Life is good. Even most days. But on Saturday life is sweet. It is market day and every third Saturday there is also a great flea market in town. I always find something there. Almost only private sellers. This time I bought a children’s globe, a collectors cup and saucer set and a handbag in a vintage style that is large enough for the iPad. I also got fruit and veg in the little shop facing the town hall. Well, it was either the market or the flea market as I got up a bit later than planned. Before I brought my treasured home I had a lovely ice cream (spaghetti: vanilla, cream and strawberries) in the shade.

Da finde ich eigentlich immer was.

On the Go: Cacadoos & Parrots – Tropical Pin-up

got this awesome dress for myself as a birthday present. Took a while to take it out as the hem had to be taken in and it had to be proper summer, too. This beautiful number is Pinup Girl Clothing’s  Alfreda dress in Hawaiian parrot print.

I seriously love this cream. And no, this isn’t sponsored. Sure knee length panties are great in winter and especially the thermal variety beats the German phrase „arschkalt“  (effing cold). But the last thing you want to wear in summer is ANOTHER layer. Enter Vevina with that stuff. I was sceptic despite Pamperbox Betty’s glowing recomendation for the anti-friction cream.

But a massive craft fair in the blazing sun, a hot day in London and walking through a scorching Berlin as well as ordinary days parading my dresses on a daily basis through a few heat waves made me a huge fan of the little tube. You dont need much to prevent the chub rub for the day. About the size of a pea or two keeps you going. I usually have it in my handbag, but I only reapply it after serious mileage. Bye-bye grannies pants (or cropped pyjamas) under Summer dresses. The only chafing I got in the last two month was due to a pair of ripped thights. Most days in July I was out and about bare-legged under my dresses. And it never felt so good, at least when there is walking involved.

This stuff is 9,95EUR, plus postage. Worth every penny (or cent)! It claims to last you through summer. Well, that depends on where you spend it, I presume. After two months of heavy usage and walking I got about a quarter left in my tube. So I ordered some more (and one for my mum).

You’ll find Vevina on Facebook or on their website or watch the you tube video.

Flamingo among Pigeons

Dressing the way I do makes me stand out. I know that. Moist days I am fine with that. Actually some time ago it even flipped. When in hiking gear, and therefore invisible, I wonder what is wrong. That day I was dressed for summer, though summer took a little break. But I haven’t lived as long as I did in the UK without having learned a few tricks – such as pretending it is summer because the calendar says it is.
So, I was the flamingo, dress for summer. In happy pastels. The pigeons were the other tourists on the German island of Rügen. The one with the white cliffs. Not as high as the white cliffs of Dover, but the only ones we got in Germany. The other tourists were not only dressed for the weather but for serious outdoorsy activities. Most of them tip to toe in trekking gear. And then there was me!

Happpy on the Deck, at Beaufort 6-7. Ok, so I took the jacket just off for the shot.

No wind on the train! I just love graphic 50s inspired patterns. And Boden did two dresses that were right up my street last summer. Got this one on ebay and the one I wore in Berlin in the sale this winter.
The vintage bracelet , the pattern of the dress and the map on the little table on the train are quite a good match. Boattrip!
After we turned around I took shelter in an aftern niche. No sun there, but shielded from the wind.
The white cliffs of Rügen.  The rented bike took a break and I some pics.
Cornflowers in a field.   Me at Prora. Five years too late, as there is a lot of refurbishment going on.
Pine woods. Could as well be in Sweden or Holland. Walking off into the sunset. (Actually I took the bike and the train back to my AirBnB in Stralsund).

Tuesday = Shoesday – Bastilleday & Marie Antoinette

Joyeux quatorze juillet! Happy Bastilleday! Bring out your inner Marie Antoinette with these slippers. Sweet as candy and decadent. Too pretty to stay at home. Yet I don’t know yet what to pair them with. I’d love them with a stripey hostess skirt and cigarette pants. A grey tweed shift dress and pink tights. Or a gorgeous shiny pink taffeta prom dress.

Joyeux quatorze juillet!

If you like Piña Coladas – the Swimdress

Don’t get me wrong, I am all for the #fatkini, #effoffyourbeautystandards and so. Size acceptance is something I live. And yet, yesterday I fell in love with a Swimdress. So what if it is not really for serious swimming. I go to the pool occasionally with the god children, that’s usually not proper swimming. And when you go to the outdoor pool or the lido that’s not my definition of swimming either. Besides that, this thing is utterly cute. So there was me one moment saying to the lovely lady at Ulla Popken in Stralsund „just looking, I usually don’t find anything here“ and the next moment: BAM! Piña Colada swimdress. Want. To. Try. On. Now!

And I did. Love the result. By the way, I just ordered it. Delivery time two to three weeks. Better grab it in your local store. But yesterday of all days I didn’t bring my cards along. And today I’ll spent the day on the train home. But this body is ready for the beach. Even if I’ll have to wait a little for my swimdress. Until then my trusty turquoise swimsuit will do nicely!

Will. Das. Anprobieren. Jetzt!

Hab ich dann auch. Gefiel mir ausnehmend gut.

OOTD: Berlin – Beating the Summer Heat

The day before I went to the Curvy Fashion Fair I finally managed to visit the museum I wanted to see for a very, very long time. Till now long queues and/or busy timeschedules prevented me. But trust me this one is a classic and has spectacular exhibits even though two thirds of it are closed down for construction works (like the name giving altar). Which museum? The Pergamon.
Here you can parade through a babylonian procession street and admire the Ishtar gate. Utterly spectacular. Am usually very mixed if those exhibits really belong into European museums, but for the time being those exhibits are safe.
Bring a fan though if it’s hot since the majority of the museum isn’t air conditioned!
And If I might add my dress matches the colour scheme of those tiles pretty well!  And the palms nicely match too. Want to see more? Here is my Flickr folder.
