This is my outfit for New Year’s Eve. Chic, sophisticated but still not over the top, at least not too much. It’ll be a quiet long meal, with a traditional raclette. Two good friends are coming over and we’ll talk, eat and drink. No silly games, not even drinking games. Possibly party hats if I can find them while I dig out the oldschool raclette from the late 70s.
Das ist mein Outfit für Silvester. Schick, elegant, aber nicht zu übertrieben – zumindest nicht mehr als sonst. Es wird ein ruhiger Abend, mit einem traditionellen Raclette. Zwei gute Freunde kommen vorbei und wir werden reden, essen und trinken. Lustige Spiele gibt es nicht – noch nicht mal Trinkspiele. Vielleicht finde ich noch die Partyhütchen auf der Suche nach dem altmodischen Familienraclette aus den späten 1970gern.
2016 was a tough one. I still struggle with the pertussis I caught in early August. So do yourself a favour and vaccinate yourself. I simply forgot to top up one of my vaccines by a year. This mess could have easily been avoided.
2016 war ein zähes Jahr. Ich kämpfe immer noch mit dem Keuchhusten, den ich mir im August eingefangen habe. Tut Euch einen Gefallen und lasst Euch impfen. Ich habe das einfach nur vergessen aufzufrischen. Das ganze Elend hätte ich mir sparen können.
Just to top it up I either got a stomach bug or food poisoning on boxing day. It was violent and not pretty. So I am still as week as a kitten.
Und um das für dieses Jahr noch abzurunden habe ich mir noch ein Magen-Darm-Gedöns oder eine Lebensmittelvergiftung am zweiten Weihnachtstag zugelegt. Heftig und unschön. Ich bin immer noch recht schwach auf den Beinen.
2017 will probably be not that much of a pleasure – I am politiacally active and we got two major elections coming up. One in May for the state parliament of Northrhine-Westfalia and a federal one in Sepember. Both are not going to be pretty.
2017 wird wahrscheinlich nicht so der Kracher – ich bin politisch aktiv und wir haben zwei grosse Wahlen anstehen: im May die Landtagswahl in NRW und dann die Bundestagswahl im September. Beide werden vermutlich in einer Schlammschlacht enden.
In the wake of Trump’s successful campaign a lot of dirt will be thrown from the right-populist corner. More hate will be sown. I am happy when it’s October again. I doubt I’ll like the results of the elections that much – but at least once the campaigns are over, it gets a bit more quiet again.
Im Fahrwasser von Trump’s erfolgreicher Kampagne wird auch hier aus der rechtspolulistischen Ecke mit Dreck geworfen werden. Es wird Hass und Zwietracht gesäht. Ich bin froh wenn es wieder Oktober wird. Ich gehe nicht davon aus, dass mir die Wahlergebnisse im Grossen und Ganzen gefallen werden – im Gegenteil. Aber danach wird es wieder ruhiger.
But for now I’ll put on my happy outfit and celebrate the end of a tireseome year with very dear friends.
Jetzt ist es aber erst mal Zeit ein schönes Outfit anzuziehen und das verdiente Ende eines anstrengenden Jahres mit wirklich guten Freunden zu feiern.
