The German 30plusBloggers meet again to a blog parade – today’s theme is presents you love.

When the motto was chosen I knew instantly what I wanted to show: my blue gingham handbag. It is an excellent addition to my self chosen monthly theme Maritime Fun ,I  have worn it before with my crab skirt.

My good friend Pam gave me that handbag 2016 for Christmas. A fab bag. Perfect for summer. For me checks, tartans and ginghams are neutral patterns. Bye-bye blue garage door – today the parents will hand over the keys to our old house.

Ich bin mal gespannt was uns die anderen so zeigen!
I am looking forward to what the others will show. It will be (mostly) in German though.

Maritime Fun – Sailing Away in Royal Blue

Maritime Fun returns in a clear royal blue. Both the dress and the top are trusted wardrobe staples. I wear that dress usually to the footie. The top is something I usually wear at home paired with capri jeans. Outfit No.1 is very typical for me – the second look is without the hat quite normal.

Maritime Fun: Casual Friday

Ahoy July – welcome to a month of looks inspired by the sea and shore, sailors and landlubbers alike. Something for the beach, the boat, a day around the harbour or just to sooth the longing for the coast or open waters.

Summer and maritime looks go hand in hand and each year we see the revival of a theme that never really dies. In my office more or less every day is Casual Friday. Actually that is the case in most offices in landscape architecture.

I have shown this dress before for an alpine style – and it is quite versatile with its red and white houndstooth pattern. The pale blue blouse, bag and ballerinas push toward a maritime colouring. It is a variation of my crispy seaside look.

The accessories make the look really keel over: earrings with tiny boats, the stripey anchor necklace, new and old brooches and the true vintage scarf from the 60s or 70s with the sleek sailboats (and seagulls) as well as the (mock?) coral bracelet.
Koralle.

Crispy Seaside

Summer is gone. It is Autumn. And suddenly we have a few glorious warm days again. And it is finally time to post this wonderful outfit. Looks more casual this way than last summer.

The pics were taken in the dunes of Borkum. It is a maritime outfit for cooler days. I love the little jeyy basket. So much fun. But for practicality I put a scarf in there as lining.

Sailor Look – Fall edition

Marine Looks sind ein Dauerbrenner im Sommer. Eigentlich jeden Sommer. Nun ist der Sommer vorbei. Es ist Herbst. Und ich bin an der Nordsee. Genauer auf Borkum. Lange Strände. Hochseeklima.
Navy outfits somehow make it back each and every summer. But summer is over. Fall or Autumn is here. And I am by the North Sea. On the island of Borkum to be precise. Long beaches. Climate of the open sea.

This summer I created for the French Curves a Sailor Look and another more casual one for DIY your Closet. Now was it is colder it is a bit more wrapped up. A bit like an onion in a 50s style.misskittenheel-vintage-plussize-dolly-dotty-tartan-anna-stewart-navy-marine-autumn-02

Once more it is the 16th of the month and the first time I officially take part in the French Curves Challenge.

The French Curves were created by The Curvy and the Curly Closet. Each month dozens of curvy French speaking bloggers take part in the challenge. The mission: to create an outfit around a shared theme, in our own styles. This challenge celebrates the diversity we have, our different body types and sizes.

A nautical look (without jeans) was it to be – and that made me smile. Especially since that is something I don’t do a lot and already planned it for another post this months. That time it was „Sailor Girl“ for „DIY your Closet“ a project by Kathastrophal and MeinFeenstaub. This time I wear a dress with matching jacket from LindyBop. The Maybelle, more 60s than 50s, very elegant. Very Jackie Kennedy.

For the day I combine the dress with a sweater from Collectif Clothing. The Fair-Isle made of cotton instead of wool is intended as winter wear. However I think it is much better suited for a not so niche summer day at the coast – think Normandy, Cornwall, Belgium, Germany or Sweden. The much loved straw tote I got last year sports a little red scarf with seagulls and 70s boats. The ballerina „chucks“ are by Deichmann. My feet are way to warm to spend more on such shoes. They find themselves very, very fast and often in the washing machine.

The other outfit is for the evening. With a big square scarf. Sailing boats, nautical knots are on a base of navy silk. Got it with a few other scarfes from the 60s. The brooch (like the little red scarf) was thrifted in Alsace (probalby as far as you can get in France from the coast). The red heels are a bit too high for my taste. It is actually the first time they left my flat.

DIY your Closet: Sailor Girl

It’s another second Sunday of the month. Today isn’t only mother’s day  in Germany but also the day for DIY your Closet. It’s about making your own things or in my case to upcylce or customise. I made another fascinator in April but today I chose a shirt from the current Sheego collection.

misskittenheel vintage curvy plussize DIYyourCloset Sheego SailorGirl 01

Waaaaas? Du nimmst ein niegelnagelneues Shirt? Yep.
Whaaat? You take a spiffing new shirt? Yep. And she is to blame: Retrochick with a tutorial how to turn a regular T-Shirt into a Bardot-top. I also cropped the sleeves and altered the hem. This way it suits and fits me better.

That bit is important for me – make your clothes fit you. Most times I take my things to the seamstress for that. I get extra buttons, most of my dresses, pants or skirts are shortened, taken in at the waist or even get pockets, with some blazers sleeves were shortened. I am a regular customer. I am pretty conservative in my own way when it comes to clothing – it has to flatter, bring out my advantages. I don’t really care about trends.

Mit wesentlich vergrössertem Ausschnitt.
Much wider neckline.

The shirt is a bit more casual for me than you are used to. I liked it when I first saw it in January at the Curvy in Berlin. I think it is perfect for a day at the beach or a stroll over the market. I’d even wear it to go sailing without feeling to naff. The tote was a little extra from Dolly and Dotty with my featured tartan dress and I love it to bits. It is a favourite when I go shopping and the red is always ace with a maritime look. You’ll find out in a good week why I consider this quite funny!

Mit abgerundetem Saum und kürzeren Ärmeln.
The hem is rounded and the sleeves are shorter.

they spakle like hell!

Anyway – time to go to the last football match of the season. I’ll stick to the blue-white but with a polkadot dress. Fortunately with the lovely sunny summer weather without three layers of clothing above and below. Maybe even with my light blue petticoat that usually stays at home.
