionen und Retrokleidung. Sie haben ein tolles Auge für alten Schmuck und neue Accessoires. Zu den Marken, die sie führen gehört auch Lady V London. Es gab sogar ein Kleid in meiner Grösse – aber das Muster war mir zu nah an einem meiner Lieblingskleidern.
The dress is also from Lady V Vintage bought in the boxing day sale. The 1930s bird pattern is on a 40s styled dress. Vintage moonglow rhinestone in a navette cut are used in the collier. The necklace was extended by two inch for me not with a longer chain but with stones.
Dieses Kleid ist auch von Lady V London, gekauft im letzten „nach Weihnachts-Sale“. Das Muster ist aus den 1930gern, der Schnitt aus den 40gern. Die schimmernden Steine der Kette sind auch aus Altbeständen. SoHo hat die Kette für mich mit den passenden „Opalen“ um ca 5 cm verlängert.
The recently refurbished German mining museum hosted the official celebration of the International Women’s Day. A joint event of the city and one of the major unions. Across parties we came up with a fun idea for next year. Though it might have to wait for 2022. Depending on how this pandemic is developing.
Im noch recht frisch neugestalteten Deutschen Bergbaumuseum fand dieses Jahr der offizeille festakt zum Weltfrauentag statt. Eine gemeinsame Veranstaltung der Stadt und einer der führenden Gewerkschaften. Überparteilich kamen wir auch eine grossartige Idee fürs nächste Jahr. Allerdings muss das eventuell bis 2022 warten. Je nach dem wie sich die Lage in den nächsten Montagen entwickelt.
The last two months have show us how many women are working underpaid and usually under appreciated in crucial structures like health services and supermarkets. It is at home where so many more women under the radar care for relatives, do chores, cook, clean, educate and look after their children to an unproportiante amount compared to their male partners. Clapping for staff in our gardens, balconies, open windows was a nice gesture but all of these women really need our support and a well deserved break.
Die letzten zwei Monate haben uns vor Augen geführt wieviele Frauen unterbezahlt und wenig gewürdigt in systemrelevanten Bereichen wie dem Gesundheitswesen und der allgemeinen Versorgung arbeiten. Zuhause sind es vor allem Frauen die Angehörige pflegen, den Haushalt führen, Kinder betreuen und das statistisch nicht im gleichen Verhältnis wie ihre männlichen Partner. Applaus von Balkonen war eine schöne Geste, aber Frauen benötigen keine Symbolik sondern unsere Unterstützung und verdiente Pausen.

Suffragette – is about the struggle to get the right to vote and The Iron Lady – a biography of Margaret Thatcher, the first elected female head of state in Europe – a barrier but not a ground breaker for women in politics.
Heute gibt es wieder ein paar Filmtipps zu Frauen in Politik und Gesellschaft (auf Netflix bzw ausleihbar auf Amaon): Die Herzogin spielt in England am Ende den 18. Jahrhunderts und zeigt die Beschränkungen einer eigentlich privilegierten Frau in einer Zeit in der Frauen nicht die gleichen Rechte wie ihre Ehemänner hatten. Suffragette – Taten statt Worte handelt vom Kampf um das Wahlrecht für Frauen und die eiserne Lady ist eine Biographie von Margaret Thatcher, dem ersten gewählten weiblichen Staatsoberhaupt in Europa. Eine Barrierebrecherin, aber leider keine Wegbereiterin für Frauen in der Politik.

I am back at home in quarantine.I don’t have corona but RSV, something usually only small children and babies get. So I will miss out on the next council session – and I already had my outfit sorted. And I’ll #stayhome even more.

I have both – Amazon Prime (AP) and Netflix (N). On my watchlist are Catch me if you Can (N / AP to rent), Down with Love (AP) and Hidden Figures (N). All celebrating a 50/ 60s vibe and lots of great looks – apart from good stories.

Alle spielen in den 50ger/60ger Jahren und sind neben einer guten Handliung toll ausgestattet.
Look number one is a bit formal and meant for council sessions, meetings etc. but it would also be a good one for the computing pool in Hidden Figures. After a long abstinence from the Marks & Spencer website I relasied they have now a larger selection in my size – a UK24.
Das erste Outfit ist etwas formeller und war für Ratssitzungen, Besprechungen, etc. geplant – es passt aber auch gut in den Rechenpool der Ladies von Hidden Figures. Nach langen Jahren habe ich mal wieder ein Kleid von Marks & Spencer gekauft. Mittlerweile haben die auch in meiner aktuellen Grösse (D52) wieder etwas merh Auswahl.
The other look featuring the pretty Cosma hat with a world map print (once more from Frollein von Sofa) is a nod to the golden age of flying. The denim dress reminds me of flight attendant uniforms. Back in the days when they were still called stewardesses.
Der andere Look mit dem dunklen Jeanskleid erinnert mich an die Uniformen von Flugbegleiterinnen – aus der Zeit, als die noch Stewardessen genannt wurden. Das kleine Hütchen von Frollein von Sofa greift das Thema auf und das Outfit ist eine kleine Verbeugung vor dem Jet-Zeitalter.
As of Monday we will have to wear masks in shops, public transport and many other places. I prepared early for something like that and ordered some fabric nose-mouth-masks from Frozen Hibiscus. We should leave the disposable ones for those who really need them. Although at home I don’t really need mine right now.
Ab Montag müssen wir Behelfsmasken beim Einkaufen, im ÖPNV und vielen anderen Orten tragen. Ich habe rechtzeitig vorgesorgt und einige dieser Stoffmasken bei Frozen Hibiscusbestellt. Denn es macht Sinn die Einweg-Masken für die die aufzuheben, die die wirklich brauchen. Alleine zuhause brauche ich aber nicht wirklich meine Stoffmasken.
Currently I don’t really need a handbag, nor a jacket or a hat. At least not for going out on my balcony or if I feel despite the coughing up for it the trip down to the bins. I wear the demim dress a lot and since I bought it last summer it became an instant favourite. It is quite stretchy and the pockets have a very good size.
Momentan brauche ich aber auch keine Handtasche, meine Hüte oder eine Jacke. Zumindest nicht um mich tauf meinen Balkon zu setzen oder wenn ich mich fit genug fühle und nicht so viel huste um den den Müll runter zu bringen. Das Jeanskleid trage ich sehr oft seitdem ich mir das letzten Sommer gekauft habe. Eines meiner Lieblingsteile. Es ist bequem, sehr stretchig und die Taschen sind endlich mal ausreichend gross.

We got a pandemic out there and one of the ways to save others is to stay in – to #StayHome or #StayTheFuckHome. Though sweatpants are comfy, part of me holds it with the late Karl Lagerfeld:“Sweatpants are a sign of defeat. You lost control of your life so you bought some sweatpants.”. They are good for sports. But they never make me feel good wearing them.
Da draussen ist eine Pandemie und wir sind in der seltenen Lage uns allen zu helfen in dem wir brav #ZuhauseBleiben. Für die meisten ist das gleichbedeutend mit Jogginghosen. In der Hinsicht halte ich es mit dem verstorbenen Karl Lagerfeld: „Wer eine Jogginghose trägt, hat die Kontrolle über sein Leben verloren.“ Natürlich sind Jogginghosen grossartig zum Sport. Aber zuhause fühle ich mich damit nicht so toll. So gar nicht.

I prefer pyjama pants, patterns and a bit of glamour. My contemporary home-style icons are Dita von Teese and the unflappable Mrs. Murphy. Sprucing up isn’t actually much more of an effort than casual dressing. A slouchy fleece jacket isn’t quicker to put on than something more sophisticated like a vintage (inspired) kimono or a robe-like dress. Adding a brooch and a pretty blouse instead of an old t-shirt and I feel smart.
Ich bevorzuge Pyjamahosen, Muster und etwas Glamour. Meine Stilikonen für zuhause sind Dita von Teese und die unerschütterliche Mrs. Murphy. Sich nett anzuziehen ist genauso viel oder wenig Aufwand wie alles andere. Eine sehr geliebte Fleecejacke ist nicht schneller angezogen als ein schöner Kimono oder ein bequemes Wickelkleid. Dazu noch eine Brosche und eine adrette Bluse anstelle eine alten T-Shirts und ich fühle mich direkt viel besser.
This look isn’t necessarily something I wear when I am coughing my lungs out and trust me I have done that, but when I am just spending some downtime at home or am on my way of recovery. Acutually I wear this pretty often.
Dieser Look ist nicht unbedingt etwas das ich trage, wenn ich mir gerade die Lunge aus dem Leib huste und das habe ich leider schon zu oft gemacht. Aber wenn ich einfach nur so zu Hause bin oder es mir wieder besser geht, dann trage das so recht oft.
I’d still love one of those luscious robes – but they are seriously out of my price range (though the materials and the quality on the pics seem totally woth it). So in case you want to offer me a cooperation – I’d be up for that!

Same for those outrageously fun bunny slippers. I’d be really tempted if they came in kittenheels or a sturdy mid heel. If I sound like a bore my knees don’t appretiate 4 inch heels any longer. Last year in France I bought these cute kitten slippers. Pink but flat. And quite cuddly. Have I lost control about my life? You decide!
Das gleiche gilt für die herrlich verrückten Bunny-Slippers. Da wäre ich mega versucht wenn es die als Kittenheels oder mit Oma-Absatz gäbe. Auch wenn es langweilig klingt – meine Knie lassen sich nicht mehr von 10cm Absätzen überzeugen. Letztes Jahr in der Bretagne habe ich diese süssen Kätzchen-Hausschuhe gekauft. Pink und flach. Und sehr kuschelig. Habe ich damit die Kontrolle über mein Leben verloren? Ihr entscheidet!

I prepared a whole fun month for you for April featunring my favourite hats and looks from Frollein von Sofa to ditch the concept for now. Same for the geek chic looks for March – they seemed a bit off right now and I got sick.
Ich hatte liebevoll einen Monat voller Outfits mit meinen Hütchen und den passenden Looks von Frollein von Sofa für den April geplant nur um das vorerst auf Eis zu legen. Ebenso im März für einige Geek Chic Outfits – das passte so gar nicht und ich wurde krank.
So many of us are in lockdown, some in official Corona-quarantine or in selfisolation. Like I was for the last two weeks. And though escapism is one thing but posting like we don’t have a pandemic out there is ignnoring reality.
So viele von uns bleiben zuhause wegen Ausgangs- oder Kontaktsperren, in offizieller Corona-Quarantäne oder Selbstisoloation. So wie ich für die letzten zwei Wochen. Auch wenn Eskapismus auch seine Vorzüge hat, wäre es für mich Realitätsverweigerung einfach so weiter zu machen.
My covid-19 test turned out negative – still there is a good chance that it was a false-negative. My symptoms quite pointed into that direction but I guess I’ll find out for sure in a couple of weeks when I’ll get one of these new antibody tests.
Mein Covid-19 Test war negativ. Allerdings gibt es dabei eine gute Chance das mein Ergebnis falsch-negativ war. Meine Symptome waren relativ klar, Gewissheit finde ich aber wahrscheinlich erst in ein paar Wochen mit einem der neuen Antikörpertests.
I was off work for two weeks and stayed home. Each day I took a picture of the (coffee) mug of the day on my balcony – apart from the day there was this icy rain. Then the mug and I stayed in. My parents dropped off food at the door and so did the sushi guy.
Ich wurde für 2 Wochen krankgeschrieben und bin brav zuhause geblieben. Jeden Tag habe ich ein Bild der Kaffeetasse des Tages auf meinem Balkon gemacht – ausser an dem Tag mit dem Eisregen. da sind Tasse und ich drinnen geblieben. Meine Eltern und der Sushi-Mann haben Essen vor meiner Tür abgestellt.
I had a dry cough, raised temperatures and felt constantly out of breath for 10 days. Two days were quite unpleasant – almost as in the height of my whooping cough in 2016, especially in the night and then pouf – the nasty cough turned from hungy tiger to complacend house cat.
Ich hatte einen trockenen Husten, erhöhte Temperatur und fast konstante meist nur leichte Atemnot für 10 Tage. Zwei Tage war der Husten fast so wir 2016 als ich Keuchhusten hatte. Innerhalb von 12 Stunden war es dann auf einmal besser.
Social distancing is a bugger – I still miss going out – so I tagged friends on Facebook for virtual #CoronaPartyTime, took a picture of my drink of the night on my bar cart and tagged us in places we have been. The 80s reproduction of a 1930s art deco bar cart is well stocked – though we are sadly missing the soft parts for the cocktails.

Ich mache ein Bild von meinem Drink und logge uns in unsere Lieblingsbars und -orte ein. Meine 80ger Jahre Reproduktion eines 1930ger Art-Deco ist zwar gut bevorratet – es fehlt aber an den alkohofreien Komponenten vieler Cocktails.
The last dress has a pattern named pinata – but this isn’t a Mexican paper thing these are Swedish dala horses. Like the one I still have from the 70s. Anyway – you see, you don’t have to wear sweat pants at home and can still be comfy.
Das Muster des letzen Kleides heisst Pinata – aber mit dem mexikanischem Papierspielzeug hat das wenig zu tun, das sind schwedische Dala-Pferde. Wie das, was schon seit den 1970gern bei uns in der Familie ist. Anyway – man muss zuhause nicht unbedingt in Jogginghosen auf dem Sofa sitzen.

Just a quick one – sometimes you got a look all sussed out and 15min before you go out you think – ehhh, nope. So the japanese inspired floral tights and the bag stayed. But I went for a different dress and shoes. And though the white wall and I have seem to have a race who is paler I am chuffed with the look
Heute kurz und knapp. Manchmal denk man das Outfit ist fertig nur um es kurz bevor es los geht grundlegend zu ändern. So hiermit. Die Tasche und die markante Strumpfhose mit dem japanischen Blumenmotiv blieben. Kleid und Schuhe habe ich ausgetauscht. Und auch wenn die weisse Wand und ich ein Kopf an Kopf Rennen machen wer blasser ist, bin ich jetzt zufrieden.
Contrary to my other novelty bags this one can hold my purse, my phone, keys and (loose) make-up – without slimming them down.
Im Gegensatz zu meinen anderen ausgefallenen „Novelty“ Handtaschen hat die hier ein gutes Ladevolumen und mein Portemonaie, der Schlüsselbund, mein neues Handy und lose Lippenstift und co hinein – ohne das ich das verkleinern muss!
Unfortunately Pince of Wales Tartan, glencheck and smallish houndstooth can be tricky to take pictures off. The pattern becomes blurry and looses it’s crips black and white feeling.
Leider überstrahlen manche Muster und das klare Schwarz./Weiss wird ein flirrender Brei – wie hier der Prince of Wales Check (oder auch Glencheck, Hahnenfuss/ Pepita, etc.).

When my dearest friend from Manchester wrote me about her wedding last autumn I more or less instantly knew what I’d wear and had my excuse to order the suit on sale. The very suit I already have in black and white. Officially the colour is called apricot – but I think flamingo would be more apt.
Als meine beste Freundin aus Manchester mir letzten Herbst ihren Hochzeitstermin durchgegeben hat, wusste ich sofort was ich anziehen wollte und hatte meine Entschuldigung das Kostüm im Sale zu kaufen. Das gleiche Kostüm, dass ich auch in Schwarz und Weiss habe. Verkauft wurde die Farbe als Apricot. Ich finde Flamingo passender.
In the end I two weeks ago I didn’t go to that wedding. For health reasons. But this is what I wanted to wear. I wore this suit on my birthday. Toned down with a grey blouse, scarf, a brown small brief case and heels.
Leider konnte ich dann doch nicht zur Hochzeit meiner Freundin fliegen. Gesundheitsbedingt. Aber das ist es was ich anziehen wollte. Ich habe es dann an meinem Geburtstag getragen. Etwas abgemildert mit einer grauen Bluse darunter und einem grauen Schal, braunen Absatzschuhen und einer kleinen Aktentasche.
