Maritime Fun – Going Dutch

I wanted to do this post for a very long time – but I didn’t really have the right dress(es) for that. Back then it was supposed to be a winter thing but it didn’t feel right. When I got the blue pencil dress I knew it was meant to be.

Maritime Fun – this bag goes so well with the seaside vibes and one of my best presents ever!

Tulip Craze – and then the parents and I were on the way to the ferry to Borkum when almost there – well, in the 10 minutes we stopped there, lots of others did too. Tulip fields are not typical for this region. And we took those pics in the first half of May.

Windmills and Barges – the souvenir brooches are vintage Delft porcelain with traditional Dutch motives and I even got a matching scarf! Shown here a few years ago.

Milkywhite – the brooch and ear clip set is vintage from the 1950s or 60s and in pristine condition. Not shown is the little tea pot charm. Quite a shame actually.

Schade eigentlich.

HellBunny does Toile de Jouy with a twist. The dress is from 2015. I got it last year via Vinted.

MatchyMatchy with my Mum.
Farblich abgestimmt mit meiner Ma.

And now a little PlantPorn from the Gardens of the World in Berlin. Enjoy – it starts with irises and alliums.

Kornblumenblau – Centaurea

Gorgeous Roses – not historic ones, but they sure look like pretty old school cabbage roses.

A flurry of Geranium pratense – zauberhafter Storchenschnabel0

And finally a half-filled paeony.
Zum Abschluss eine halbgefüllte Pfingstrose.

Maritime Fun – Deauville, Crabs + Lobsters

Maritime fun is back in baby blue this year. A few years back sailor looks were a big thing for summer with the vintage repro or pin-up clothing manufacturers. That seems to have ceased. But then much of it felt more like dress-up or role play than summer wear.

Borkum – the dunes at the other end of the island.

The cheap earrings are surprisingly light weight and obviously lots of fun and go well with red lipstick.

Borkum – into the night

That look isn’t too flattering but uncomplicated.

Yes, I have that shirt in a few colours. It is awsome. The light blue is apart from the red my favourite. The peach raffia bag is new and great for summer. I presume it’ll get quite a bit of mileage. It’ll definitely come along to Berlin later this week with the office.

The vintage crab brooch is a favourite with my maritime looks. But it has only been once before with the crab skirt on this blog.

These shots were actually taken on Borkum – but my mum and I were too tired that day to go to the promenade for these pictures and we did two more outfits, so the garden where we always stay, the Villa San Remo, was once more used as a back drop.

Maritime Fun – Anker Hoch

It is finally time for a maritime look – in pastel colours and a cheerful yellow dress. Like so many other things the dress was in storage for a while and has been on this blog before for Ladies Day at the races in Krefeld.

Wedges are pretty, but sneakers and a hands-free bag are much better for a day of sightseeing.

True North – this vintage brooch reminds me of a compass rose.

Anchor High – a happy bunch of colourful anchors are on this scarf I bought last year on Borkum, a small Frisian island in the North Sea.

Exquisite China – a first time for me. Close to where I studied landscape architecture is the home of a traditional German procelain manufacturer and their museum – Fürstenberg.

No Cruise for Me – I went hiking instead and my parent took the „steamer“ a bit further down stream. However – together we went to the Weser-Skywalk. A viewing platform 80m above the river and its valley.

Vertigo – is the very good excuse for a rather crooked smile. The viewing platform is see-through and was definitely out of my comfort zone!

Definitiv ausserhalb meines Komfortbereiches!

Maritime Fun: Crabs Ahoi – ü30 Blogparade

It is the last sunday of the month and once more I join the ü30 Bloggers for a maritime challenge. Now in July I celebrated Maritime Fun on my blog but I left this look for latre summer. Usually those looks involve blue and white – possibly with a dash of red.

Red, pink and white without blue is a bit outside the box for maritime themes. The crab skirt was on this blog before – even with the same shoes. I had planned a different pair to go with the look but I hurt my pinky toe and I couldn’t even stand in those red heels anymore.

The confetti bracelet and the woven raffia hand bag with the lucite are 1950s originals. The red pearl brooch and the red polka dot cat eye sunglasses are newish.

A very cute souvenir from the north sea – a baby seal. The year before godchild no3 got a big seal from the amazing aquarium in Brest Océanopolis, the largest one in France – and seriousls worth a day out if you are in the area and a detour, if you are not.

Sea Life at the tiny and cute North Sea aquarium on Borkum.

Quite often you don’t have to travel far to enjoy some amazing sea life – locally we have a charming small zoo with an aquarium.

Maritime Fun – Prints Ahoi

This year my maritime looks coincided with going on holidays. So We shot almost all sets within 10 days on Borkum. While we were taking pics with this outfit we realized I was colour coordinated with an old fashioned bathing cart.

Matching the traditional German beach seat.

Passend zum Strandkorb,

Oooops, sunburn. Not from the beach but from waiting for the bus.

Look No2 – with a classic printed scarf. Already featured with a royal blue dotted dress on the blog with the very same top as shown above.

My new cotton mask – checks go with many things and they continue to be compulsory in Germany in many places such as public transport, shops, restaurants (until you get to the table).

Maritime Fun – Checked Jersey Dress

Maritime styles are usually accociated with stripes or sometimes dots. Apart from the obvious with (sail) boats, lighthouses, nautical knots or sea life creatures such as shells, crabs, lobster, fishies, sea urchins, etc Today you get a maritime look with a checked dress..

It is a fitted jersey dress from Marks & Spencer. A few years back I bought most of my dresses there. But then I gained some weight and discovered retro, repro and pin-up clothing for me. M+S are now producing up to a size 24 and I still like their wiggle styles.

A classic shape but a modern, lightweight material. The neopren was originally used for wet suits before it was used in fashion. Usually bags of this shape are quite heavy. This isn’t. A shoulder strap would be ace though.

Maritime Fun – Classic Breton Shirts

Last year I went to Brittany but I didn’t get those shirts there. It is tricky to get larger plus sizes in France. So I imported the blue one. I really wanted something like the red shirt you see a few pics down – but non luck at my end. The crab skirt was on this blog before and is a must have to take along to the sea side.

Super sunny day in the Finistère – at the end of the (French) world. In the back is the l’Île Vierge. Where you get two lighthouses for the price of one. According to wikipedia it is the location of the tallest stone lighthouse in Europe, and the tallest „traditional lighthouse“ in the world.

A seriously beautiful beach – I swam with my swim ray over to the little island on the left. The flood came in and getting there was actually quite an effort. When I crossed there was already much more water in between.

Lace is quite traditional for areas in northern France – though this lace is from Plauen in Germany. I bought the fake coral and pearl brooch on Borkum.

What my parents loved about the beach was the shop and garden lounge with a view to the lighthouses and the atlantic. While I was in the (cold) water and my best friend watched her toddler play in the sand, they found a comfy bench, coffee and drinks. A really chilled and inspiring place.

This year I finally found poper breton shirts in my size – in Bochum – so I bought three: red, light blue and a white one with pink stripes. You’ll see the last one before the end of the month, promise.

So this is me blending in. Wearing jeans, Trekking sandals. A proper German tourist.

Angepasst an den Insel-Look. Mit Jeans. Trekking Sandalen. Brave Touristin.

Stripes and Dots in Red and White

Streifen und Punkte in Rot und Weiss

Sometimes Miss Kittenheel goes flat. Although with the (then) achy toe the red pumps are just for show.

A 1950s souvenir brooch. From southern Germany (Chiemsee) – where seagulls are not really typical. But the writing is really small. The sea gulls are yery fitting for seaside looks.

Maritime Fun – Rainy Day

Rain and bikes isn’t really a good combination. Especially when you like to wear swing dresses. And I adore a traditional yellow fisherman’s coat. But their silhouettes don’t match.

That is one big hood!
I came across this coat from Miss Candyfloss. But it wasn’t yet available. On the day it hit their online shop in sunny yellow I kept reloading thee page in 10 second intervals at the given time. When you wear the largest size of which they usually just have a handful, you’d better be quick!

You might remember this dress from April – it is one of my favourite dresses and will hang out in town from August until mid September on my very first campaign poster.

We shot most of these pics waiting fpr the ferry to Borkum. Guess the others waiting had a bit to look at. It was a wee bit to warm for the coat. But at least the sky played along.

Light blue sunglasses – not much dor really sunny days but good in winter or for cylcing when there are a lot of tiny flies around.

Matchy-matchy with the maritime themed nvy anchor mask. You can only get a small glimpse ot my sailing boats and knots silk scarf.

And we made it to my favourite friesian island. Yep – lo and behold that is a pair of trekking sandals in my hand. They are not just a prop. I hurt (or broke) my little toe and apart from pics it was either those sandals or flip flops for me.

Matching sparkly stones on my sunnies and the happy seagull. I tis amazing – you can actually see two different pics in the old school binocular brooch.

Seagull on beach chair – one of the classic motives at the seaside. And selfie with said seagull in the back while wearing the happy seagull shirt.

Colour – coordinated details I got the scarf bracelet a few years back in the sales from H+M. The yelllow luxulite brooch has been here quite a few times. the light blue sunnies are new and no name.

I love it at the beach – even in mixed weather.

The German 30plusBloggers meet again to a blog parade – today’s theme is presents you love.

When the motto was chosen I knew instantly what I wanted to show: my blue gingham handbag. It is an excellent addition to my self chosen monthly theme Maritime Fun ,I  have worn it before with my crab skirt.

My good friend Pam gave me that handbag 2016 for Christmas. A fab bag. Perfect for summer. For me checks, tartans and ginghams are neutral patterns. Bye-bye blue garage door – today the parents will hand over the keys to our old house.

Ich bin mal gespannt was uns die anderen so zeigen!
I am looking forward to what the others will show. It will be (mostly) in German though.

Maritime Fun – Holy Crab

Welcome to part two of Maritime Fun. I bought this crab skirt in the boxing day sale. After ogling it for a long while. It is a fun and uncomplicated thing. From picnics and BBQs, shopping or trips on or off shore.

I got the crab brooch a few years ago. The life-ring set is new. I had to extend the dainty necklace. Check amazon or ebay if you could need that, too.
