Ü30: Spring – New Life Sprouts

Time to join the ladies from the ü30 blogger network for this month’s theme „Sping – New Life Sprouts“. So here comes springtime on my head and out there!.

This is an original 1950s floral half hat.
Das hier ist ein Blumen-Hütchen (half hat) aus den 1950ger Jahren.

Politics ain’t alway pretty – but as a woman at least you can wear a fancy hat while doing it

And this was its‘ last owner – Helen Delich Bentley, former republican US Congresswoman, maritime reporter + TV moderator, lobbyist and lover of hats. One of my lovely American vintage crazy ladies I met last winter in Vegas helped raise funds by selling some of Bentley’s hats for the Baltimore Museum of Industry (abbreviated BMI – yep, most of us associate that with the Body Mass Index – but that’s acronmys for you). Helen Delich Bentley was a remarkable woman AND had an amazing collection of hats, especially (floral) ones of the 1960s.

Gorgeous crocusses in Gelsenkirchen.

More vintage – this is a fun and cheap 1950s celluloid brooch in a lace pattern.

And a charming enamel Lisner bracelet with pink and pale blue striped rhinestones and tiny aurora boeralis ones.

My mum’s tulips for the Easter table.
Die Tulpen meiner Ma für den Ostertisch.

Snapshots of my look this Easter Sunday – the amber bracelet, the brooch and the handbag are vintage, the rest is repro/ retro. The magnolia dress has been featured on this blog before.

At the end of this post is a Link-Up – hopefully you are curious what the others already posted about Springtime – they are (mostly) in German though.

Singing in the Rain – hallo Frühling

Who doesn’t love a good coat? You might remember this gorgous coat in mustard yellow from two years ago. It got too large – not really a problem in winter with a nice fleece jacket underneath for warmth but less than ideal now. English only today.

Very Cinderella – this is from Miss Candyfloss new Grace Kelly collection. The Lorin in Regia, a princessy pale blue with a sumpteous pink satin lining.

Roses and Leopard – the pretty umbrella is not only true vintage but it used to my (maternal) Grandmother’s.

London calling – the cute but rather small bag is another cool one from vendula – like my cute bike shop and the much admired sushi restaurant bag. The details are always amazing.

From Dawn into the Night – some pictures from my rambles. The sloes are currently in bloom and the willow buds are ever so pretty.

Far from the Pyrenees – a young woman at the train station said I remind her of the girls from Beauxbaton – and I had to look that up – They make quite an entry in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

So, do you like my new coat?

Partygirl & Studio54 (exhibition)

November used to be one hell of a month to go out – before all the Christmas do’s in December. I bought that (cheap looking) fake fur jacket in the UK. It was on sale for 20 pounds. A warm, easily recognizable jacket that didn’t mind being chucked behind benches. And it saw quite a few parties, swish bars and dodgy pubs in Manchester. What could have been more appropriate to wear to the now closed Studio54 exhibition in Dortmund? Ok, maybe something with sequins.

The Studio54 exhibition (read the Guardian article about the opening in Brooklyn) in Dortmund was a visusal and audible feast. So start the music, relax and enjoy the show!

Dance, baby, dance!

And then there was a white horse! The perfect instagrammable picture point to recreate Bianca Jagger’s iconic birthday party at Studio54 hosted by none other than Andy Warhol and all I could do was take a selfie.

Very 80s – the dangling leopard brooch – a nod to Cartier’s Panthère collection.

– in Anlehnung an Cartiers Panthère Kollektion.

I miss going out!

Back to School – die Ferien sind vorbei

I seriously love my tartans. This one is a fairly new addition and completely unaltered. You might remember the dress in duck egg blue with a Sakura pattern. The holidays are over now and autumn is approaching.

Yeah – it made me think a little bit about Clueless. Even if that film was never something I liked. I relly enjoed Legally Blonde though.

Scream Queen? Now T-Rex and the other dinosaurs have left Bochum. DinoCity2 was good fun – not just for the kids.

Opferrolle?

Fun Fact: those pictures were taken during my recent stay in Höxter. At the place where I studied landscape architecture and environmental planning. My Grandfather also studied in „the place with an X“. He was a civil engineer though.

ü30 Blogger + Friends – Sommerparty – the Cycling Cowgirl

Time to join the ladies from the ü30 blogger network for this month’s theme „Summer Party“ – that made me instantly think about hay-rides and BBQs.

My very first Cowboy Boots – despite growing up in the 80s these are my first Cowboy boots. Leather with leather lining and woven leather with embroidery. Plus an uncharacteristic zipper for a fit close to the ankles. Excellent quality – they are at least 3rd hand.

Gute Qualität, mindestens in dritter Hand.

Prickly as a cactus – the cheep and cheerful brooch is well hidden but picks up the theme rather nicely.

Buckle Up! I love 50s novelty prints – the rodeo pattern is super cute and has even tiny UFOs on them – hello Roswell and Area 51.

Sattelfest!

Yehaaaaa! I’d be so ready for Vegas, chucks. My American vintage gals are planning a trip to Vegas in November. I am soo jealous. Hopefully I can meet a few of them next year.

Yehaaaa!

Howdy Stranger. No make-up. Meeting a friend after work for authentic Mexican food. There is acutally a dress hidden under the blouse.

Hallo Fremder. Ungeschminkt.

Viva Mexico! Yep no BBQ, but sometimes life alters best made plans. The TequilaRia (website only in German) has scrumptious Mexican food (and drinks) – I went as a starter for the Sopa de Lima – the seriously hot Yucatan lime soup and had to have the Nachos Tapas as a guilty pleasure (with beef and chicken undder the cheese). Do come hungry.

Viva Mexico!

My hay-rides are on my bike though, cycling around in the countryside. Sans rolling through the hay. That day took a friend and me through more than 50k of Münsterland and I managed to find the only hill available for miles.

At the end of this post is a Link-Up – I am already curious what the others will post to Summer Party – they are in German though.

Roman Holiday – Italian Garden Delights

This month is about garden delights. starting with my lovely tomato fascinator in an outfit that pays hommage to the 1950s classic movie Roman Holiday. Unfortunately no vespa ride with Gregory Peck for me – but I recently cleaned my two bikes.

I got the bag for Christmas. I first came across Save My Bag at the Panorama Fair during the January 2015 Fashion Week in Berlin. A nod to the classic Birkin bag but made of a light neoprene. Finally a bag that doesn’t need wheels when filled up. It comes in a variety of colours and it is tough to decide on just one.

The exquisite tomato hat is by Frollein von Sofa. Bought at a flash sale. The tomatos look and feel very real. And unlike any millinery confection with cupcakes or similar things I feel fine with fruit or veg. Either as a pattern or on my head.

A pea brooch – vintage style with a true vintage 1960s scarf.

Green Tartan for Christmas

HoHoHo – are you already in a festive mood? The Christmas season is here again. The Christmas market is open and I already had two pinaple skewers covered in white chocolate. No mulled wine yet, though.

Such a pretty dress – I love my tartans, I have this dress in red, too and have shown it on this blog in April with bright greens.

The fur is vintage – the cuffs are made of an old fake fur scarf. The collar is actually a 1950s blonde mink scarf pinned to my dress.

I sorted my Christmas jewellry. Half the brooches are vintage. All of the earrings are new(ish). The bracelet is my first bit of festive jewellry, bought in 2003.

Guess tomorrow I’ll start operation Christmas tree. So far I haven’t decided if it’ll be the black or the white Christmas tree this year.

On the Go: Autumn Colours – Mustard meets Plaid

Autumn is finally here! Talking about survival of the fittest –  the dress got extra pockets, the sleeves are taken in and the buttons are mostly closed for good. I think the waist is too high for my taste but it is nice to have a discreet dress.

My friendly, diligent and patient tailor also altered an old mink scarf into a collar. The collar is not permanently attaced to the dress. It is still easily washable.

And an old favourite of mine from a German poem about the golden autumn and gilding it with wine:

Der Nebel steigt, es fällt das Laub;
Schenk ein den Wein, den holden!
Wir wollen uns den grauen Tag
Vergolden, ja vergolden!

This October the theme of the French curves is yellow vs orange. They are the colours of the sun as well as quintessential autumn colors. The colours of the dieing leaves. Of nature’s grand finale in our climate.

Moi j’aime bien l’orange.
I really like orange. Such a striking colour. Here with a minimalism look or last year with an outfit for an urban huntress. More traditional with florals or a bit eccentric with jolly flamingos.

But yellow is true love. From pastel to a honey the with a hint of orange to a deep mustard yellow. The two looks go very well with some heirlooms from my grandmothers.

And the there is the pic of the baby boy godchild. In a perfectly instagramable room (and a very good exhibiton) I took happy baby pics and somewhat forgot my own. This snapshot is made by a good friend.

Oktoberfest Craze meets Gingham Love

A final contribution to my Oktoberfest Craze series I usually reserve for September. Gingham, checks and tartans work well with a traditional (mock) dirndl look. A real dirndl is still a costly thing despite cheap knock-ups. So this pretty Heidi dress with the deep square neckline fits the bill pretty well.

I combined the dress with a traditional Russian scarf and a vintage tapestry bag. The floral crown is a cheap one. If you are not going to a country wedding but the fair and the more rustic beer tents.
