Ü30 Blogger & Friends: Lieblingscocktail(s) – Favorite Cocktails

When the theme for this month ü30 blogparade was set I knew instantly what I’d wear with it. The question about my favourite cocktail is a bit trickier and goes beyond shaken or stirred. Like so often in life it depends on location.

In a good bar I like to try something new. Or an old love from my teens: the minty after-dinner-cocktail Grasshopper. In most places (and recipes) the peppermint flavour is too strong. I don’t need a mouthwash in a bar. At home I like to replace the cream with vanilla ice and only take half of the mint liqueur recommended elsewhere.

Steph’s Grasshopper
4 cl Crème de Cacao ( white clear chocolate liqeur / weisser , klarer Kakaolikör)
2 cl Crème de Menthe (green / grün)
4 cl cream / Sahne or Vanilla Ice cream / Vanilleeis
Shake in a mixer with ice cubes and strain into a chilled glass. Use a blender to mix it with vanilla ice and when following the recipe like to whip the cream first.

The Picture was taken with a dark Crème de Cacao – tastes as fine but the colour is not as pretty and clear. With an extra bit of vanilla ice.

At home and in summer I love a Mojito. However on my balcony I prefer to serve a dark Mojito. I replace the rum with a brown rum und the brown sogar with muscovado sugar. The muscovado has a distinctive almost nutty caramelly flavour that really supports the limes. For me it replaces a string quartet with a full symphonic orchestra.

MissKittenheel‘ s Mojito
1  Lime / Limette
2 twigs of mint / Stiele Minze
1–2 TL muscovado sugar / Muscovado Zucker
4 cl dark or brown rum / dunkler oder brauner Rum
Crushed Ice
4-8 cl sparkling water / Sodawasser
Quater limes and muddle with the sugar. Add mint and give it a nudge. Add crushed ice and top up with the soda. Decoration is a twig of mint plus a straw to stir.

When I go out for lowkey cocktails I quite often start with a Piña Colada followed by one or more Long Island Iced Teas. Both drinks are rather simple to make and hide it quite well if cheap liqueur is involved.

The outfit is a 1960s inspiration. Somewhere between Mad Men on vacation and my tribute to Doris Day.
Der Look ist eine Anlehnung an die 1960ger. Irgendwo zwischen Mad Men im Urlaub und einer Hommage an Doris Day.

I love minimalism. In architecture, landscape and garden design. I prefer simple lines in my own creations. But with a bit of humour. In fashion that isn’t quite me.

The blogger who marvels with her reduced style is Isabel from Dressing Outside the Box. Always an inspiration. Miss Kittenheel is mix and match. Without a doubt. So this month the French Curves challenge is a real one.

Orange isn’t one of the first colours that is associated with minimalism. That’s blacks  prerogative. The dress is probably the one with the simplest cut in my wardrobe. White is also heavily associated with minimalism. Orange and white in combination always have a strong 1960s vibe.

„Banklady“ – la parraine de mon look.
I love that look from „Banklady“!

The white sunglasses are among my favourites. The heels are classic but I am not sure if they are apart from their colour appropriate. The clutch is a bit dada and of course there are always great things inside. The banana in the back is stunningly tropical. I love it.

On the Go: Bringing back Summer -zurück in den Sommer

So, Summer is over but you still want to wear that one summer dress before it goes into storage. Pair it  with some opaque tights, a jacket, something underneath and off you go. I am pretty happy with this 60s inspired Boden dress, took it to Berlin and the Côte d’Azur.

Love hurts – at least I still have a bruise from the window crank. Window crank? Well, you don’t get central locking and electric windows in a vintage car. Way to early I got picked up last Sunday as the navigator for a friend. Once a year he takes part in a vintage car rally for the private hospital group he works for. His usual plus one wasn’t available and since I asked, I was taken along. I struggled a bit with the road book, am much, much better with maps. But we only once took a wrong turn – and that was because he followed the others.

I had a great day. Weather was perfect. It is autumn, but the leaves are still green. The sun still warms your face while your nape get the first gentle chilly strokes of the cold and dark season. His car is a dream – a 1963 Porsche convertible in Ivory. I was told it is tiny and loud. But it wasn’t. Ok, so I like the faint smell of petrol. The car got loads of compliments, but so did I. My outfit was spot on. Sadly there was no price for best in show. My driver however won a golf voucher with the putting challenge.

It was a grand day out. Brilliant weather, the backdrop (Bergisches Land) for the Helios Privatkliniken Oldtimer-Cup is beautiful, catering at the stops was great and there were so many gorgeous cars to see. Hope I can come along next year 🙂

Be my valentine!

Despite best laid plan life happens – what was meant to be my anniversary/ valentine’s day outfit will now wait for another date – literally. But it would be a shame to let this occasion go to waste. Anyway this year valentine’s day coincides with carnival AND guess what I’d rather wear and do – yep, don a costume and party. Rather than celebrate a hallmark holiday. Though as cheesy as that sounds this year it would have also been an anniversary! Ach well, enough said – you are here for the outfits.

I got this wonderful Boden dress in the January sales. It dropped from something like 270 EUR down to 70 EUR (including postage). It is brocade or jaquard and the pattern is woven not printed. I thought it would be a tribute to Jaqueline Kennedy. But I don’t channel that – I feel more like Joan Holloway of Mad Men in it. Not bad, eh?

(null)

Paired it with different tights and I think it is funny, but the bordeaux ones make the dress look a bit more reddish/ brown and with the black tights, the black base is emphazised. It really brings out my hourglass figure – though that doesn’t come across that well on the pics. The earring situation still isn’t solved to my liking. Am wearing my Grandmother’s pearls. Would prefer something more dangling. The handbag is from my other Gran and passed down from my Mum.

Not my usual lipstick – but cheap and cheerful from H+M „Audrey“ – a bit darker and slightly more bluish than MAC’s Russian Red. Still a very velvety look.

Love the richness and the many layers of the dress. Six colours and doesn’t look garish! The silly little necklace is from Claire’s usually too low hanging for my taste – but think it works with this dress – since I don’t havve a pen/ stylo-necklace like Joanie in Mad Men!
