Oktoberfest Craze – Heimat Kitsch

Just a quick one. it is autumn. my favorite time of year. Another post about traditional style with a twist. still waiting for my new dirndl, sigh. This is what I wore. A blouse from Boden with iconic sausage dogs, a dress from modcloth (removed the buttons),„Wilson“ a 1950s mink headband, a tartan scarf I got in the peak district and a cowhide clutch bag from Nice.

Oktoberfest Craze – Dirndl love

Still waiting for my new dirndl. Got a can of sausages in the fridge as well as sweet mustard und already three dirndls in my closet. Love them. There will be full pics of my interpretation of traditional style. With more than just a pinch of salt and quirky touches. I loved them as a kid. The „bestest“ ever was one I got from the farmers where we stayed during our holidays when I was five.

Anyway, when I started with my first dirndl as a grown up I bought a traditional blouse. Somehow that wasn’t my cup of tea. It was too low cut for my taste. So I paired the dirndl with regular shirts and blouses. So much better on me. So much more me. So here are a few pics from recent years of my bestie, my partner in crime and me.

This is from 2010. Both dirndl are vintage. Instead of an apron I wear a slim scarf from Dorothy Perkins. We both wear plastic Bambi necklaces.

2013, Oktoberfest in Xanten – a bit blurry. Got myself a new vintage dirndl. Pure wool with small embroidery. I paired it with a polka dot blouse from H&M  from 2004/2005. The necklace is vintage inspired and the fascinator from House of Fraser. A felt leaf with netting. My bestie got herself another dirndl blouse and a cute gingerbread brooch.

2014, once more Xanten. My bestie looks most fetching in that cheerful blue dirndl. Due to her petite frame her felt hat fascinator doesn’t look lost. I am wearing my purple dirndl again. Now in my style with a stripey shirt. To round off the look I wear a tartan Alice band with purple pansies. Put up a bit of weight too, since the first pic.

And now for something completely different: do you like the dachshund plates? That would be fun with pretzels, Bavarian sausages or „German sushi“ (bread roll halves spread with special raw minced pork, has to be seriously fresh though, topped with raw onion rings, seasoned with salt and pepper).

My Dirndl were purchased on eBay, the purple in 2009, the Black one 2012.

Last Rose of Summer – Provence

Sometimes we let too much time pass to see those special friends that live a bit further away. And sometimes you catch up with them in entirely different places. It was four years I didn’t meet one of my best friends in Manchester. Truly, time flies and much happened in between. The long and the short of it, there was a house with two rooms to spare a bit inland from the glorious Côte d’Azur. Flights were booked, a car hired and so I met another dear friend from Manchester who now lives in Frankfurt at the airport in Nice. A slight detour to our destination brought us to Grasse. Famous for centuries for its perfume industry. Let me put it this way, I had a soapy taste in my mouth even before we left town. It was a fun trip, too short and so good to catch up with the girls. I miss those late breakfasts on the terrace. I miss my friends and I miss summer already.

The outfit is a matching skirt an top from ASOS curve. My first off shoulder top for a very long time. The skirt is high waisted. Excellent for travel as it doesn’t crinkle and dries pretty fast. You can wear it for a night out or as smart day wear. The material is stretchy, but not flimsy and with that pattern and the rich colours it can also be worn with a cardi or a shrug in autumn. Yep, that too will be soon on this blog. However, this is the summer look. Enjoy!

On the Go: bike and bicycle dress – „der“ Fahrrad und das Fahrradkleid

There is lots to love about LindyBop: the wide skirts, the patterns. My latest of their dresses is Mathilda with a bike print. Since I commute on a more or less daily basis with my bike, I had to have that dress. Do you like it?

Shoesday: Black Bows – Schwarze Schleifchen

I love kitten heels. You might have guessed that from the name of my blog, but still… There is something to be said for shoes with a sensible heel. You can walk in them at a brisk pace. You don’t get stuck in the paving. And still you enjoy the perks of a heel. The clickidiclack, the posture, the confidence. The latter only if you can walk in them like a lady (or you average drag queen, since most I have seen could give many girls lessons). However heel height makes a few of these things easier.

My only regret is, that I don’t buy two pairs from Marks + Spencers‘. They are comfy. And smart. And still cute as hell. They were sold out even before they arrived at my place. But then again, if a smart and comfy shoe is reduced to 12.95€ that isn’t really surprising. They are pointed and high gloss. Despite being utterly comfortable they look dainty. Still the precision of the bows belies their playful intend. This is a hardworking pair of shoes that takes you from the meeting room to excessive shopping to a dinner date.

#GermanCurves – mein liebster Sommerlook

French Curves: Total Look Blanc – Ganz in Weiß

Quel challenge Par #FrenchCurves cette fois. Tout en blanc. Pas un look pour moi. J’aime bien l’escarpe au limon.

Quite a challenge by #FrenchCurves this time. All white. Not a look for me. But I love my love my lemon scarf.

Ganz in Weiß. Kein Look für mich. Aber ich liebe dieses Zitronentuch.

On the Go: Cacadoos & Parrots – Tropical Pin-up

got this awesome dress for myself as a birthday present. Took a while to take it out as the hem had to be taken in and it had to be proper summer, too. This beautiful number is Pinup Girl Clothing’s  Alfreda dress in Hawaiian parrot print.

Flamingo among Pigeons

Dressing the way I do makes me stand out. I know that. Moist days I am fine with that. Actually some time ago it even flipped. When in hiking gear, and therefore invisible, I wonder what is wrong. That day I was dressed for summer, though summer took a little break. But I haven’t lived as long as I did in the UK without having learned a few tricks – such as pretending it is summer because the calendar says it is.
So, I was the flamingo, dress for summer. In happy pastels. The pigeons were the other tourists on the German island of Rügen. The one with the white cliffs. Not as high as the white cliffs of Dover, but the only ones we got in Germany. The other tourists were not only dressed for the weather but for serious outdoorsy activities. Most of them tip to toe in trekking gear. And then there was me!

Happpy on the Deck, at Beaufort 6-7. Ok, so I took the jacket just off for the shot.

No wind on the train! I just love graphic 50s inspired patterns. And Boden did two dresses that were right up my street last summer. Got this one on ebay and the one I wore in Berlin in the sale this winter.
The vintage bracelet , the pattern of the dress and the map on the little table on the train are quite a good match. Boattrip!
After we turned around I took shelter in an aftern niche. No sun there, but shielded from the wind.
The white cliffs of Rügen.  The rented bike took a break and I some pics.
Cornflowers in a field.   Me at Prora. Five years too late, as there is a lot of refurbishment going on.
Pine woods. Could as well be in Sweden or Holland. Walking off into the sunset. (Actually I took the bike and the train back to my AirBnB in Stralsund).
