Pantone hat wieder eine Farbe des Jahres ins Rennen geschickt – Ultra Violet. Letztes Jahr was das Greenery. Das warme Grün war mehr meines. Trotzdem mag ich Lila, Purpur oder Violett. Eher die wärmeren Töne. Ultra Violet is kalt. Pantone picked another colour of the year – ultra violet. Last year it was greenery. I liked the warm green a bit better. Still I quite like purple, violet and lilac. But more the warmer shades. Ultra Violet is cold.
Die Farbe Lila steht oft für das Mystische und Geheimnisvolle. Für Kreativität. In der Kirche findet sie Einsatz zu Advents- und Fastenzeit. Letzteres passt doch ausnehmend gut. Karneval ist gerade vorbei. Lila ist auch die Farbe des Feminismus – und auch das passt gut zu mir. The colour purple is often used within a mystic or mysterious context. For creativity. The Church uses it during Advent and Lent. Quite matching since carinval is just less than a week ago. Purple is also the colour of suffrage and feminism. And that is befitting, too.
Geek Style in Ultra Violet
Mein eigenes Thema diesen Monat ist Geek Style. Dazu passt das eigenwillige Lila sehr gut. Der deutsche Farbname Lila kommt übrigens vom Flieder (Lilas), via Spanien und Frankreich. Das Wort Violett kommt Veilchen. Das fand ich auch sehr passend und habe meine Veilchenbrosche herausgesucht. My own theme this month is geek style. The headstrong violet works quite well with that. So does the vintage brooch with violets.
Die Karobrosche hat mit den Keulenärmeln einen sehr viktorianischen Touch, das Kleid erinnert mich an die Schuluniformen und die Krawatte an das King’s College in Cambridge und mehrere Besuche in der traditionsreichen Universität Stadt. The gingham blouse with the mutton chop statement sleeves has quite a victorian touch, the pinafore dress reminds me of school uniforms and the tie of King’s College in Cambridge and a few visits to the venerable university city.

Le janvier est pour moi le plus triste mois de l’année. Les lumières et les décorations de Noël retourent au sous-sol. Il fait froid et c’est encore trop sombre. January is for me the most dreary month of the year. The christmas lights and decorations have returned to the basement. It is cold and it is still too dark for my taste. Et pour cette raison c’est très important pour moi de me habiller pas seulement chaud mais chic et joyeuse. La jupe avec les chats n’est pas serieuse. Très jolie pour un dimanche. Pour manger les sushis avec des amis. Il y a même des poissons sur l’imprime de la jupe. Les couleurs sont bien pour l’hiver (mais aussi pour l’été). That is why it is even more important for me in January to dress not only warm but chic and cheerful. The cat skirt is definitely playful. Perfect for a sunday. Especially when going out for sushi with friends. (Hey, there are even fishies on the print).The colours are great for winter (and good for summer, too).
Le grand foulard est très doux et chaud et il va super avec pleine des couleurs. The plaid is seriously soft and warm and it goes with so many colours.

A dirndl isn’t just for Oktoberfest. Though technically this isn’t really a dirndl. The corsage is proper traditional alpine style and the skirt is from LindyBop. I wear a pin up blouse underneath. Ein Dirndl ist nicht nur was fürs Oktoberfest. Auch wenn das hier streng genommen kein Dirndl ist. Es ist eine Kombination aus einem Trachtenmieder und einem Retrorock mit alpinem Bordürendruck. Darunter trage ich eine Pin-Up-Bluse.
I had a dress from the same fabric. But the waist was too high and the skirt too long. And since that couldn’t be altered, I sold it. Ich hatte schon einmal ein Kleid aus diesem Stoff. Leider war die Taille zu hoch und der Rock zu lang. Und daran war nichts zu ändern. Deswegen habe ich es beim Weiberkram XL in Neuss verkauft.
And just to show off we had a bit of snow for the pictures. Looks so much more appropriate. The withe dashs and shirt stripes are snow – it was still snowing as we took the pics. Und um die Stimmung abzurunden hatten wir prompt auch noch etwas Schnee. Das passte doch ganz hervorragend.Die kleinen weissen Punkte und kurzen Striche sind übrigens Schnee. Es schneite noch als wir die Bilder aufgenommen haben.

In Germany Halloween is more and more becoming a thing. Though over here our costumes tend to be on the spooky side. If you want to be red riding hood your are the zombie one. For non spooky costumes many areas have carnival earlier in the year. In Deutschland nimmt Halloween jedes Jahr ein bisschen mehr Fahrt auf. Ich mag das. Im gegensatz zu Karneval sind die Kostüme mehr in Richtung Monster- oder gruselig. Auch nett mal seine dunkele Seite herauszulassen. Zumindest für mich.
This is one of three looks for carnival this year. The other one was the French Maid. Which is basically just a variaton. The feather duster is homemade. Also easily transformed into something darker. And I also went for one night as a „geisha“. Das hier ist eines von drei Karnevalskostümen von diesem Jahr. Die Variation hierzu war das Stubenmädchen, die French-Maid. Der Staubwedel ist selbstgemacht. Auch ein Kostüm das man leicht eine dunkele Seite geben kann. Und dann war ich noch „Geisha“ für eine Nacht.
Back to Halloween: the cat is an easy look – I am not a big fan of big make-up. Halloween or carnival. If you go to a big party it’ll be warm. Really warm. Quite often humind too. I turn easily especially when dancing is involved into a sweaty mess. The whiskers and the nose are made with waterproof eyeliner. Zurück zu Halloween: die Katze ist ein einfacher Look. Ich bin kein grosser Fan von ausufernder Gesichtsbemalung. Weder zu Karneval noch zu Halloween. Bei den meisten Parties oder Feiern ist es warm, viel zu warm warm und schnell auch mal schwülfeucht. Vor allem wenn dann noch getanzt wird, fliesst bei mir alles weg. Deswegen sind auch Schnurrhaare und Nase mit wasserfestem Eyeliner aufgemalt.

Summer is gone. It is Autumn. And suddenly we have a few glorious warm days again. And it is finally time to post this wonderful outfit. Looks more casual this way than last summer. Der Sommer ist vorbei. Es ist Herbst. Und doch hatten wir ein paar wunderschöne warme Tage. Es ist endlich Zeit dieses Outfit mit Euch zu teilen. Diesmal trage ich das Kleid etwas lässiger.
The pics were taken in the dunes of Borkum. It is a maritime outfit for cooler days. I love the little jeyy basket. So much fun. But for practicality I put a scarf in there as lining. It’s hot and it’s humid. So what is closer to pick a matching theme for a challenge in one of my favourite Facebook groups. I was allowed to pick the motto, as I won the last round.
Es ist heiss, es ist schwül. Was liegt näher als ein passendes Thema für eine Challenge in einer meiner liebsten Facebookgruppen. Ich durfte das Thema aussuchen, denn ich war die Gewinnerin der letzten Runde.
So: out with the flower chains, tropical patterns. Hawaii shirts. Palm leaf prints. A bit of exotic. Flowers in their hair. A bit of travel bug. A bit of nostalgia. Tiki, tropical or exotic became the theme.
Also: Blumenketten raus, tropische Muster. Hawaii Hemden. Palmblätterprints. Ein Hauch Exotik. Blumen im Haar. Eine Priese Fernweh, Reise-Exotik, vielleicht sogar etwas Nostalgie. Tiki, tropisch oder exotisch wurde das Thema.
It didn’t have to be straw skirts or coconut bikinis. The contributions could just be Pimms with a few accessories. A look for every day. An outfit for the beach. And even in your favourite bar. For a barbecue with friends.
Es mussten kein Baströckchen sein, kein Kokosnuss-Bikini. Die Beitrag konnten mit ein paar Accessoires gepumpt sein – oder aber ein Look für den Alltag. Ein Outfit für den Strand. Für den Abend in der Lieblingsbar. Zum Grillen mit Freunden.

I moved my blog post for the challenge back. This dress (and bolero) were actually two. In my own size it was way too small and even in the larger, the biggest size it was still too snug.
Ich habe meinen Blogpost für die Challenge um eine Woche nach hinten geschoben. Das Kleid (und der Bolero) waren eigentlich zwei. Es war in meiner eigentlichen Größe viel zu eng und auch in der größeren und letzten Größe immer noch zu knapp.
For a purchase price of €15 I send me the the one or the other back. I brought them to my tailor to make one out of two. Even if you know this is hard to spot.
Für einen Anschaffungspreis von 15 EUR habe ich aber weder das eine noch das andere zurückgeschickt, sondern zu meiner Änderung getragen. Mein Schneider hat dann aus zwei Kleidern eines gemacht. Selbst wenn man das weis, sieht man das kaum.

What I love about our time is that it was never easier to get exciting things from all over the world to your place. A dress from the US, shoes from China and images from all corners on Instagram.
And yet, despite beautiful clothing that became available most people dress not to impress but because it is „ohhh so practical“. Especially when not required to meet office standards it gets pretty dire off hours.
If you combine off hours with holidays especially at the coast you’ll get hordes of people that look like you could drop them off into the wilderness (or at least the next hiking path). Coastal places like Borkum – which is actually an island, boast about their habitats for seals or other wildlife. But they also seem to be natural hotspots for the fleece jacket. Not just during the day, they also dominate in the evening.
What happened to changing into something more sophisticated or at least a whiff more special in the evening for going out?
I am a clothes horse. Been one for mosts parts of my life. Only at times when I had issues with myself I neglected to enjoy dressing. There are a few years in my life when that was the case and quite often weight gain was involved.
Ich liebe Kleidung. Das war eigentlich schon fast immer so. Nur zu Zeiten, in denen ich mich selber nicht mag, kümmert es mich auch wenig, was ich anziehe. Es gab immer wieder einige Jahre in meinem Leben als das der Fall war. Meist ging das mit Gewichtszunahme einher.
There were some years in my 20s when I wanted to be invisible. And dressed like everyone else. Like good fat people did in the late 90s. Loose shirts ending between my thighs and my knees. Hardly any skirts, let alone dresses.
Es gab einige Jahre in meinen Zwanzigern da wollte ich unsichtbar sein. Und ich lief herum wie alle anderen auch. Zumindest wie alle anderen guten Dicken in den späten 90gern. Weite Oberteile, die irgendwo zwischen Oberschenkel und Knie aufhörten. Fast keine Röcke und vor allem keine Kleider.
It all changed in my late 20s, not long before I turned 30. I discovered webpages from the US. With clothes that were a far cry from what I was used to. And H&M had good and fun things in their back then relatively new plus size department. I picked up a taste for fashion and slowly wore more fitted clothes. Baby steps. A lot of them.
Das änderte sich in meinem in späteren Zwanzigern, kurz bevor ich 30 wurde. Ich hatte Webseiten aus den Staaten entdeckt. Mit Kleidung, die meilenweit von dem entfernt war was ich für meine Größe kannte. H&M hatte damals in der Plussize-Abteilung noch spannende Sachen. Ich hatte wieder Gefallen an der Kleidung für mich gefunden. An der Mode. Und fing ganz langsam an figurnähere Sachen zu tragen. In vielen kleinen und zaghaften Schritten.
I love fashion though. When I was 14 or 15 I even dug up the Barbies again and created clothes for them inspired by the latest Haute Couture trends from Paris. These days I really love a 1950s vintage style. Because it flatters my shape. I get a lot of appreciation from random strangers and almost half of them are female.
Ich liebe Mode. Auch wenn ich einige Jahre irgendwie außen vor war. Mit 14 oder 15 habe ich sogar noch einmal die Barbies hervorgeholt. Die bekamen dann Sachen, die den neusten Haute Couture Trends aus Paris entsprachen. Seit einigen Jahren trage ich einen 1950ger Jahre inspirierten Vintagelook. Und ich bekomme sehr sehr viel Zustimmung dafür auch von völlig Fremden, und fast die Hälfte davon sind Frauen.
I love colours and novelty prints. The Venice skirt fits that bill perfectly. A few years ago I wore a lot of flowers to my outfits. The yellow rose is a nod to that. I do love accessories. The „hatbox“ handbag is quite often decorated with some fun stuff – like these shoes. Not really Barbiesized, think Crossdresser Ken. The necklace is vintage.
Ich liebe Farben und so genannte Novelty Prints. Vor einigen Jahren habe ich zu fast jedem Outfit ein Ansteckblume getragen. Die gelbe Rose kommt noch aus der Zeit. Ich mag Accessoires – die Hutschachtel-Handtasche bekommt gerne noch einen Akzent, wie dieser Schuhanhänger. Weniger was für Barbie, die Grösse ist mehr für Crossdresser-Ken. Die Kette ist alt, und passt auch um den Hals.

It’s the first Sunday of the month and time again for the German Curves. This month it is a theme that really excites me „Fly me to the Moon“. There are many versions of this classic song. The challenge is about metallic, glitter, galaxy prints, silver and futuristic look.
Es ist mal wieder der erste Sonntag im Monat und damit wieder Zeit für die German Curves. Diesen Monat ich ich besonders angetan von unserem Thema „Fly me to the Moon“. „Fly me to the Moon“ ist ein klassischer Song. Bei unserer Challenge geht es aber um Metallic-Effekte, Galaxydrucke, Glitzer, Silber und futuristische Looks.
There is hardly a better place in the Ruhr area for space exploration than Bochum. We got an observatory and a planetarium. The Zeiss planetarium Bochum has an excellent program, modern equipment, a very commited director and her dedicated team. They got a new show this year and I am gutted that I won’t be able to attend the opening night.
Still, despite that the planetarium makes me think of the late 50s, early 60s. The so called space age. The believe that the future will be a brighter, happier and wealthier place. The firm believe in science and progress, in technological advancements. Today an increasing number is sceptic of science, against vaccinations and eager for hairsplitting conspiracy theories.
Und doch erinnert mich das Planetarium an die späten 1950ger und frühen 1960ger. An die Atomzeit. An einen ungebremsten Fortschrittsglauben, dass die Zukunft eine strahlende wird. Voller Wohlstand und Glück und technischer Weiterentwicklung. Heute haben wir eine zunehmende Skepsis der Wissenschaft gegenüber, immer mehr Impfgegner und haarsträubende Verschwörungstheorien.
But science is the very foundation of the comfort and infrastructure we enjoy today. No matter how firm you believe in whatever deity, prayers didn’t give us the Internet, modern medicine or public transport. Although the latter tests my patience on a regular basis.
Aber die Wissenschaft bildet die Grundlage für den Komfort und die Infrastruktur, die wir heute haben. Und keine Gebete zu welcher Gottheit auch immer haben uns das Internet, die moderne Medizin oder den öffentlichen Nahverkehr geschenkt. Auch wenn mich letzter öfters zur Verzweiflung bringt.
So when the theme was announced for the German Curves, I instantly knew what I wanted to wear (again). Again? Well, I have worn this outfit for the opening Motto party of Kurvenrausch’s Plussize Days in Hamburg in October 2016. Back then it was „Black, Gold and all that Glitters“.
Als das Thema für den April feststand wusste ich auch direkt was ich (wieder) anziehen würde. Wieder? Ich hatte dieses Outfit zur Eröffnungsparty von Kurvenrauschs Plussize Fashion Days im Oktober 2016 in Hamburg getragen. Damals war das Motto „Black, Gold and all that Glitters“.
The dress is my trusted Audrey this time in black satin. Combined with a galaxy (actually a nebula) loop scarf. Which I always wear to the planetarium. Like here to the festive 50th anniversary celebration or here to the opening of their Jules Verne Show. The petticoat os too short – I just realised that when I edited the pics. Das Kleid ist mein bewährtes Audrey Kleid – diesmal in schwarzem Satin. Kombiniert mit einem Loopschal im Galaxydruck (eigentlich ein Sternennebel). Den ziehe ich immer an wenn ich ins Planetarium gehe. Wie hier zur 50.-Jahrfeier des Planetariums oder hier zur Eröffnung der Jules-Verne-Show. Das Petticoat ist zu kurz – leider ist mir das erst bei der Bildbearbeitung aufgefallen.
The real showstopper of the outfit is the little retro rocket. I adopted it from Accessorize in Berlin while changing trains to get from one place to another at the Winter Fashion Week 2016. Unfortunately it isn’t roomy at all. Der eigentliche Hingucker ist die kleine Retro-Rakete. Gefunden im Vorbeigehen während des Umsteigens in Berlin während der Winter Fashionweek 2016. Leider geht da nur wenig hinein.
The shoes are high, even better – they glitter. Die Schuhe sind nicht nur hoch, sie glitzern auch!
The fascinator with lurex is another one of my own. I made it for New Years Eve 2015/2016. It gets quite a bit of mileage. Der Fascinator mit Lurex ist einer von meinen Selbstgemachten. Hergestellt für Silvester 2015/2016 gehört er zu den recht oft getragenen aus meiner Sammlung.
I wish I know where I put this bracelet (part of the 2014 Geekchic at the Planetarium Outfit). I got the nagging feeling that I need a replacement. I used to wear it a lot before I put it somewhere safe so that I didn’t loose it. Leider weiss ich nicht genau wo ich dieses Armband hin getan habe (gehört zum 2014 Geekchic at the Planetarium Outfit) . Ich fürchte ich muss mir das wohl noch mal kaufen. Ich habe es viel und gerne getragen bevor ich es an einem sicheren Ort abgelegt hatte, damit ich es nicht verliere…

Thème du mars pour les French Curves est Candy. Comme les bonbons. Je n’a pas beaucoup des choses en couleurs bonbon. J’ai vendue cette robe là. Mais j’ai trouvé quelquechose dans ma garderobe. Theme of the French Curves Fashion Challenge in March is Candy. As in Sweets. I don’t have a lot in candy colours. And I sold that dress. But I found something in my wardrobe.
Les pantoufles de Frollein von Sofa s’appellent Candy. Ils sont du velours (thème du février) rouge et ont des bonbons rose scintillant. J’adore la creativité de la Frollein. Elle fait des petits chapeaux et ils sont une veritable fête. These Mules from Frollein von Sofa are called Candy. They are made of bright red velvet (february’s theme) and got lovely sparkling pink sweets on top. Anyway I adore the creativity of the Frollein. She makes striking and adorable mini hats. They are a veritable feast.
Mais j’aime bien mes petits chapeaux. Le dernier est inspiré par la Frollein. Et je le fait pour le challenge Candy. Pas mal pour un vieux couverture d’un coussin et un morceau de cotton rose strié. I’ll stick to my fascinators. I just like to make these mini hats. The latest one is inspred by the Frollein for the Candy challenge. Not bad for an old pillow case and a bit of stripey pink cotton.
Comme j’ai déjà dit je n’a pas beaucoup des choses en couleurs bonbon. Le rose fort va très bien avec le rouge vivant. Rose dans tout ses variations et noir sont toujours une bonne idée. Le top peplum et la jupe crayon sont très formal et un joli contraste avec les mules. Like I already said before I don’t own a lot of things in candy colours. The bright pink works rather well with the vibrant red. Pink (in all of its shades)and black are always a good idea. The peplum top and the pencil skirt are quite formal and a nice contrast to the playful mules.
