En mai nous avons le challenge petits pois vs fleurs. J’adore les deux mais je suis team pois. Avec des fraises parce que les mai c’est pour moi le mois de fraises fraîches. C’est aussi le mois de mon anniversaire.
In May we’ve got the challenge small dots vs flowers.  I love both of them but I am securely in team polka dots. with strawberries because may is for me the month of fresh strawberries. And it’s also the month of my birthday.

Ce joli chapeau de Frollein von Sofa est mon cadeau pour moi pour mon anniversaire. J’adore ces chapeau, j’ai trois: celui-ci avec les fraises, mon chapeaux vert avec les muguets et une jolie bergère.
This pretty hat by Frollein von Sofa is my very own birthday present for myself.  I love her hats I’ve got three: this one  the strawberries, the green one with the lilies of the valley and a pretty straw hat.

Les talons sont pas confortable mais très jolie aussi avec des fraises. Comme la broche et le pendentif. Les lunettes rouges ont des poist blancs. Les fraises et les petit pois c’est une combinaison naturelle.
The heels are not very comfortable but they are really pretty with the strawberries. The brooch and the pendant pick up that motive.  The red sunnies and the pencil skirt have both white polka dots. Strawberries and polka dots are a natural combination.

Les années 90s ne sont pas ma décade préféré. J’ai détesté d’avoir gagné trop des poids. Devenir une femme grosse. J’ai faisait des régimes radicales. Perdu et regagnée les kilos. Enfin je suis devenue plus et plus grande.
The 90s are definitely not my favourite decade. I hated having gained too many kilos. I became a fat woman. I made several radical diets. Lost and regained the pounds. And in the end I became bigger and bigger.

Pour la plus grande partie j’ai essayé de cacher moi. Devenir invisible. Quelque chose pas moi.
For the most part of the 90s I tried to hide myself. To become invisible. Something that isn’t really me.

Grunge n’était pas moi. Et c’est le première fois quand je me sens déguisée pour une challenge French Curves.
Grunge wasn’t me either. And this is the first time that I felt disguised for a challenge for the French curves.

Le Chat Noir est nouveau. Les lunettes et la casquette sont vieux et du début des années 90, les bracelets du fin. Retrouvé chez mes parents.
The black cat is new. The glasses and the newsboy cap are old and from the beginning of the 90s where as the pearl bracelets are from the very end. I found them back at my parents place.

Ready for the next road trip! After much admiring I finally bought Tammy, a hatbox shaped travel case in the January sales. Collectif does them in a few colours. British racing green made my vintage heart race.
Ich bin reisefertig – wohin fahren wir? Nach dem ich sie seit langem angeschmachtet hatte, habe ich im Winterschlussverkauf mir endlich Tammy gekauft, ein Köfferchen in Hutschachteloptik. Collectif stellt die in einigen Ausführungen her. Mein Favorit ist ein British Racing Green, ein klassisches Dunkelgrün.

For many of us a hatbox is one of the most quintessential vintage travel accessories. They just look the part. When I was in my early twenties I had to have one, too (actually two). Since I didn’t travel with large hats I used them as a bag.
Für viele von uns ist eine Hutschachtel das Vintagegepäckstück schlechthin. Anfang Zwanzig hatte ich sogar zwei davon. Da ich nicht mit grösseren hüten unterwegs war, hatte ich die als Reisetasche genutzt.

Bad idea. I put to much stuff in and the handles were not impressed and eventually broke. The Collectif travel case hatbox only looks like a hatbox. Structurally it isn’t. It is much sturdier. It probably won’t like though how I pack my bags. Which is very dense. I guess a bit of restraint will be in order.
Dumme Idee. Natürlich war ich immer mit viel zu vielen Sachen unterwegs und die Handgriffe gingen ab. Das Collectif-Köfferchen sieht nur so aus wie eine Hutschachtel, ist aber stabiler. Trotzdem sollte ich selbst das nicht in gewohnter Manier packen. Denn ich packe kompakt. Sehr kompakt.

The dress is a HellBunny dress that came out last winter. I love tartans and a dress with sleeves is always a good idea. I also love green. The dress makes the transition from Christmas to spring a smooth one. Crisp whites and lush greens make it a good choice for the season that returns the fresh foliage to the northern hemisphere.
Das Kleid ist aus der letzten Herbst/Winterkollektion von HellBunny. Ich liebe (Schotten-) Karos und ein Kleid mit Ärmeln ist selten verkehrt. Das Kleid schafft lässig den Übergang von Weihnachten zum Frühling. Kombiniert mit Blütenweiß und satten Grüntönen ist es eine hervorragende Wahl die wiederkehrende Belaubung zu feiern.

Last year I already celebrated my wonderful Lily of the valley hat by Frollein von Sofa on this blog: in a crisp white, sweet in pastell pistachio with polkadots and more cuddly with a tartan scarf.
Letztes Jahr wurde ich nicht müde meinen wunderschönen Maiglöckchenhut von Frollein von Sofa auf diesen Blog zu zeigen: mit einem strahlenden Cremeweiss, süss in einem hellen Pistaziengrün mit Pünktchen und etwas kuscheliger mit einem Karoschal.

The brooch isn’t vintage. But I like its vintage vibe. I got one for my mum and for two friends as well. It’ll be a fun thing to wear next weekend at Weiberkram XL in Neuss, a plussize 2nd hand clothes sale. We’ll have a stall there. It is time for me to sell a few things. Die Brosche ist nicht alt – aber sie hat diesen herrlich altmodischen Charme. Ich habe auch noch eine für meine Ma und zwei Freundinnen gekauft. So als Teambrosche für unseren Stand nächste Woche beim Weiberkram XL in Neuss. Das ist ein Plussize-Flohmarkt. Es wird mal wieder Zeit ein paar Kleider zu verkaufen. Wer neugierig ist kann schon mal bei Pinterest spingsen -aber es gibt natürlich noch viel, viel mehr!

This month is under the motto #GeekStyle. Dressing your inner geek can be fun. Most of us have facets.  Comparing people to coins with two sides is a bit to simplistic – I think most of us are more like diamonds. 

Back in November my English pen pal came for a visit. Sounds old school? Well, we first met in 1988.  Thirty years ago in summer.  We meet up occasionally. Unfortunately far too seldom. That is what I like about Facebook. It allows to share snippets of our lives with each other.

Late November can be quite miserable. And it was – still, we went to the Christmas market, the Ruhr Museum and had plenty of fun catching up. If you are in the region – the Ruhr Museum is worth a visit. Dinosaurs to mining lamps. They got it and the museum and exhibition style is stunning.

My friend told my outfit reminded her of Tom Baker as Dr. Who. Note so self: must get another stripey scarf. A few years ago I had a similar one. The fake fox scarf is super cute but it doesn’t really classify as a neckwarmer.

Les French Curves retournant avec #GirlBoss. Pour moi moins l’histoire du Sophia Amoruso de Nasty Gal mais un mélange de business et causal. Cool. Rétro. Faites vos propre règles. Habille  pour soi-même.

Le gilet et le jupe crayon noirs avec la blouse blanc sont classiques. Bien pour travailler dans un hôtel ou restaurant. Très stricte. Le bomber rose satin est super légère et girly. Quel contraste.
The black waist coat and pencil skirt and the white blouse are classics. Excellent to work in a hotel or many restaurants. Quite strict. The pink satin bomber jacket is seriously casual and very girly.

Le bomber est le dernier chose que j’ai acheté seulement pour un challenge. C’était dans le dernier an. Ok, apart des petites accessoires. Même ça est rare.

I am soo not a T-Shirt person. I only have a few – most of them are black. This month the theme of the Ue30 bloggers is t-shirts. Uhhhh, I struggle!
Ich bin sooo nicht der T-Shirt typ. Ich habe nur wenige – und die meisten davon sind schwarz. Diesen Monat geht es bei den Ü30-Bloggerinnen um das Thema T-Shirt. Yikes. Nicht meins.

Today it is two outfits in one post plus a giveaway. The giveaway is because this is a cooperation* with Names4ever and you can win the necklace I wear. Of course personalised for you. Would be daft for you to run around with a necklace with my name on. More about that later.
Heute gibt es zwei Outfits und ein Giveaway. Den Gewinn gibt es weil dies eine Kooperation* mit Names4ever ist und ihr könnt die gleiche Kette gewinnen, die ich trage. Natürlich mit eurem Namen. Schon ziemlich merkwürdig wenn ihr mit meinem Namen auf eurer Kette herumlaufen wolltet. Aber mehr über die Kette später.

Thema heute bei den German Curves ist Good Job – Kleide Dich zum Vorstellungsgespräch. Jetzt gibt es von der Agentur für Arbeit und vielen Zeitschiften Do’s and Don’ts. Ich finde die nur sehr oft nicht sehr branchenspezifisch.

Ich bin auch in einigen Facebookgruppen und ab und an kommt da die Frage „Was ziehe ich zum Vorstellungsgespräch an?“. Nun, auch wenn im semi-kreativen Bereich wie der Architektur, Stadtplanung und Landschaftsarchitektur andere Regeln gelten als bei der Sparkasse, so ist es immer gut etwas overdressed zu sein.

Es geht ja ums Vorstellungsgespräch und nicht eventuell ums Probearbeiten. Ich trage immer zu solchen Anlässen einen Rock oder ein Kleid. Immer eigentlich schmal geschnitten und diskret. Mindestens knielang. In schwarz oder grau. Absatzschuhe. Aber nicht zu hohe. Denn bei uns muss man auch mal auf Baustellen. Das zwar mit Sicherhheitsschuhen – aber es geht auch um den Eindruck, den man vermittelt.

In eine (Hand-) Tasche muss für mich immer, egal in welcher Branche, eine A4 Kladde mit eurem Lebenslauf hineingehen (können). Alles andere macht (nicht nur auf mich) einen wirklich guten Eindruck. Zumindest nicht dort, wo ich mich bis jetzt vorgestellt habe. Teilweise hat man bei uns noch eine Mappe dabei. Mittlerweile aber auch das Tablet mit einer Bildschirmpräsentation.

Mein Bereich der Baubranche ist ein semi-kreativer Bereich – da sollte man auch bei seiner Bewerbung nicht nur die Zeugnisse beifügen sondern halt auch Arbeitsproben. Das ist leider nicht immer der Fall. Steht ja auch kaum in Bewerbungsratgebern. Denn die gehen oft von einem kaufmännischem Hintergrund aus.

Handskizzen schaden nicht – wenn die halbwegs gut aussehen!

Mit den Accessoires habe ich mich an die Regel gehalten nicht mehr als 5 Schmuckstücke: zwei Ohrringe, einen Ring, eine Brosche und eine neutrale Uhr. Ich trage zwar fast nie eine, macht aber immer einen guten Eindruck. Von wegen Zeitmanagement und so. Die Brosche darf etwas Spass machen, ist aber noch nicht zu verspielt.

Die Tasche trage ich bewusst über kreuz, auch wenn das nicht unbedingt mega vorteilhaft ist. Durch die Mappe habe ich aber so immer noch eine Hand frei – zur Begrüssung und für Türen!

Später, nach ein paar Jahren im Beruf, hat man bei uns in der Landschaftsarchitektur dann auch Projektfotos, die man zeigen kann. Zumindest wenn man nicht primär an Wettbewerben teilgenommen hat.

Wie hier „mein“ Wasserspiel in Essen:

oder ein Hausgarten in England.

Mein letztes Vorstellungsgepsräch ist schon einige Jahre her – und das war auch etwas unorthodox. Nach dem Studium hatte ich ca. 15 (in Deutschland). Auf dem Höhepunkt von Generation Praktikum. Eine feste Stelle konnte mir keiner bieten. Dafür freie Mitarbeit.

Für Vorstellungsgespräche eigentlich nie, aber auch für wichtige Besprechungen nehme ich selten roten Lippenstift. Diskretes Makeup ist dann bei mir angesagt.

Ich bin dann nach dem Studium nach England gegangen. Die hatten damals noch einen Bauboom. Und ich acht Vorstellungsgespräche in fünf Tagen zwischen Dover und Manchester. Letztenendes habe ich mich für das spannendste Büro in Manchester entschieden.
